Hurricane IDALIA! Marina/Boat Prep in Islamorada (We got lucky)

- In this episode we prepare the boats and Bud n' Mary's Marina for Hurricane Idalia. The forecast had it staying pretty far west of Islamorada, but we still had to take some safety precautions. We wound up experiencing a couple of the far bands with 40-50 knots with a few estimated gusts at 60 knots. Fortunately all the boats and marina did well, just some very minor damage. North Central Florida took the worst hit of the storm and we hope they and everyone else that was affected can rebuild in time.

Anytime that you sustain no damage it's a good day. Enjoyed the video footage.
Nick!! Sooo grateful that you and your 3 lovely girls are all OK after Idalia!! What exhausting work for you as you prepare for these storms. We have followed you since the very beginning of your blogs and yet are still amazed, and concerned, by your tireless efforts.
It’s high time to reward yourself with that 28’ Freeman you admired at the Boat Show!! BTW, Sarah is one amazing artist. Her “scrimshaw” creations are gorgeous!
We are praying for the victims of Idalia. Please stay in touch with all of your physicians after all of this stress and physical exertion.
Serena, M.D.
I love the part where nicks trolling the fast and furious subaru
Glad y’all were safe!
That would be good marketing idea!!
I’m old enough to remember when every day started with footage of you filling your yeti water jug and making oatmeal 😂
Hahaha! The old Instagram stories 👊🏻
The skies are so ominous and mesmerizing. So cool yet frightening and, you help but want to be in it. So cool. Thankful for minor damage.
Coming to bud and Mary’s during Easter week ,time share at MM 75 cant wait,I love that place
Cool, we’ll see you then!
Glad everything is ok. Good job getting ready for that
Thanks 👍🏻, we were spared here
In Marco----just hi water and wind---dodged a bullet too!!!! I guess this is the price we pay for living in PARADISE!!!!!!! Rock ON!!!!
We took this one for you Nick. Ga has your back.
I'm glad everyone is OK! I live 50 miles from cedar key that's one of my favorite fishing destinations , and I feel sorry for the people and their livelihoods there. I grew up in Bronson, which is 35 miles from Cedar Key. I've been fishing there for almost 44 years, and I've never seen anything like what I saw Wednesday morning! God bless those coatal towns
Nick, that cooler had Bean's favorite cologne in it.... Eau de Poissons Mort (French for dead fish) 🤣
Thanks for the update. God bless to you and all in the path. Glad the effects were minimal on this one.
Thanks for sharing!!!
Hi Stanz Fam!!! Lots of work & it's awesome to see y'all safe out there. Cheers!!! 😍🇺🇲🖤🍻🍺
Nick, as fast as you talk, you should read disclaimers for radio commercials or be an auctioneer! Too fast for my South Georgia mind to keep up with.
Glad you are all OK, looks like a busted hinge, upturned bin and some sail shades are part of tropical life, take care and thank you for the updates
Glad you guys are all ok! Also, I second learning to tie a bowline knot! I don’t own a boat, but since I learned I use it all the time. Knot tying is very under appreciated.
Try your new blue wave cleaner on that foul cooler
Glad you guys are ok through the storm ♥️🎣🙏🏻
i got a 105 inch sailfish from grey taxidermy last year on a charter out of fort laudy.
I didn't know the hurricane went so far south? I'm glad your dock survived pretty well! Feel bad for those people around Cedar Key. They got hit pretty bad. Hopefully, the pretty blue skies will be back shortly!
It didn't go that far south. Cedar Key got hit hard, and Tampa Bay (where we are from got a lot of flooding)
It started south and moved north so the entire west coast of FL felt it including the keys.
Glad y'all stayed safe
The cooler reminds me of the time someone forgot to remove the bait bucket from the trunk of my car. Sold the car and bought a pick up truck! 😂
Really enjoyed that video thanks as far as maggots back in the 80s when I did insurance work we went to house 3 weeks after fire opened refrigerator door pack of ground beef covered in maggots. Does ground beef come with them it was really bad I could smell them all over when you opened cooler thanks again
Yea Boy, I’m happy you are Safe!
Happy to see you guys missed the bullet for sure. You’re right about one thing. You need to slow down when you talk. We can’t keep up. We don’t want to miss anything you say but are having a really hard time following. Love you and Sara and the girls.
Thank goodness 🙏, all good up here in NSB also. Prayer to big bend, but so grateful 🙏
Thank God you are all ok
Well good thing we dodge another storm.
But it ain't over yet.
After your Alaska video I want a Nick Styx rod.
I email you all asking when are you getting new inventory.
So cool.

Thanks for watching. Hoping to have more nicksticks in stock by the end of the month
Hope all went well for you and yours ole son. Just finished watching Joe VT and he was repping and gave your Stanz sword rod a shout out. His next video he will be picking up his best Swordfish to date or so he said. Till next time take care be safe and God bless. ✌
Glad y’all got spared, my family was under water in Clearwater.
Sorry to hear that! Hope recovery and rebuilding goes as smooth as possible
Any videos in the future on how to secure a boat when it’s on a boat lift?
“If you can’t tie a knot tie a lot” lmao
Hope you guys are doing good.
I'm in Roswell GA north of Atlanta and the rain the wind and the Thunder and lightning the last two nights the Thunder has been shaking the house and the lake rose above my dock and up into the yard. But it's all back down in the lake we have an automatic dam at the one end of it but by the time it turns on when storms like this it just floods the yard but there's a sewer pipe in the yard before it gets to the house so I'm we're not worried stay safe down there I guess the seasons just starting right I remember it well.$800👍✌✌🎅🚌🌻
Glad you're safe Stan
Yea we escaped this one thank God
Get ready in a week and a half going to get sporty
You’ve forgotten more than I’ll ever know, but why not drop fenders over dock side?
Why didn't you trailer the bay boat?
Are you putting 425’s on the Broad Minded
👍
Captain nick I smelled it through the phone I've been there
hey nick does that marina allow liveaboards and how much for a slip i dont need electric
We don’t have any big slips or live aboard slips available. A few short term transient slips for center consoles 25-39’
Nick, why not just haul the boat out and do a engine oil change at the same time!
My friends 37 footer with twin 425’s we can change the gear lube while the boat is in the water, so we don’t have to haul out anymore to do it. We hauled the bayboat out the week before for an oil change, but definitely wouldn’t have been a bad idea
There are so many videos on YT how to tie off on cleats and pilings. Do you have a video?
I don’t have a specific one
NickStick spinning Rod when?
Hopefully soon, waiting on manufacturer
Put the engines down for the day will get more clearance
Only bad thing is when the low tide comes they hit bottom when they are down
I would have just lowered the motors . That would have provided at least two feet of additional clearance.
The hit the bottom on a low tide as it is, plus put some waves in there it could be even worse
Dude
Can I get a pin Stanzfam? itll make my day.
ill give you 5$ lol
Would love a house in Islamarada we just missed yall 2 years ago we saw yall coming in and we were leaving 😢😢
Who pics coconuts when storms are coming
