Video is helpful except for step 11. Where is the keyhole where the control rod is supposed to go?

Did you ever figure this out? Currently stuck on this part. I see a hole but the control rod doesn't seem to fit and I feel like I might break it if I force it. If you need to refresh your memory she does this step at 13:27

Is attaches to the yellow part of the spreader. There is a whole to insert it. Also a cutter pin to secure it.

@@PartOfTheExperiencethe irony - I’m putting mine together right now as well and am doing this step as well. There are two holes off to the left side of the yellow plate. I’m assuming it goes in the one at the lower corner… it’s slightly beveled. There’s a second hole right above it, but it’s not beveled… assuming not that one.

@J C Yes the hole closest to the front left corner. Mine was definitely not keyshaped like the instructions it was circular shaped. I ended up using a flat head and Phillips screwdriver to scrape out some of the hole and eventually got it to go in. Good luck haha

@@nathanschmitt8113 I got mine in well enough, but the linkage rubs against the arm right below it just a smidge. Does yours do this as well?

This video is old and outdated. They forget to go back and tighten all screws. For the price of the spreader they should have a better video. The paper instructions that come in the box look like they are photo copies and you can’t read them. The one piece you don’t install (the yellow part that controls the rate of product )well the team who put it together installed the wrong part and it took several days and I had to call several times to get them to send replacement part. Then I had to disassemble, add new part and reassemble. For the price of the spreader I am disappointed from the lack of customer service and installation process.

They cut the parts with the inevitable torrent of curses when you try to bend the cotter pins 🙂

Thank you for this tutorial. I wish it had more close ups for each step. This has to be has the WORST experience of assembling any tool.

Quick tip: Hold the drive wheel when bending the free wheel cotter pin. This helped me out a lot.

Here's a tip; The handles are 7/8" diameter, which means you can put motorcycle handgrips on it for more comfort.

I got mine completely assembled how the instructions were my right drive wheel is locking up after approximately a few feet and there is no rotation with the spreader. Has anybody else had this issue and if so, what was the cause?

Amazon reviews said “don’t bother reading the manual” so this video was critical. I had similar experiences to the other commenters. 1) the video was EXTREMELY helpful. Paused during the labor steps and it ended up taking about 30 minutes. 2) She overemphasized the drive wheel vs. glide wheel so much that i only thought the grommet was needed on the drive wheel. Had to do a little re-assembly to put the other grommet on. Probably my mistake on that one. 3) I also wish there was a close up on what hole to put the control rod in. There are like 6 holes back there. 4) it’s missing but there is a hitch pin for when you install the control rod. Spreader works great so far, thanks again!

I really appreciate you guys posting videos like this. Doesn't feel like an advertisement or too "corporate". It's very real and honest. Good assembly video for novices.

Did anyone not have to install the large cotter pin at the end of the video? My metal shaft that comes up in the bottom of the bucket doesn't have a hole in it.

  • @DrGoljan

There are so many things she is saying differently (wrong) from the instructions!
    1. Lower handle bolt head goes on the outside, not inside
    2. The holes on handle mid shaft are not the same - it does matter which side you install. The side with holes closer to the end go at the top according to the manual
    3. Agitator pin is installed backwards on the video.
No closeup video of the steps. Like step 11. The keyhole is not that obvious. Why have a video if it’s not shown?
While she does this correctly according to the manual, I actually think that the “calibration” step should be done opposite as instructed. Set it once the hopper holes are completely closed rather than open - otherwise it won’t shut completely when you try to turn it off and you’ll get some leakage.
Bad video. Fairly complicated assembly. Good product however.
