I love Captain K. A gay man having to not only hide who he is, but actively work for the very people who would kill him if they knew is a truly tragic tale. The fact that his last act on earth was saving the life of a child just hits me.

@helifanodobezanozi7689 the pink triangle on his uniform as that was put on gay nazis when he is fighting towards the end ( he wore it proudly) also his partner is Freddie Finkle. Jojo's mother knew which is why he says she was actually a good person. I thought most people picked up on Freddie and Captain k's body language with each other with them being v close to kissing on a couple of occasions but then realising where they were in the office.

Yeah , I’m surprised too people don’t pick up on the subtle gestures between the two. Freddie also kinda appears feminine? I guess like the swimming pool scene. It’s also not common for an officer and his orderly to be so close and goofy , so that gives it away too . Captain k too I’d say purposely got injured too. A eye injury is more believable than a foot or leg where it cause suspicion if it was deliberate.
He also didn’t believe in the Reich either with his monotone voice at the start and how subtly glad he was the war is ending. “Not much Hope for us.” Which doubling down the moral would not be acceptable. He would of also seen and heard about the night of the long knives and paragraph 175. It’s not the greatest idea to join the n-zis, but it’s also smart in another way. To disguise. There’s a documentary and one part a German gay man did the same thing. As the war went on, there was much less young men his age around and mainly women taking over jobs. So he joined the Wehrmacht, not for the ideology or harming anybody , but for the men

There's so many good little things in it. I'm not sure you picked up on it but the Captain was gay and obviously had a secret affair with that guy(don't remember his name) lol. Hitler and Nazis are sensitive topics in America, not as bad as in Germany, but still a problem. If you consider that, you will see that Taika Waititi did an AMAZING job in his acting and directing, but especially in the writing, to walk this tight rope between comedy and brutality. I've watched this movie a few times, and also tons of reactions. Being European, I think you have a better historical perspective than most Americans since we rarely study history, and definitely not European history (all to our own detriment). I think that view might have given you a little more of a standoff-ish experience of the movie. That's fine, but you might think about it more from how we think of it here. My only criticism of your video is that I think you tried to make it too short, so some of your editing is a bit rough. This is not a general criticism of your work. "Up!" is some of your finest work (IMHO)! I've watched THAT video several times!! :))

I'm not a big fan of this movie. I'm Jewish, & it takes real horrific events & makes them cartoonish. I understand that it's supposed to be reality from the perspective of a 10-year old, but even a 10-year old back then wouldn't be that stupid. Perhaps these days they are.
Some good lines, some good scenes. Scarlett Johansson is the best part of the movie.
My favorite line: "We're like you, only human."
    Amen.

15:34 I believe Hitler was a fan of Karl May - a German Western writer - The Apache Winnetou, Old Shatterhand and whatnot.

This movie is utterly brilliant. Taika Waititi's Hitler performance was perfect. He played him as a ridiculous caricature so no one would be able to think of him as anything other than ridiculous. They filmed in Prague (I think I remember this.) A funny, horrifying, hopeful and sad look at war through the eyes of a child.

This is one of the odder reactions to this movie I've seen. Most reactors display more cringe at the Nazi stuff, especially the light touch Waititi uses on the subject matter. Might be cultural, but this isnt the first eastern European reaction ive seen.

The fascists started the youth program in the early 20's and is a large contributor to their rise. Giving young people a sense of belonging and community is an effective way to mold opinions and give the fascist party a solid voting plurality. It feels highly insidious to mislead impressionable youth into believing such hateful ideologies.
