A caller, Chong, calls in and claims she died and visited a strange version of God and heaven. Matt and Jimmy dig into her story with rational questions. How could Chong see her spirit leave her body? Why would God use pen and paper to talk to angels? How does this differ from a vivid dream? Chong's inability to directly address these points leads to rising tensions. The hosts conclude there's no good evidence this was anything more than a dying brain's fantasy - and if true, would paint God as irrational. An intense, frustrating, but illuminating exchange.

Gentle reminder: a "near death experience" is another way to say "an experience I had when I was alive"
Or "an experience i had when I didn't die."
Just like saying “I just fought a grizzly bear with my bare hands” is another way to say “I had an experience while I was breathing”.

@@darkstar4494it is useful, when people try to use those experiences as evidence for anything happening after your death. They did not die, so they did not experience anything that is an "after life"- or "being dead"-experience.

I'm half Korean.. I grew up going to Korean churches with my mom. They take things to another nutty level. They're insane. I'm telling you.
On the flip side, the Korean churches are the only ones that had a feast after church service. They always provided food. They don't just take your money and give you nothing back in return. They provided thousands of dollars worth of food every Sunday after service. It was my favorite part of church as a little boy. I remember every Sunday.. Boxes and boxes of donuts. I could get as many donuts as I want because there were so many.
I live in Taiwan, and I agree. The same kind of utter evangelical cuckoo goes on here. It’s an American import… just shallower and better funded.

As an artist I can confirm that pure white against pure white means you cannot see anything within the white area. You can only depict a figure by using colors such as grey or any other non-white color, and then it is not pure white.
The barrier is not language. The barrier is logic, and this woman's total inability to fathom what logic is, or how to use it.
A figure that is pure white can be seen against a background that is pure if there are shadows (i.e. 3 dimensional) … both are still pure white! 😮😊
@@stephencarter8625 Shadows are grey or other colors. If something is pure white, there are no shadows. In real life there are always shadows, so only portions of something can be pure white. The rest of it is various shades of off-white, greys, etc. In the arts including video and photography we refer to these as highlights, mid tones, shadows etc.

Ive been sick for three days, including a trip to the emergency room for 3 separate but simultaneous issues that compounded how bad i feel. Can confirm the fart as feeling like soul leaving the body. If we give some leeway on whatever a soul might be in any case.

These kinds of calls honestly make me sad. You hear this kind of thing all the time and it's so frustrating because there's nothing you can say to these stories because at the end of the day, this whatever happened situation is so deeply important to people, it FEELS so profound and they need so badly for it to be true, they don't think about it any more than that and criticism of it boils down to "you just don't understand because you didn't experience it."

They've already made their minds up about these beliefs and experiences long before they call in to defend them. I sometimes find it hard to tell how much of it is genuine confusion wrought from a different mindset, or stubbornness borne from having to fight on behalf of their claims. To be fair to Chong I suspect she fits into former category better.
As long as the wingnuts don't get to teach this stuff in public schools, I'm okay. Believe what you want, but let's maintain the separation of church and state

It's like the rapture and the end times. They know that the rapture, end times, and the antichrist all happen at the same time and are connected. They bellyache about the rapture not happening yet, then later if anything is perceived as the antichrist or one world government happening, they scream "this has to be stopped". They make absolutely no sense. You'd think if they honestly thought any of the democrats running for POTUS were actually the antichrist, they would be dancing in the street ready to be whisked off to heaven. No it's the opposite reaction. "The economy will collapse, christians will be put into camps, sin will take over, etc". According to the narrative, that's the whole point of the end times. Chong thinks that proclaiming she was an atheist when this experience occurred will in turn make her claims bulletproof.
“God is not the way we think”. But yet she describes him as being white and male. I would argue that most theists think this 😂

Jimmy, you did an EXCELLENT job of self-control. I would have been rolling all over the floor, laughing myself to death.
But on a far more serious note, I mourn for Chong's plight. She is a depleted self. Religion, blind beliefs, have robbed her of a huge chunk of her cognition, and probably her personality, and even humanity. In several very serious ways, she cannot track reality. She has also been robbed of her honesty, for she lies to herself, and to others.
I hate religion because of what it can do to human beings. No matter what cognitive talents she has, and even a human brain of modest abilities has awesome powers of cognition, they have been compromised by religious filth.
I was once in a similar trap to hers, but thankfully had some friends who helped me to dig out of this horrible nightmare.
What saved me was science. I love science, and science teaches respect for facts. It's methods and procedures are brutal about beliefs and suppositions that have no epistemic warrant.
Man, no wonder I never felt anything or had any spiritual experience while praying growing up. He apparently was busy manually writing stuff down with heavenly pen and paper for angels

My mother was in hospice for 6 months +. At the end, the last month or so, she had lucid dreams as Jimmy was talking about - dreams about her father, my dad, etc. I should point out that she was on morphine also to lessen her pain. Take that info however you wish.
My mother just switched off, and never spoke again. Wish I had pretty stories to tell, but it was cruel, fast, final.

She was cracking wise with the hospice nurse on Friday and OK on Saturday AM when one of my friends came to see her but when she "fell asleep" later that was it. The only exception was the following Thursday when there were multiple people there and her eyes opened for a moment, and she looked around and that was that.
When my father was near the end he was seeing alligators on the ceiling, black kittens, an old woman, kids. all due to kidney and liver failure
I had multiple NDEs while on psychedelics. At the time it feels so real and is a powerful experience. I can understand completely how people who have these experiences believe strongly in whatever they think has happened. I often ha trouble wrapping my head.around my own experiences.

I used to play High School football. I had multiple concussions. On a few of them I had an "out of body experience" where I felt like I was floating above my body. Obviously I wasn't as I was still walking around. I just had brain trauma. Nearly dying has to be traumatic to the brain as well.

What a great story! It was a rollicking, rollercoaster ride of chills, spills and thrills! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time! The part of god was played with verve and gusto! I had a near-death experience last night where a bunch of stuff happened. At the end of it tho, I found myself in a college classroom, in my underwear for some reason, and it was the day of the most important final exam I needed for my degree. I realized that I had done no studying.
The professor was absolute, pure white against an absolute, pure white background, so I could see him clearly. He was shaking his head in disappointment. That was god, sending me a message. All my classmates (angels) then laughed at me. I ran out of the room, weeping, and then fell over. At that moment I snapped back to life. I was dead for an hour or so.
Except for the last part of my time in heaven, however, it was glorious.
