    As a baby, our son would put his finger in his eye to keep from falling asleep. After one long spell of trying to rock him to sleep on a porch swing he finally dozed off. Seizing the moment, my wife stood up and stepped directly on a wasp....in bare feet....she never made a sound until after she had brought him inside and put him down in the crib. She then walked slowly back outside and softly screamed.

    My twin newborns would fall asleep being rocked, but if you put them down, they'd always wake up. We figured out the best way to put them down was by rocking them in their carseats. But they liked different speeds. I would hold both car seats at once and swing back and forth at one speed and the other at double speed.
    The first night home from the hospital we had so much trouble finding a way they would sleep. We went completely insane. By morning, we had one of them asleep in an empty drawer we had put on the bed. I don't really remember how that happened.

      In an empty drawer on the bed!!! 😂😂😂😂 I was a postpartum nurse for 10 years before finally having two kids of my own, and I have to say that pretty much sums up the lengths you’re willing to go to in order to get one newborn to sleep sometimes, let alone two! I’m literally still laughing out loud imagining the sort of delirious and desperate thinking that prompted you to dump out a drawer to put the baby in as a last resort 😂😂. I can just imagine the looks of befuddlement you gave each other when the fog cleared, trying to figure out who came up with that idea! 😂😂😂 Thanks to both you and Julie for starting my day with so many lols 😊😂😂

      @@TomassHoleDepends on a baby. I had two perfectly nice, sleeping in the car and out of the car babies and one that would just scream and never sleep. The other one wakes up as soon ad the engine goes off. One I had to hold to sleep and she would cuddle all the time. The other couldn't go to sleep when I was touching her. I had to leave her alone to settle and get calm. Every baby is just different.
      The one I get now just wakes up if you wake her by accident thinking she is just super rested and happy but be tired again after 15 minutes and get to sleep again. Super happy baby.

    As a parent of three, I can confidently say that this is definitely how it is with the first baby. Then you just sort of figure out that babies learn to sleep in whatever environment is normal. Pretty soon you’ll just put the baby down at nap time and start vacuuming. And the little blighter will fall asleep.
    However, if your house is kept like a library, your little will only sleep through dead silence. If it’s full of other toddlers throwing toys at their sister and pretending the couch is an Olympic trampoline while yodeling, then they’ll sleep through that. The things they can sleep through still amazes me. As does the things that wake them….

    My toddler was a light sleeper and I was a single parent. It was 10pm and I was removing the ash from my stove before bed, I slipped and dropped the hot ashpan on my leg. The burn was the size of 2 playing cards, was full of ash and had melted skin off. But there was no was I was waking that baby to go to the hospital. I took pain killers, cleaned it and tried to sleep. Next morning I went to work, finished at lunchtime and bowed to peer pressure and went to A&E. I had a severe burn and the nurse told me off for waiting so long but even she sympathised with not waking the baby!

  • @beliasphyre3497

    With a injury that is an object penetrating like that, the best option is to stabilize the object so it can't wiggle around and then get to the ER as soon as possible. Do this by wrapping gauze gently at first, then firmer and firmer. If the object is unable to be taken with you to the ER, like you impaled yourself on a fence, call the paramedics, or a good welder/carpenter to cut the object so it can be transported. Do not remove the object from the body, this can cause more damage and possibly a bleed out. The object is providing the pressure to keep you from bleeding out. In this case of an upper limb penetrated, once the object is stabilized, secure the arm to the chest/stomach with a bandage or rope to further stabilize the injury.
    Once you get to the ER, they will assess the best way to cut away the excess object so pulling it out is short and less damaging to the tissue. They will also be ready to address the bleeding that will follow, and even most likely have a surgeon on hand to repair some of the damage to the body. And plenty of pain killers/antibiotics.

    • @beliasphyre3497
      @beliasphyre3497 6 месяцев назад +15

      After the injury is stabilized, you can sit and rest quietly until the baby wakes in an hour or two (hopefully more). Keep the injury elevated above the level of the heart, and watch for bleed through of the bandage. If it bleeds through, do not remove and change the bandage, just add more. Removing the bandage will tear away what scab has formed and cause more bleeding. If there has been head trauma, stay awake.

    • @ecocentriclife
      @ecocentriclife 6 месяцев назад +5

      Great advice! However, I believe the idea that we must stay awake after a head trauma is considered more myth than medical advice these days.
      I would also add, do not relocate an elbow in the field! If it is a shoulder, and you have a history of dislocating it, massaging it back into place may work and be the gentlest method.

