After years of refusing to take my controllers apart and fix this issue and instead throwing them away..I’ve finally just finished doing this fix. My controller was drifting down and left before. Now it drifts to the left lmao. Thanks man! Gonna give it a go on the other controllers
Did this on my Xbox One S controller and it fixed the drift for me. Can't say if it will translate to others as I see a few comments saying that it made their controllers worse. A few notes on this video. To take off the two back face plates use a flat head screw driver to pry them off. Start at the bottom of the controller and work around the seam(you will hear the clips come off as you go). Then the reason the screws took forever to get off is they are security screws, so you need a T Security Bit and drill to easily take them off. I believe the size I used was a T8. Then a flat head should take off the plastic piece on the inside.

Don’t try this, it will ruin the Joystick, that piece is there for a reason and the reason is to maintain the arm that pushes the L3 and R3 (depending on which joystick you are talking about) in place no matter how far is the Joystick pushed, Missisng that plastic clip will totally ruin the L3/R3.
Aussie Sloth Aussie Sloth Take apart the controller carefully without damaging any screws (use the torx or security torx screwdriver you can find it cheap at Amazon) tear down the controller so you can easily get to the Joysticks themselves (the iron boxes with the actual grey sticks) you’ll see two little green boxes on each Joystick ( those are the sensors that tell the motherboard what direccion the Joysticks are pointing ) been one for the X axes and the other for the Y axes. After you identify those boxes carefully try to separate them from the metal box but be really really careful not to break the plastic clips or the soldering at the button of the green boxes. You can do it without damaging the motherboard and the soldering. After you CAREFULLY separated the green boxes you’ll se little round metal claws that tells that sensor which direccion the Joystick is pushing, be very careful and remember how that round piece is facing so you can reassemble the mechanisms the exact same way ( take a picture) clean the circular metal piece and reassemble the whole mechanism ( you can also try to clean the little Flex peace inside the green box that the circle claw is touching and is what tell the motherboard what to do. Once you have it all in place reassemble the controller so you can try it out, if the problem persist back out and try some more cleaning.
[Alternative - First Aid Solution] Take a Straw, Flatten it so it looks like this [] fit it in the analog stick from the side while holding it down and blow really-really hard from the other end of the straw (or pull air, up to you... but be careful... and don't overdo it). Enjoy a Drift-Free experience along with a really bad headache for a moment. PS: Join Us if that Helped ^^ I made a video out of it recently too in case you need a visual guidance ^^

I'm just tired of buying controllers, 90 day warranty is trash. Just order some kits on Amazon and fix them yourself, better than spending $65 every 3 months. And you can customize them however you want.
You don’t need to remove anything just spray electronic contact cleaner a few times in the joystick assembly then move joystick around and spray it again. Repeat process a few times then reassemble the controller it will work, I did it to mine and it works like new again.

It's after using it for a while. Usually it's 200-300+ hours. If you just bought it and have used it less than 100 hours you should be able to return it...
mine does that but it goes to the right and its so annoying while typing cause it whole automatically go to the suggested words half way and ill accidentally press on those and it whole be nothing like the word I was originally typing

Great video. I attempted to do this and yes it fixes the drift issue. But if its happening to the right joystick near the XYAB buttons don't remove the gray tab as it causes your remote to spin. Just my two cents

The diagnostics have a very high deadzone size (I think something like 24%) but many games are as low as 15% on their settings (possibly even more for some?). Best to simply find someone that does repairs and have them fix it. Likely they will change out the analog stick joystick.
