It should have gone to Paramount Plus but I don’t believe that streaming service existed in September ‘09 when GL finished its historic 70 year run on Radio and TV
Guiding Light was the 4th highest ranked soap out of 13 this season, per the SON Ratings archive. If only they kept those ratings, I wish GL were still around 😢
I grew up watching Guiding Light with Beth and Lujack and later with Nia Long as one of the first black teenagers on there. I will always reminisce when I hear this particular theme song. CLASSIC!
I think this was Guiding Light's best all-time theme in my opinion and maybe the best theme in US daytime soap history. It had all of the ingredients of what makes a great soap theme. In fact, I think it was too big for daytime soaps, it could've easily passed as a primetime soap as it had more of a primetime soap vibe to it. #2 theme for GL to me was the disco theme they used before this one as that one was epic and fun at the same time.
This was really my favorite time of GL. They were actually number 1 a few times that summer. The Bauers, The Lewis’s, The Reardon’s(❤), The Spaulding’s, The Chamberlin’s, The Shayne’s, Fletcher and Claire. Lujack and Beth. The best. ❤️
It really should be brought to Paramount+ since it is a CBS streaming service and GL was a CBS soap. Instead of cancelling GL, they should have moved it to Paramount+ streaming service like what NBC did to Days of Our Lives when it moved from broadcast tv to Peacock streaming service.
@@carlblandoHolly didn’t come back to guiding light until 1988. And Michael Zaslow who played Roger was playing David Renaldi on One Life To Live in 1984. He would return to play Roger on GL in early ‘89
This theme to the Guiding Light was indeed my most favorite of all themes from the soap. I miss the show terribly😭!
I still miss all my Springfield friends. I started watching in 1982 right up to the end. This is my favorite theme.
I still love this theme it was the very best they never should have changed it
I would love to see a big movie reboot of Guiding light and As The World Turns that would be awesome
Bring GL and ATWT to Paramount Plus like what NBC did with DOOL (moved it to Peacock 🦚 in September ‘22)
Thanks for posting this. It brings back good memories from when I was a kid. I remember the music and announcer’s voice well.
I will forever miss the Guiding Light!
Me too! I can’t even begin to say how badly I miss my show. 💔
Yes, bring Guiding Light back!!!

@@jamieburroughs427 You mean it's 72 year run.
Mom watched this everyday after work with a cup of tea ☕️ it was her hour to rest before we got home from school/ work then she got me hooked
Loved seeing Mary Kay Adams in the intro.

I'm guessing top 3 were GH, ATWT, and Y&R.
@@W81Researcher GH, AMC, YR and then GL.
@@mrjeromejackson88 how did ATWT fall behind GL? That show was more organized in the 80s.
@@W81Researcher Before that year, GL could even top YR. Never again after the 80s.
Memories….

That's the one making me kinda crying not uncontrollably

Of all the different variations of "My Guiding Light," this one eas the best.
This (original) variation lasted from August ‘83 to late fall ‘85
@jamieburroughs427 the other two afterward were just too generic!
I wish they had kept this and not messed with it. Y&R has been going all these years with the same damned opening.
@lightninseed the worst one was the one in between this one and the synthesized one

Don’t worry…I’m coming, bud.
Bring guilding light to Netflix

Beth raines Lujack Phillip traingle remember this GL
"Furs by the Christie Brothers" so glamorous!
Watched GL 83-85
Gorgeous theme!
The women always used to watch these shows during the day, now they are a strong independent woman.
The version of this that ends with the dog on the church steps ... That's about as good as opening credits got in the 80s.
Oh so grand
This theme music should have debuted in late ‘81 instead of August ‘83.
Who was buried alive? Holly?
Annabelle

Didn't Reva look fabulous? And I Blake on that horse. I soooo miss GL!
That was Beth on the horse. Blake wasn’t on GL in 1984.
GL was the best until they made it the Reva Show