    • @beliasphyre3497
      @beliasphyre3497 6 месяцев назад +7

      Your right about head trauma, it's a myth that staying awake helps.
      It's more diagnostic to stay awake. If the injured person cannot maintain consciousness, you need to get them medical attention NOW, all else can wait.
      I agree with dislocation. Dislocation needs to be relocated by someone trained. Usually that means a medical professional, but if it keeps happening, you usually learn how to relocate it yourself.

    Tip for new parents IF both of you can take parental leave: Have the baby in a separate room, and divide the night between you. Whoever goes to sleep earlier pushes their sleep schedule a bit earlier. Whoever goes to sleep later pushes their schedule later. Parent A goes to sleep and gets a solid 6-7 hours sleep, while Parent B handles all baby soothing/care. Then they swap, and Parent B gets their decent chunk of sleep. My shift was 2200-0500 (10-5), then sleep 0500-1200 (5-noon). Its still hugely exhausting and stressful, but we felt healthier.

    This was funny!! My son is 14 now, but he was extremely colicky. I’d nurse him to sleep and lie down with him. As soon as he looked asleep, I’d try to sneak away and he FELT me leaving!! He’d wake up and start screaming again. As a new mom and a small business owner I had so much I wanted to accomplish!! I didn’t (couldn’t) want to sleep next to him for 2 hours 3-4 times a day. He demanded I stay with him and hold him, ha! Now he’s older and we survived that stage! Wish I could go back to the snuggles, ha. Good luck to you!!! On another note, when he was 5, I accidentally stepped down from my bed where I was knitting and I quickly and absentmindedly stepped down SUPER QUICK and HARD onto my jar of double pointed knitting needles. It was full force!!! I couldn’t watch this part of your skit fully because this actually happened to ME!! Oh my, the knitting needle sticking out of an appendage was all too real! It was about an INCH into my foot, in the middle. I was in shock! I screamed m, but they couldn’t hear me in the house with a movie on. I HAD to YANK IT OUT MYSELF. I didn’t go to the ER because doctors scare me, but I treated it myself. I couldn’t walk on it for days. I had to crawl up and down the steps and around the house and stand on one foot. I missed work for a week. It was awful and painful. It was a number 2 thin and sharp needle from the 1930’s from my aunt. Luckily, it didn’t get infected. What could I do with my recovery time, but more knitting in bed?!! I never kept my needles in the jar by my bed ever again!! Best to you with the babe and know that this too shall pass! Ha!

    There are four kids in my family (I'm number 3). The first baby had horrible ear infections and couldn't sleep more than a couple hours at a time and needed to have her adenoids out. But back then (37 yrs ago) they wouldn't do the surgery until the child was 2 years old. So, my mom didn't sleep for two straight years until the surgery. The problem is that the second baby was born a week before the first's second birthday, and guess what that new baby had problems with? Adenoids. Two more sleepless years and a month after his second birthday I was born with, yet again, more adenoid problems. My mom is a literal superhero for being that crazy sleep deprived for six years straight! I don't know that I could love anything enough to not sleep for six years let alone continue to not just function, but to be the best mom ever! (The last baby was five years later and didn't have the same issue) The point is that good parents can change the world and handle the most insane stuff!

    Everything that happened in this video is 100% true. The dad jean jingle, suppressed screams from injuries, the baby shitting themself awake... We live in an old house with creaky wooden floors too so add that to the list of horrors!

    4 kids. Youngest is 18. This is giving me nightmare flashbacks.
    When all else failed, my job was to put them in the car and go for a 30-60 minute ride. And gently get them out of the car and into a crib without waking them. 60% of the time it worked every time. What really worked, though was that my wife got to sleep for a while.

    I laughed so hard at the bed kick. This actually happened to me. Sleeping when my daughter opened the door and jumped in our bed, leaving bedroom door open. Too tired, yet bothered by the open door, I walked and closed it quickly, turned around and tripped by the laptop bag my wife decided to leave next the door, and my foot hit the edge of the bed. I cursed and went to bed. My daughter looked up and said "Dad... you said a bad word!".

    We found the secret was to make normal noises. The kid would get used to noise and sleep through it. Even vacuuming around him wouldn't wake him up. The cats made scarce but he didn't even hear it.
