I'm not ironically using Bing. Google search is now unusable; 80% of the results are ads. I'm a front-end developer, and when I use a search engine for work, Bing is much more helpful.
Not true. I conciously changed from Google to Bing when Microsoft bought OpenAI. Bing will catch up massively over the next years. Also, if you use Sharepoint at work, you can use Bing search as well, so you can search the web and for content in your orginization. I'd say that the results using Google are still better, but there actually are reasons to use Bing.
Wild to think that early Yahoo wasn't so much a search engine, so much as an attempt to list every website on the internet, divided by category. Back in the heady days of 1996, when the internet was small enough that "a page that lists every website on the internet" seemed like an achievable goal
This isn't a "based on usage", it's "based on percentage of data that it has access to". Duck Duck Go has very little access to data and its search isn't as "intelligent" because of their privacy policies.
Except it didn't run advertising. And it's algorithm was hit based. So pages with the most references to your search keywords would display first. Not ads paid for and people paying google the most. Google could only dream of being as useful these days.
Ahah how did Seznam get there in 2011 lol? For those who don't know, it's a Czech company developing a search engine, online maps etc. It's quite popular here, but we're a small country and I don't suppose that Seznam has any relevance to non-Czechs.
It may not be relevant to non-Czechs, but when an entire country exclusively uses a domestic search engine (like Russians with Yandex or South Koreans with Naver), it has an impact on the stats.
I just ChatGPT Search'd it and according to the results it pulled automatically from the internet after searching through EVERY SINGLE RESULT on the internet. It says you are wrong. And gave me like 1000 sources for why you were wrong.

Per its own definition, it’s an AI assistant. It can access the same information as so you could use it as a search engine but that’s not what it actually is.
It’s considered a search engine because many people use ChatGPT as a primary way to retrieve information, actually very similar to how we would use Google or Bing.
I base the data on a mix of company reports, surveys for earlier years, and research company data for later years. It’s pieced together from multiple reliable sources.
I was a fan of AskJeeves. You could see, in real time, what other people were searching. There was some.... interesting.... stuff being searched. Haha... 🤪🤪
I wouldn't classify ChatGPT as a search engine. First and foremost it's an LLM. The fact that people use it instead of a search engine, doesn't make it one.
@@DataIsBeautifulOfficial Not really. Both cars and bikes are subcategories of modes of transportation. And so, by analogy, both ChatGPT and search engines are modes of gathering information but are not the same thing - they are built based off entirely different principles.
Cars and bikes share the same primary purpose - transportation. ChatGPT and search engines also share a primary purpose for many users - finding information. The difference in how they work doesn’t disqualify them from being used interchangeably in practice.
@@DataIsBeautifulOfficial I agree, but still ChatGPT can't be called a search engine, because it is not one by design.
