I bought this parka last winter. I live in Chicago, so the winters are pretty cold. This is the warmest jacket I own. I no longer have to wear my Michelin Man style eiderdown puffer anymore. I highly recommend this product!
Great COMPANY! I bought that jacket and the zipper failed. They sent me a new one right away no questions asked. Warmest jacket at -40 I have ever owned.
I heard about Oros, years ago. I honestly thought it was a scam because I figure Patagonia, Arc'teryx, OR, or another outdoor retailer would be the first. Happy to see I am wrong. This would be way better to wear to the office.
I had to try it before I believed it too. It really is impressive. My wife even picked one up. Very stylish too. I love my mountain clothes, but it is nice to be more streamlined for casual use too 😎👌
@@EngearmentI remember that TNF has a project where they tried to build an expedition suit with aerogel, but they can't figure out how to make it breathable. What has been your experience with it's breathability? Resort skiing or just casual use?
@@thdjjfsfh Oh wow, that is fascinating! I will have to look into that TNF project. I was surprised at the breathability of the jacket. I would say that OROS did a good job in their creation of insulation - Solarcore. I have used it for casual use in temps down to -9F (last week was chilly here!) and shoveled snow, walked dogs and such with no overheating. I would say it would be good for lift access skiing. The hood is not helmet compatible though, so keep that in mind.
An interesting review. I've been wearing cross core and graphene based insulation and both have been very good. I understand solar core will be even more insulating per mm of insulation but I'm wondering about design and construction quality. How does Oros compare to say Patagonia or Arcteryx?
Deadbird and Patagonia are the best in terms of fit and function. I have not found many brands that can match that. But, neither have this kind of insulation. My wife and I have been using the heck out of the Orion and it is looking good as new. I would say the quality is 95% as good.
@@Engearment good to hear. It feels risky to buy a niche brand but then again, customers had to take a chance on Patagonia and Arcteryx in the early days.
Have you tried any of the ll bean primaloft packaway jackets? I have the base model and am astounded by how warm the cross core insulation is for how thin it is. I'm curious what the waterproof and pro versions are like...
Hello Justin! Great question. I have not used the FF Helios jacket. Looking at the specs, that looks like an awesome jacket though! I am still a big fan of good down puffies for the packability and versatility. I have used a few other good down jackets with simular fill power and fill weight. I found them to be very comparable. In some ways, the Orion was warmer overall. Less bulky too. But if I was backpacking or concerned about packing size, I would go with down. Hope that helps a bit!
I was hoping someone would ask this question! :) Being as they both have a version of aerogel, they are both really warm. I like the DAS Parka for its packability and alpine features. For strict mountain use, it gets my nod. I like the Orion for its warmth without being puffy, streamlined design and good looks. For all around use and city use, the Orion gets the vote. Hope that helps!

Heck ya! That’s good service. And it’s a warm AF jacket 👌
@@Engearment where can you buy this jacket in Canada? What retailers sell this jacket and how much is it?
Hard to find youtube reviewers from oros. Thanks for doing it.
Thank you Staley! Not sure why there are not more OROS reviews either. Good stuff!
Thank you! The parka is on sale and I just bought it!
Nice score! Thanks for the nice note too!

Love the Oros Orion Parka.
Wonderful! Glad to hear that.
If you can only have ONE jacket...this is it..

Hello! I have not tried those yet. But will look into that. Thanks for putting it on our radar. Take care!
Will you review 2023 MTB boot from Thirty two soon ?
I am hoping so. Had a meeting with Thirty-Two a few months ago to go over them. 🙌

Do you have thermal imaging or a friend with thermal imaging? I'm wondering if this aerogel clothing will defeat thermal imagers.
Hello Ike, that is a really good question. I will see if we can track down a FLIR or something like that. Thanks!
What is the warmest jacket in your opinion...
This one is warmest one (per the size - that was not super puffy).
I'm jealous. I hate being cold.
This is definitely a warm jacket!
So it's better than the $2000 Canada Goose Mantra?
Not sure. Have not used that jacket before.
With them both being $450, how does it compare to the DAS Parka?

They have frequent sales. Literally bought a Orion parka today for $270.

Does the solar core material have a scent to it?
Not that I am aware of. It is rather neutral smelling in my experience.
Is it available in uk?
I would image they can ship it there.
Is he in a studio? Why does the background look totally static?
🙃 studio? Static? This is clear creek county, Colorado. The blur is from a good camera lens. It’s called bokeh.
Are the top external pockets zippered?
Yep
