  • Kayaking the Wapsipinicon River between the Sherman Park (Calamus, IA) and the Allen’s Grove (Donahue, IA) dedicated landings. Both are dedicated landings and indicated on Google Maps. Both have plenty of parking and concrete ramps to the river. Mud was not an issue at either landing, nor on the river. The river gauge at De Witt was about 5.0’ and felt ‘low’. A few more inches of water would have resulted in a lot less hang-ups on sand/gravel. We did get out and walk a few times; maybe 3-4 each. Deadfall was not an issue and what is in the river is fun to maneuver around, under, or through. The trip was 10.25 miles and took us about 3 3/4 hours at a leisurely pace. With more water and current, that could be cut down significantly. We had time and the weather was perfect so we took our time.
