I have been watching you since you had a Chinese gf and building your previous katamaran. Can hardly believe it have gone so many years past already. Im incredibly proud of the progress you have made, both as a awesome human being, and as a hard worker. Im also glad to know you have support in the most superduper dad and mum. Not having the best upbringing myself, i see the worth in a family that stand up for each other. Your dad is marvelous! So are you my guy ☺️ had a few paints, so excuse me for my heartfelt love for this channel. Im not the one to leave many comments, but when i do, its from the heart. A suggestion: rig a way to safely use your mast and boom as a hoist to load and unload moderate cargo. This might be easier to plan for before you finish the boom. With 3 outboards to maintain and other normal handling, a lifting "crane" system will be useful. Being able to easily remove a motor, place it up in a worspace for repair, then return it would be so handy.

Do not use grease (except for silicone) on the impeller of the pump, as it is made of rubber that is not resistant to oil. This will first cause the rubber to swell and then make it hard and brittle. The best way to insert the impeller into the housing is to use liquid soap.

solar panels make a great dog house roof. I have a 50 year old 40ft sailing cat, I put a 3.5kw solar array as a hard top, it's awesome, just the power coming of the panels drives the boat at 4.5kn without drawing from the batteries. I see people building hard tops then putting flexible panels on top but flexables don't put out power like a ridgid panel does and the aluminum frames are very strong, just sikafex them together and you have a lightweight, powerful, waterproof roof. If your interested, I'll send you photos of it

    • @airwess88
      @airwess88 6 дней назад

Actually the new flexible/walkable CIGS panels blow the doors off the rigid panels and shading barely affects them. However, they do cost a lot more up front, but long term are a solid investment that will pay you back in power. They are truly flexible. You can roll them up. They don't suffer micro-cracking like standard flexible panels and with the standard ones, they need to be warm before they can flex at all, which really isn't much at all to begin with.

To save space the pipes could nest inside each other to save space.

In minute 16:13 it looks like you're using grease to lubricate the impeller for putting it into the engine. OK, it functions that way, but keep in mind that all kinds of oil and grase are harmful for the rubber material. I use liquid soap for such jobs. Hi Mark, It's great to see you are back on the tools, and Mahi will be ready in no time..!!
A thought for raising the dinghy, could you try to fabricate a pair of slings to slip under the dinghy and lift with a halyard or winch? A wide strap trailer winch would probably do the job. Even a pair of ratchet tie own straps would work, but you need something more robust and less likely to rust.
But you get the idea, bring the dinghy under the midship deck, pass the strap underneath, and hook onto a padeye, then wind up the winch end.
You can use these straps to haul up onto the foredeck for longer passages with a halyard as the turning point halfway up the mast.
    Cheers

    Simple Davits for the dingy.
Gotta inject something like bleach mixed with a bit of dishwashing soap or perhaps a vinegar solution to kill the mold! Just do it or you will literally live and breath mold for as long as you and guests/crew are on the boat dude.
And yes you'll be drilling a lot of holes.
Maybe an actual injector of some kind can force the mold killer in a broader area than just using a syringe of some kind?
That mold will be the bane of your existence!

You must know the 9.9 in and out now 😅 it will come in handy and you will feel confident going to sea knowing you can fix any outboard problems. With your tender if you have s/s eyelets at the transom and a lifting point up forward. You can attach some lifting ropes to a balancing point midship of your tender and hoist it up with your main halyard and winch it up on your deck or let it hang on the hull. But always secure it with your painter. Good luck Champ 🙏

    G'day Mark,
    Cool vid .
Pleased to hear your making a cockpit / dodger, consider plastic or fibreglass & perspex sheet , it can be riveted / bolted to a light frame (dad could weld it up)
& roof can catch rain if has a gutter . Outside can be lined with solar cells.
Look forward to next episode .
    Respect....!

Make yourself a boat lift out of 2 truck tie downs.
Attach one end to say the port side x2, with the straps in the water under your dingy then using the rachets ( on the starboard side ) to lift it out of the water.
Maybe a net between the straps to distribute the weight.

I saw dry rot in action in my aunt's house, I was astounded at how destructive it was. Eventually is was all professionally cut out or treated at great expense. I'm sure you will watch it like a hawk and tackle it timely.

When your boom is completed you'll be able to rig an easy purchase to
lift your dingy and bring materials and supplies aboard. You might even make a temporary strut to serve the purpose till boom is done. This strut could also serve for poling out your sail.

don't know if it's a good idea or not.. but perhaps a sacrificial float that lifts the dingy just barely out of the water.. even if it's splashed often.. might be hard for stuff to attach with airflow hitting it often.. maybe like a net and buoys.. a strong tarp.. an old sail cut to a square... maybe floats you can wrap with used tarps and remove to quickly clean it off.. like a shoe booty.. maybe half lifted out and just float on the back

Well done on what you have achieved so far. One thing that I think would be of a big Benefit to you, and inexpensive, is a wire retention strap for your outboard. You attach two u bolts either side of your transom and then attach one end of retention straps to one side feed it through the handle on the outboard and connect it to the other u bolt so that if when you select reverse and get that initial kickback you don’t,t see your engine jump off the transom and drop to the sea bed.

That grease on the impeller? Hope not because it will cause the rubber to swell and break down. Use liquid soap to get it on.
