Dr WHO!!!! This movie was a true classic. Arthur C. Clarke worked on this and it is thanks to him that the space scenes are so accurate.

Hi from France, happy to discover your channel. Some suggestions of "weird" or strange movies for you, if you want : Mulohlland Drive, Blue Velvet and Lost Highway by David Lynch ; Cosmopolis and The Naked Lunch by Cronenberg ; Inception and Tenet by Chris Nolan. I'd be happy to share them with you and hear what do you think. Bonne journée ! ^^

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet but the movie was based on an Arthur C. Clarke short story, "The Sentinel". The story ends when the monolith buried on the moon becomes exposed to sunlight and sends out a signal. The idea of the story was simply that an advanced alien race had taken note of life developing on earth, and had buried the monolith on the moon. If the monolith was dug up, it would send out a signal, and the alien race would know that intelligent life had indeed developed on earth. And, the people on earth would know that contact with another life form somewhere in the galaxy had happened. And, that's it. The story ends there.

I think you picked up on more than most people who watch this movie for the first time. Your thoughts on it are all headed in the right direction. The music is supposed to stress you out the metal stick is a modern weapon The obelisk gave the apes interlect the science needs to be thought about the sets were huge. This came long before any laptops and before men landed on the moon. Your comments are very childish just. Absorb the time dedication and vast money spent on this endeavour.

American society has become increasingly cynical and pessimistic about the future over the last 30 years, and this has resulted in major changes in how the future is represented in art. As you pointed out, science fiction has become less fun and less colorful. Also, science fiction has become much more misanthropic. The ethos of modern American sci fi is: "The more things change, the more they stay the same."

At the end of Love in Paradise, you noticed open arms, but actually Calypso triggers Odysseus in all three ways. First she calls him Ody like Eurylochus, then she says she'll keep him in her heart, which is a lyric Anticlea sings in the Underworld, and then finally open arms. It really shows how on the edge Odysseus is, hearing and seeing painful memories in everything, unable to escape from them.

On special effects...good practical effects of course look better than bad CGI, but the reverse is true too. The CGI used in 'Jurassic Park' holds up. So does the CGI in films like 'The Ninth Gate'. Good effects look good.

I'm SO glad you caught the Ares/Athena music change! It's probably my favorite detail of "God Games" which is saying a lot for such a dense song. That, combined with the fact that he seemingly interrupts/invades Quick Thought really highlights his similarities and relationship with Athena and I love it so much.

Cute Chameleon! I think what's happened in Bobbie's storyline is that in this episode, she's realised what's wrong. She's lived her whole life for Mars. Mars has always been growing, building, purposeful. Their ideology has made them strong, united, driven. That's gone now. Martin was right - the discovery of the ring gates and the exoplanets have made Mars' goal pointless. Earth surface and Mars' tunnels were the only worlds capable of sustaining life, but that's not true any more. Mars is obsolete, and we're seeing that realisation through Bobbie. We've seen more of Amos' past now, and it's as dark as those slug-filled tunnels. With Marco Inaros? Looks like yeah, he faked or leaked the image of him on that ship. Drummer and Ashford gave the intel to Johnson, thinking he'd put a price on Marco's head and maybe send out some thugs... instead Johnson gave the intel to Avarasarala, to the inners. You saw what happened after that. Marco represents one of the factions of the Belters who believe that peace with the Inners is both wrong and impossible, that the current truce is morally and practically wrong, and this action seems to have proved him right.

I only noticed this because you mentioned his instrument is like a mix of Polites and Odysseus, but if you think about it, Telemachus kinda _is_ Polites, but for Athena. He's the one showing Athena what it's like to be kind and let joy in. Odysseus started her on that path, but Telemachus is the one who's really given her that chance to see for herself. And _god damn,_ the second half of Love in Paradise is _intense._ I've been watching a bunch of reactions to the saga, and every time I hear his cries, it puts me past the verge of tears. It's _heartbreaking_ to hear him so broken- Jorge's delivery just sounds so authentically defeated, and it kills me.

About the angle the General took on the ship that blew up, I feel like they are forgetting that they were trying to choose an option where not all souls on the ship was lost, but just capturing Marco. Instead Avasarala sits there and get chastised for playing with human lives where that easily could have been turned on its head with a line like "The other option was to simply blow the ship up" 9:51 Interesting observation! you called it! 11:50 17:38 I think it's supposed to be flat, there is no atmosfear to diffuse the light.

As to science fiction in cinema being "more drab" today than in previous decades, part of that is that the vision at the time was one of great hope for expanded vistas for exploration. Over time, the memes for science fiction have reflected a more jaundiced mentality, a more grungy perspective on the future. Part of this is a collective mentality of people wondering why "the future" isn't here yet. We don't have flying cars, we don't have a moon or Mars colony, we aren't going to the stars - it's all something of a collective disappointment, after being told for a couple of generations that the "future" was going to be fantastic, and reality not being able to capitalize on the vision anywhere near as rapidly as it was conceptualized.

You commented on the lighting in space being flat. That's actually correct. Light diffusion happens because of scatter as photons hit air molecules and bounce around. Not many air molecules to bounce off of in space, so the line between light and shadow is extremely sharp.

I don't know if I'm the only one who thinks this, so I'm going to ask, does anyone else kind of wish Jorge would have done a full saga for God games? As in like every song is her trying to convince one of them (that probably wouldn't work considering that his normal limit is five at the most) don't get me wrong I don't mind that some of them were easy to get through because it was supposed to be like a video game, where some of the levels are easier to get through than others, but I do kind of wish each of these voice actors was given time to work (actually I wouldn't really change anything about Aphrodite and Aries, I'm just a little sad we didn't get to hear more from Apollo and Hephaestus)

While I would love more from the gods (especially hephestus I want a whole song!) I don't think the pacing would have worked. Cos the point of that scene isn't Athena battling her way through convincing the olympians--it's showing that's she's willing to sacrfice and fight to free odysseus. As much as I want to hear more from the gods, spending too much time on it would have thrown off the pacing of the story

One thing I love about Gigi's animation of love in Paradise, is the fact that that awkward pause sees Calypso with a derp face for 3 seconds before there's a flash of a tear on her eye, as if she is thinking to herself "dang it why can't someone ever wash up on my Island who's hunky, emotionally available AND single, oh well guess I better start trying to entice him while I can"

I just love the introduction to the suitors, because the chorus that they sing for their introduction is one that Odysseus sang in a cut song, it was in reference to how he was courting Penelope and it was very wholesome, but now it's flipped on its head as if they're mocking him, and it's very sinister.

from what i hear (I'm not confident with music theory but I've done a fair share of concert band in school) with the part in love in paradise of "I'm not your man" the lyrics call back to circe with "i'm just a man" and the first few notes are simillar to those notes but also I can hear the movment of the notes being the same as the 4 note penelope motif however with different notes (and probably a different key) again this is from someone who has done no formal music theory and just from being a musical theatre nerd and doing concert band/music for middle school and highschool

Given ive seen some other reactions to the visuals and this video wasnt blocked, i think it would be okay in the future. Also I actually really like just listening to the music for the first time through, so I can get my own image of whats happening and just focus on the sound. If I react to the last two sagas I shall consider the visuals, maybe as a second reaction!

This film came out in 1968. It was groundbreaking in many ways. Hippies went to it stoned for the "light show," which was considered quite fantastic (imagine seeing it on a big screen). There is a story. Stanley Kubrick wanted the audience to think.
