  • Ernesto García de León
    García de León was born in Jáltipan, Veracruz, Mexico, on July 10, 1952. He is the founder, together with other Latin American musicians, of the "Casa de las Américas Musicology Award" in Havana, Cuba (1979). He has participated as an interpreter and / or composer in the main national and international festivals.
    He has written more than 60 works and has more than 30 CDs where his music appears.

    I think the composion is interesting but it is to agressive to represent an old man. The dissonces give you a sense lethargic movement or memory failure but for me the rythmic character is to up beat. Joseph

      This piece represents a tradition in Veracruz, where they make a man-shaped vessel that represents the year thats near to end. They stuff this vessel with old clothes and fireworks and then light the fireworks up to celebrate the new year. This man-shaped thing its called "El Viejo" and that's why this piece is so playful and full of movement
