I have revived the blog. This blog post will provide some information on this video and upcoming events. heightjourney.wordpress.com/2023/03/25/video-femurs-vs-tibias-for-limb-lengthening-surgery-the-final-analysis/ I also have a website along with this RUclips channel to help assist with concerns about leg lengthening surgery. I have arranged for details on my website. Here is the Services page where you can order accurate mockup pictures of yourself for a small fee. See for yourself what your proportions will look like after a specified limb lengthening surgery, rather than trying to guess based on some numbers. There are four types of services available on our website: 1. Consultation Call 2. Mockup Pictures 3. My Leg Lengthening Diary 4. X-ray Analysis website link: www.heightjourney.com/services/
Cool video man! I want to do 3.5-3.7 cm tibias also, do you think I should go with external or internal if money is not the issue, I'm thinking maybe external prevents the development of bow legs and such, but would it really develop at such a conservative length ? what is your advice or opinion
By all means, go internal nails (even if money is somewhat an issue). External fixators are painful and have a high rate of infection. Plus you'll be spending a lot of time sterilizing the pins that pierce your skin with external fixators.
In terms of price, keep in mind that you can do tibia using LON method which is significantly cheaper than doing femurs using precice, making tibia actually cheaper
Yes, that's true. But there is a tradeoff with LON tibias, it's cheaper but the patient will have to deal with much more pain, a much greater risk of infection (including osteomyelitis or deep bone infection that can cripple), inconvenience getting around with the fixators during lengthening, and much larger scars.
Hi Could you compare the physiotherapy exercises for tibia versus femurs? Is the tibia pt exercises more easy or simple or such that you could manage most of them independently? Thanks!
Tibia PT is less time-consuming because it's mostly stretching the calves and ankles, along with hamstrings. Femur PT you have to stretch the many large muscles around the femurs and hips. But both are important. Subscribe to my channel and watch the numerous PT videos I have. The strengthening part is more likely to be done independently, but the stretching part is more effective if a PT or someone else helps you stretch.
About tibia vs femurs. Different people who did both segments describe different experiences. Post op pain - most say femurs is more painful. It makes sense to me because there is more soft tissue around the bone (?) Severity of debilitation in first weeks: I suppose femurs is worse because of the same reason. The ability to move around in first month or two (with walker): Tibia perhaps easier because of less pain(?) Pain of lengthening after 2-3 cm: tibia is worse because, ... I don't know? What are your thoughts?
These are very detailed questions which I don't have the time to answer for free. You can find some answers by watching my RUclips videos. I also have a website with services offered, including purchasing diaries of my femur lengthening and tibia lengthening, and consultation calls. www.heightjourney.com/services/
