  • Vietnam became famous for a particular street food, called Banh Mi, when Anthony Bourdain No Reservations came through Hoi An in 2012 and ate at Banh Mi Phuong - and it's still the most popular street food option in 2017, as our RUclips upload shows!
    This vlog is about the Vietnamese sandwich with incredible bread, Banh Mi is one of the most well known street food options in Asia and is sold by restaurants and street vendors everywhere! Anthony Bourdain created a movement we think, now everyone is trying to sell Banh Mi and we're all buying! We hit up a few of the most popular spots to see what it's all about in Hoi An.
    No Reservation was pretty much the show that put Banh Mi on the map along with Phuong in Hoi An! We were stoked to get to taste the sandwhich for ourselves.

    Anthony Bourdain is a famous chef who wrote some best sellers about the business and food. He travels the world for public television and is immensley entertaining, adventurous, funny, earthy, and intelligent. His shows are a hoot to watch. You should see his show on the food in Morrocco. He has chef friends all over the world. His 2 books are great!

      We really need to watch some more of his stuff, everyone thought we were a bit crazy for not really knowing of him! Haha

    Anthony Bourdain is a bit of a rockstar in the food community. I'm obsessed, found some amazing hidden food gems when traveling that's to his shows.

      +nzchrisgirl We know that now haha, at least the video was a bit more real because we sort of didn't really have a clue at the time!

    I loved this video! I'm excited to go to Hoi An and Da Nang this year with my hubby. I have been watching Anthony Bourdain for over 10 years. He is like the bad boy/rock star of the cooking world. He is known for his cussing, adventorous spirit and speaking his mind. I would suggest watching "Parts Unknown" on Netflix :) Keep up the great work!!!

    "Banh Mi" is a small French baguette ".
    Vietnam was a French's colony and Saigon was a capital of Indochina for 100 years.
    Then Americans came in 60 and 70. After the fall of Saigon, Russians are everywhere, specially Nha Trang, Mui Ne...

      +Bill Kay Definitely a bit trickier to get established in Vietnam, but depends where you go really. Hoi An is beautiful, but not as well setup and HCM or Hanoi for example. We've got some costs, apartment hunting, settling in type videos to come!

    You guys made me hungry! That Banh Mi sandwich looks amazing. I actually had one in Manila. It was tasty but I have no doubt it wasn't close to the sandwiches you ate, especially the one at the famous spot. That's funny you guys aren't familiar with Bourdain. He is definitely at rock star level as someone mention. In my opinion he's actually kind of the father or grandfather of food and travel vlogging. Food is a major part of what he does but he really gets deep into the culture and history of wherever he travels to. He's probably been at it for 20 years or something lol.. I am truly loving your vlogs. I didn't realize you have some from the Philippines. That's my second home. In fact, my wife and I are headed back there next month. Anyway, time to watch some more of your vlogs! 😎✌🏽

      +Dream331 Thanks so much for the support, massive appreciation for comments like this and seeing your name popup on so many of our vids, thanks! Sneak peek for you, if you like the Philippines, and interested in our last videos, you might be quite interested in one of our upcoming vlogs :P ..... suspense builds.... haha. We love it there. Our old videos arent great, we were pretty new, but we 'hope' to see it again soon.. hint hint.

      Daneger and Stacey oh nice! That means you're returning to the Philippines? 😁 Looking forward to seeing that! I already watched the video where you guys went to the cafe in Manila. I must find that cafe! There's so much to see and do in the Philippines. Manila is great but I truly love the province of Pangasinan. My wife is from there originally and I've been spoiled by the kindness and culture of the people and not to mention the incredible food! And as I watch this video again and see those sandwiches, I'm getting hungry all over again so I'll end here! 😂✌🏽take care!

      @@Dream331 out of interest, why do you like the philippines? i've been to most countries in south east asia....and philippines was one of the dirtiest, most polluted, poor and with terrible infrastructure. I don't know why anyone would choose philippines over vietnam, or thailand. Why? can someone explain? Yes the people are friendly, but people are incredible friendly in every country in south east asia.

      piggy66 I imagine if my name was piggy I wouldn’t be too fond of the phils either 😂😂 Try the lechon, maybe some crispy pata or some pork sisig next time you’re there! 😂😂 Beyond that, I have zero desire to change your already made up mind 🤷🏼‍♂️ Poverty, infrastructure issues is a worldwide problem even where I reside in the good ol USA. Enjoy the places you enjoy and keep it moving. 😁☮️

    Loving your videos! Great to get a Kiwi perspective :) My wife and I are off to Hoi An, Siem Reap and Koh Rong Sanloem for 17 nights in 5 weeks. Can you tell me what gym you used in Hoi An? I've found a couple that look promising; Son Phong and Superfit Gym. Any thoughts on these? Cheers - James

    • @DanegerAndStacey
      @DanegerAndStacey  7 лет назад +1

      +James Butters Hey mate, appreciate the support and comment - thanks! No questions asked, the gym you're after is Super Fit - it's better than a lot of the gyms I've trained in around the world, and really cheap as well. Super casual at the same time, I train barefoot which is much easier for squats etc. It may find its way into the vlog at some stage, but not sure how interested our audience is. Exciting times ahead for you guys, sounds like an epic trip!

    • @jamesjernhandklanen4653
      @jamesjernhandklanen4653 7 лет назад +1

      Yeah, we are getting pretty damn excited now that the countdown is on! Sounds like Superfit it is then :D I couldn't find any vids on the tube re this gym, except the opening night celebration. Not sure how popular Fitness Tourism is but surely you would have an audience; plenty of gym bunnies out there that want to stay fit on holiday! Keep up the good work team!!

      17 nights is a great amount of time as well, that's awesome. Good to know re your searching, could be a video that fills that gap, but according to my tools the search volumes around Hoi An as a whole are pretty low sadly! Would be different if we were in HCM or Hanoi though. Either way, thanks for watching and will try slip in Superfit at some stage, the next 3 or 4 vlogs are already filmed though.

    Your video is nice. I just like to ask you to look around town see if you can find 1 guy that walking on the street shirtless. In Vietnam might be hot, but it is almost taboo to go out in public shirtless, unlike westerner.

    I love banh mi!! Or hoagies I guess that's also what it's called. Glad you guys are enjoying Hoi An! Hey is there any chances that you would be in Ho Chi Minh city in early October?

      @DanegerAndStacey  7 лет назад

      +JSTFD Haha I've never called the hoagies but I just love the sound of that name. Yah loving Hoi An - don't think we will be going South though, maybe only briefly North :)

  • @yotty97
    @yotty97 5 лет назад

    lol you got it wrong. You went to the same CHAIN but not the same store. The one bourdain went to is the immediately next to the central market. I've been to both, and they have a different style - the one near the central market (that bourdain went to) is better.

    Great video guy's.Im a foodie so nothing like the best of something and reasonably priced. Unfortunately Anthony Bordoine who had the best job in the world committed suicide. I believe he was dealing with his own demons. Its sad.We need Fod in our lives to keep us strong. Thanks for the good vlog.

    Even though you don't know who Anthony "fake traveler" Bourdain is it was smart of you to put his name in your title....:-)....btw Daneger, I read somewhere that when a woman constantly laughs at your jokes, it's a surefire sign she fancies you.....nudge, nudge, wink, wink - gr8 vid btw.....:-).....tossing and fiddling with their hair is another sign - I know because I have to keep telling random women to stop doing that, cause it's annoying.....am I digressing?
