Brilliantly well made video! I have a pre-PPF car as well and love the difference this made to yours. I don't have the M Performance back box but as you said it doesn't make a massive difference. Can't wait to have this done!
I did this exact mod on my 230i, on that car the shorter, fatter box is first followed by the longer cylindrical resonator. I actually as the resonator removed first and your assumptions are correct - a lot more volume that bounces off walls, houses and other cars as I drive. When I had the smaller box removed there was more edge to the sound and it got slightly louder at WOT but again you were right - the pops crackles are straight up violent in aggressive driving, I love it. It really woke the car up for me as the 4 cylinder B48 cars are much quieter than the 6 cylinder cars stock. Gives the car far more character. My exhaust technician recommended removing the boxes one at a time so I would do too much too soon but I think with both off it stokes a good balance and it doesn’t drone or hinder it’s abilities as a daily. Cold start sounds pretty cool too 👌🏾
would it pass the sound test if its in the comfort mode.....i more concern the police , i already hav 6 points lol thx , and the drone not much notifiable coz i m thinking go for the bcs £499 or just straight pipe ( cheaper)
Only just realised you hit 1k! Had to switch channels on RUclips so forgot I hadn’t subbed to your or had notifications on. Congrats on 1k can’t wait for more content.
Just picked mine up yesterday after having a decat pipe fitted. Sounds absolutely insane. I have a res delete with drone eliminator, BCS powevalve mid section and a stage 2 map (460bhp). I had ear ache from the pops and bangs when I returned home, after having it in sports mode! 😆. In comfort mode, just cruising, there is literally 0 drone, as you also experienced. Amazing cars... I bought one because the 2JZ supra has got to be one of my all time favourite sounding cars, and these sound pretty similar! 😊 Oh and I meant to say... I got them to map out the cold starts. It sounded horrific cold starting haha. I leave home at 7am usually. To be honest, now they have done that, it just starts and idles normally. It's pretty quiet now for the mornings
I'll be going down the BM3 route once all the cosmetic stuff is finished (gotta start it first 🙄) First thing will be to map out the cold start. Even with my neighbours being into their cars as much as I am I don't think they appreciate the 4:30am wake up call 😂😂😂
lookship - That’s great! I still have a few cosmetics on order myself. Maxton has some really long delays for parts (currently 2 months). wow 4:30am is very early!! You’ll see a massive difference when you map it out. Mine is quieter cold starting than it was with the cat installed 😆
Got to say the MPPSK on the 3 series is pretty similar to the sound from the Supra. You do get drone in Sport/+ on the motorway though.... The m140i is one of those cars people will look back on, and no matter what other exotica you’ve owned in the meantime, you’ve probably not had any more fun - amazing motor. Nice edit 👍
Great editing and I like your drawings! A few months ago I did a backbox mod only on my OPF M140i and it sounds brilliants. Once the mod was broken in, pops and crackles become more noticeable. Volume and depth rise nicely after 2k withotu sounding asbo. Cold start is probably 10-15% louder and doesn't sound like a Spitfire :D
You’ll get a lot more louder pops and bangs if you rev or drive in Traction or DSC off mode! I’ve got an M240i myself and got the same thing to my exhaust done
Hey great video I have a decat and stage 2 sounds nice but definitely needs more going to get rid of first resonator( the long tubular one) hopefully this will do i also have cold start delete just to keep the peace with the neighbours 😀
I have the m perfomance exaust on mine ...unfortunately doing the res delete might upset my neighbor's even more as leave for work at 5AM somtimes ..yours does sound good though !!
I done this on mine then also added a backbox mod which I regret, the latter added a lot of drone. Next time I’d recommend staying with the stock backbox
Just bought a 21 m240i, and I was thinking about going with the Dinan mid pipe. I'm thinking this with the Dinan elite tune will be a great combo while under warranty to play it safe!
After the cold start dies down, try holding the traction off button for a few seconds so you go into DSC off, then give it some revs you should have more pronounced pops/burbles
This comment is on point. I’ve owned a lot of noisy motorcycles, not for the sake of the noise, but due to tuning and the noise was a byproduct. Like everything else, noisy exhausts are now being clamped down on and the public sheep will all start bleating on about antisocial behaviour. Dont get me wrong, I’m all in favour of the freedom to tune, but 1999 this aint. (Very sadly.)

Long term - did you have any drone with the double res delete teamed with the Mpe. I daily my car and don't want it to be too intrusive but as you said the MPE is a little tame in standard form.

