Guiding Light was outstanding soap opera with an amazing,rich history and it gave us some of the best and most memorable characters in daytime!It will never be forgotten

4:00 and beyond were all awful with the Only Love being the worst. A theme song to a show is iconic and constant change for the sake of change is rarely good. Take a them and slightly tweak it over time. For me, 88 to 92 were the best intros and theme songs. I’d have been happy with waiter of these sticking and slightly changing over time. Y and R has always had the same iconic Nadia’s Theme. GL constantly replacing themes just shows the solid identity they seemed to have lost over the last decade of the show. I watched in Junior High from 88-91 and it was such a phenomenal show. Miss it.
I was sorry to see it cancelled. However, to be completely honest, the show was in horrific shape the last few years it was on. In hindsight, I think it would have been a better decision for the show have voluntarily left the air than continue on a reduced budget that required the "realistic" outdoor filming in New Jersey. I felt bad for the show. It looked so cheap that it was embarrassing. It would not surprise me if the production budget in the final two years barely covered covered one flashlight for lighting; 2 sticks of gum for the actors in a scene and a couple of college interns filming the scene with a handheld camera bought at Wal Mart.
Great video! I watched GL from 1976-2009.I know that I'm in the minority,but my favorite opening is the "Disco" opening from 1981 and 1982.Those were my favorite years of GL as well.

I grew up with Hold On To Love, but my favorites, after watching episodes here on YT, are La Lumiere (the first opening in this video) and My Guiding Light ('83-'85 version). I like that very last bit, too, the was featured in the finale. The one featured every opening title card.

Personally, I think GL and several of the other shows (AMC, OLTL and GH) changed their theme song WAY too often. The opening song really should be like a trademark for the show. Even if the visual opening is changed, the theme song (or an updated version thereof) remains the same. Days of Our Lives, Y&R and B&B have followed that approach --- using the same song (with some minor modifications) for their entire existence and even staying with a similar opening (with some modifications) over the years. GL was chaotic with this.
GH had Faces of the Heart from April 1, 1993 to August 27, 2004, while AMC had the white opening from 1995 to 2002, and Scrapbook from October 2002 to May 2004. The Scrapbook with the 2002 remix of the 90 theme, was short-lived at this point!
I totally agree, for some reason changing the theme too frequently loses the identity of the show. This might be minor, but because of this, it might have affected the ratings. If you look what GL has become in its final months, it became a totally unrecognizable show.
Eugene, great point: I agree 100% - I thought the same even when I was little, LOL. I'd go so far as to say GL over-hauled it's theme + titles sequence the most frequently of any daytime soap.

The 1983 version always brings tears to my eyes but my favorite was the one that debuted in 1991. My emotions are still the same 30 years later. Wow!

The True Light opening (after the one with Joan Collins in it) should have been a remake of My Guiding Light.
