This is. about the third time I have posted this video! Copyright did NOT like me today. Unfortunately I've had to mess with audio and sound a bit to try and get around that, and may have to keep doing that going forward.

21:26 “Marty, Martus, Marteo? Something that starts with M A.” Trouble remembering Murtry’s name? Don’t worry about it. Soon you’ll be in very good company on that front. Watch for it. It’s pretty funny, actually.

4:35 he is also played by a different actor now, which caused a bit of confusion when this was first released. the original actor was one of a few people who went and got other jobs when the show was temporarily canceled during the airing of season 3, leaving them unavailable to come back to this show later

The Expanse reminded me of the sci-fi show Andromeda Ascendant created by Gene Roddenberry a very under rated show from the 90s

Congrats on getting around the copyright strike issues. I get why companies with IP exploitation rights do this - from their point of view - but I feel their point of view is narrow and missing the big picture in most cases regarding reactions and reviews.
Arjun was recast. Arjun #1, Brian George, already had another gig by the time S4 came around.
The seeds of the Bobbie plotline come from one of the side stories / novellas apart from the main 9 novels, called "Gods of risk". It goes in quite a different direction than in the show, and is based far more from nephew David's point of view. Arjun's line about the ancient cathedral builders comes from something Bobbie's father said in the novella, IIRC. Nice that they incorporated it like this into Avasarala's plotline which is, otherwise, new / not from the books.
Good hypotheses from you, as usual. We'll see how close or far away they are as things move forward.

Burn Gorman (nearly) always plays a villain, but he's just so good at it.

He's a legend in Gin Alley.

Did you notice at Avasarala's dinner function that the Martian officers who gave Bobbie the cold shoulder also blamed her for the loss of her team on Ganymede. Martians are very petty.

4:24 It is her husband, yes, but it is a recast actually. so understandably you wouldn't recognize him. the original actor had scheduling conflicts if I'm remembering correctly.
    15:35 We're loving Murtry, aren't we?

After the cancellation of the Expanse at season 3, several actors in minor roles went on to find other work, so that when it was picked up on season 4, Arjun Avasarala, Krisjen's husband was recast. One of the Earthers still on the ship at Ilus/New Terra was supposed to be Havelock, Miller's partner from S1. Jacob, Lucia's husband was meant to be Basia, from Ganymede - the father of Mei's friend Katoa who "disassembled" his nurse.
Unfortunately they weren't able to come back. Personally, I prefer the initial casting of Brian George, who brought a gentler energy, fitting for a poet and a scholar. Michael Benyaer's performance is good, but it's a lot sharper, harder.
Poor Bobbie. She, like Mars, is having to answer a lot of questions about herself. Who is she, without the spectre of war looming overhead? What is life without orders? Without a clear, defined purpose?
I think the word you wanted was "patriotic".

Besides Arjun, do you have any sources for the other characters being missing or re-cast because of actor unavailability and not just a result of the "the best idea wins" MO of the TV show writers' room? I think Havelock went off to Magnum well before S4. Lucia taking Basia's role and Naomi coming down to Ilus rather than staying in orbit the whole time work better for the story if you ask me. Of course, it could just be the writers making an excellent job of turning a problem into an advantage, but I have never heard this about Basia before. I don't quite see the squirly way he was portrayed in S2 as working in the strong role taken by Lucia in S4 with Basia's Book 4 plotline, and how Lucia interacts with Naomi, Alex and Murtry in the TV adaptation.

@@MattNolanCustom honestly I've consumed so much Expanse stuff I couldn't tell you where, or if, I've heard it.
Basia wasn't taking Lucia's place - she is still a viewpoint character, he was her *husband*.

    • @MattNolanCustom
      @MattNolanCustom 3 месяца назад +1

@@Sinewmire it's a while since I read the books, but IIRC, yes Basia was Lucia's husband, but Lucia in the show has taken Basia's role / plotlines from the book. I don't recall if Jacob has taken book Lucia's role or if he is cut from whole cloth.