Ive just had a resonator delete done on my m140i, stock backbox, the cold start is pretty loud but on the move its still too quiet for me, is the m performance exhaust and res delete nice and loud on the move? And how much louder is cold start compared to when you just had the m performance exhaust? Also i love the look of your rear diffuser in gloss black and your gloss black cannards at the front, where did you get it all done as middlesbrough isent mega far from where i live??
I'm not sure mate I've never heard it being driven by someone else to judge how loud it is from the outside. Not particularly loud in the cab with the windows down, which I like tbh. Cold starts must be 50% louder, at least. Bordering too loud when you set off for work at 5am every morning 😂 Exhaust work was done at Longlife Middlesbrough and I fitted all of the splitters/skirts/spats myself.

Great video mate, such an underrated RUclipsr👍🏻 would you mind doing a running cost video on the m140? That would be great! Subbed keep up the hard work
Nobody has posted any real science about res deletes, so I will be the first. The exhaust resonator improves the overall performance of your engine. It creates a smoother driving experience when you’re at the wheel, allowing the engine to produce a maximum level of horsepower without using too much fuel to do so. Some vehicles experience a small drop in their fuel efficiency when the resonator delete kit is used because the engine is forced to work a little harder to create the results that you want. The impact is minor, but if your aim is for maximum impact, this disadvantage might come into play. A resonator delete changes the way that the pulses generated by your vehicle move through the exhaust system. Think of this device as if it were a large echo chamber. It takes those pulses, optimizes their frequencies, and this makes it possible to achieve better power production. Taking this away makes the engine work harder too, so not only are you losing some of your fuel efficiency, there’s some power loss to contend with as well. It might look and act like a muffler, but it does much more than that too. Modern vehicles have part of the combustion cycle involve the pistons. They push the exhaust gas used by the engine out of the chamber before filling up with fresh air and fuel. The resonator exerts an additional force on this process, helping the gases move faster through the system. It uses the sound waves from the device to evacuate the combustion chamber, moving the exhaust through the pipes, then eventually out of the muffler. Stronger waves create a better vacuum. You’ll lose that if you choose a resonator delete. Most idling issues for a vehicle, especially an older one, are due to a catalytic converter under-performing. If there isn’t enough back pressure placed on the engine, then it may try to stall on you when your foot isn’t on the gas pedal. Although the risk of this disadvantage happening from a single resonator delete mod is quite low, it is still a possibility on a vehicle which hasn’t seen much in the way of exhaust service over the course of its lifetime.
So I’m on the verge of buying a stock m140i, I currently drive a 430d but I need more doors for kids! I wanted a m3 but because my girlfriend will mostly be driving it she said she doesn’t want anything that makes loud noises.. so we agreed on a m140i, I’m 100% gonna get it mapped but I was thinking about the res delete and if it would make it too loud for my moaning girlfriend😂 was just wondering if you put it in eco mode is it quiet?

Oh yeah I forgot to mention this...👀😂😂
Ty for the explanation fella 🙌

RK Tuning 👍
great plate on the supra haha
Beauty innit 😋
Really useful but t would be good to hear the before and after from within the car, I can't drive it with my head taped to the bumper 😉
Might be a dumb question but does it effect the MOT tests.
Find out tomorrow I guess 🤣
Are you from Middlesbrough mate
Mayyyyybe 😉
Now then, I’ve just bought a very similar car and live close by to you.
Any way you could contact me and let me know where you got this done?
Cheers
Longlife Middlesbrough dude. He has a page on Facebook 👍
There's moments when it sounds like bad rumbly guts 😁
Sounds pants compared to even a stock exhaust N55 but whaddaya gonna do? At least you get the extra power I guess.
Is that a tommi sports T-shirt u had on?
Mayyyybe
*cries in Germany with OPF*
This do-able on the Legacy? I'm the lad with the blue one in Boro 👍🏻
I don't see why not 🤔
The noise in the cab of the Legacy seemed pretty muted too unlike the GT86 which was like sitting in a tin lunchbox 😂
Do you have OPF in it?
Nope anything before 2018 shouldn't have one.
Yup. Comfort mode and its virtually silent 🤫
@@lookship ok I’ll blame you if I’m single in a couple of weeks 😂👍
@@XLscaf just don't let her start it cold...😆
@@lookship 😂👍
Would this cause the car to fail an MOT?
Nope, doesn't mess with emissions so should be fine, may get a advisory but it would have to be insanely loud
Is this essentially a straight pipe
If you remove the cat, yes.
