Thank you !! Yeah they are very good rods exactly what you would expect from Shimano at that price point. I picked mine up on special from $299 to $229 which was good value.
New rod looks like a nice piece of equipment mate. Water colour and clouds came out really well on the camera too. Looked like beautiful conditions out there.
Thanks Darren, yeah it was tough going out there at first. The water was very murky from all the recent rain and floods so the squid didn't want to play. The incoming tide was when the pinkies fired up. The rod feels really nice, great for this light inshore stuff with soft plastics.
Great vid, always enjoy your video. The new combo is looking great. keen to get one for me. That spot is really good to test the gear, I was there on my kayak on the long weekend, my mate caught rock cods as well. And I caught an odd red mullet on soft plastic, which is a bit unussual.
Thanks 👍 Andre. The new combo is pretty good and versatile. Exactly what you would expect from Shimano at that price point. Yeah I agree that spot is excellent for product testing, the only downside is you catch many small fish with the bigger ones very far and few between. But its a great spot in winter when the fishing is tough. That whole area is reef and I too have caught a few red mullet and also many bright leatherjackets which are always fun and welcome bycatch. Thanks for watching and commenting. Hope to see ya out there. I've always struggled to find decent parking and launching spot there with the kayak so ill have to have a closer look at that.
another great vlog old mate . bloody lock down made me not cashed up so ill be in touch soon about that snapper rod and rig ! if you still have it . keep them coming mate ...
Thanks Robert. Yeah lockdown has been really tough for many. I was prob a little naughty and did some online retail therapy to stay occupied. Most of the rods have been snapped up already, But I still have that snapper combo available.
Hey Alan, i'm thinking of buying the Shimano Zodias 270L model to fish with soft plastics. I am just here to ask if it can handle fish species like Flathead and Australian Salmon? Also, would this rod be able to cast soft plastics a good distance off of places like the Wyndham Harbour rock wall or the rock wall at Werribee south?
Hey mate. I'm thinking of buying a zodias. Currently looking at the 270L and the 268ML. I am mainly going to be soft plastics fishing in ppb for pinkies, some snapper and flathead. Because the L model has a lower cast weight on paper it seems more versatile but I was wondering if it could handle a decent model of a snapper or would I need the ML model for that. Can the ML model still cast light lures?
Nice sesh mate. It's funny how some people like or dislike certain fish eh. I myself am not keen on eating any Wrasse. I know plenty of them are top shelf but something about them just turns me off. Nice rod BTW. Cheers mate.
Yeah 100% I find it fascinating seeing how different peoples opinions are. I also get people sending me recipes for eels, and cod and all sorts of stuff which to is fascinating. The majority of time I do catch and release.
@@fishingmad Keep as many as the law allows mate. It's no one elses business what you keep and eat. These so called men who have no hunt and gather genes left in their body, who like to get around and tell others what they should or shouldn't do, make me sick to the stomach. They can all go and take a long walk off a short pier I reckon. cheers.
I'm wondering what model to get. I was think the 270L or the 270ML and can't decide between them. I am based usually in melbourne or in cairns. I need a rod that can handle small gts up north but still be sensitive enough for bream down south. If none of these models are fit for this role can you recommend some?
Unfortunately its so difficult to have that one rod that covers multiple species the reality is the L would be great for bream and the ML and M good for small GTs. I have lots of different species and technique specific outfits tuned for indervidial species
@@fishingmad Yes that is ok. In a bit I won't really be targeting small GTs just wanted an option that would be good for all round plastics and lure fishing in melbourne and one that can handle small gts. What model do you recomment for what you are doing now in the bay for pinkies and flatties?
Just a question I have never launched at Werribee south boat ramp as yet I have a 5m standard boat anything I have to look out for tides or winds is there a lot of parking thanks in advance
My boat is only 4.2 meters so you will be fine. That part of PPB isnt tidal so small boats have no issues. Parking is generally fine just gets busy during peak snapper time.
@@fishingmad thanks mate, really appreciate it. I’ve just ordered the exact same rod as this video. If I can ask your advice, I have a Vanford 1000 and a 3000 compact, what would be better suited? I feel like the 2500 is probably the sweet spot?
I have the zodias baitcaster rods for barramundi fishing...the only thing I find uncomfortable is the hand grip the horn where your thumb joint presses against especially on the 6'6 model. The longer xtra heavy is a little better. I haven't tried their spin series.
@@fishingmad ah OK haven't had a chance to try t-curve...one on the most comfortable rods grip set up is in the daiwa tatula range....cork and a raised spiral pattern in the neoprene section.

Really nice rod, butt just a bit short for some us here in new Zealand. Hard to hold a teally big fish with just your wrist when you're getting on a bit. Im amazed to see you drop the anchor rather than drift as we do here.
Hi Joe, great feedback. What longer rod brands and model have you been using?. I have some bigger/longer rods for bigger fish. I will mainly be using the Zodias for light inshore fishing and freshwater fishing so it works well for that. Also good pickup 99% of the time we just drift on this occasion there were a few boats around and we found a half decent school sitting on the reef so we decided to anchor.
@@fishingmad at the cheaper end the abu Garcia 4 to 8 kgs is a nice rod. Penn are making some really nice rods. Probably the best i have tried is the daiwa td zero i think 3 to 6 kg. A silver one. None of them have a better action than what you are using just a butt about 4 to 5 inches longer. So when you get a 50 cm fish you can tuck it under your elbow. And with a stonker up under your arm. I just can't hold a 60cm 10 lber with just my wrist, lol too old.
All very good suggestions, thanks for sharing. I was so close to buying the TD Zero, its a beautiful looking rod. Very fast action and longer too. I ended up picking up the Zodias as it was on a good sale price. I agree the longer length sure does help with the bigger fish. I also have a shimano revolution which is 7 foot 4 and good for targeting bigger fish
Thanks Jared, yeah its a pretty awesome outfit. i orignally bought it as a goto freshwater combo for targeting reddies and trout with slightly heavier lures like spoons and vibes, but its very versatile and just as good inshore for the pinkies, flathead and squid. I ended up buying it online as i got some gift vouchers for my birthday, plus they had a sale which dropped the price from $299 to $220 which is pretty good.
Yeah very good. I was looking at it for some time. I was just about to buy a Daiwa TD Zero than i saw it was on special so I couldn't resist at that price.

Terrific value for money, there are better rods out there but these are one of the best bang for buck rods easily.
@@fishingmad do you reckon it's a good budget alternative to rods like the zodias and older tcurves?

what version of the zodias should i use for bream fishing?
The UL version for bream. Which would be equivalent to a 1-3 kilo rod
Hey mate how would you compare this to shimano anarchy rods?
Is this spot around Williamstown Swimming & Life Saving Club?
If I got a ultra light zodiac, can i use it for a 50cm pinky? Or i will need something heavier ?
The UL and L versions are more targeted for bream, but you could still catch a 50cm pinky with them,
Anyone know if the 270M can handle light/regular mangrove jack fishing
Ahhh man I just can’t decide over wheather to get the Zodias or the Diawa td black…
The TD Blacks are also very nice and prob a tad more finesse then the Zodias. The TD Commanders are also very good too.
I have the daiwa td black scratchy paired with the shimano vanford 2500HG, perfect combo in my opinion and cheaper rod compared to the zodias….
