Happy to add a fourth skill set to my repertoire! I’ve learned crochet, Tunisian crochet, knitting, and now knooking, in that order.
Thank you. I've been crocheting my whole life and am very advanced but knitting never seemed to work. Now I can knook and create knitted designs too. Thanks!
It’s a whole new world!!
I've tried knitting SO many times and have had multiple people try to teach me and I never could get it but I can understand crochet just fine. This just blew my mind this makes so much more sense to me
I felt the same. I wish more people knew about knooking. It’s the best bits of knitting and crochet combined!!
Youve opened my crafting to a whole new world!!!! Soooo excited to try this, already put a nook in my basket!
@@Mk-is4ss im so happy you’re going to give it a try. It changed my world. I hardly ever crochet now 😂
I like your method of doing the purl stitch better than the other way.
Oh my gosh! I have been trying to figure this out myself because knitting is ridiculously hard for my crochet brain. I tried a regular crochet hook and a tunisian hook but always ran into a problem! This makes me happy that there really is a way to do this:)
Just be warned you may never go back to crochet. I rarely do anything other than knooking now. I just wish it was more popular.
I knit and crochet. This seems hard to get
I ❤️knooking and your channel is explaining it the best. Emily, you can also do a twisted purl stitch : Working yarn in front but entering the hook from right to left like the knit stitch- easier for beginners, looks a tiny bit different but is still genuine knitting.🌸
@@IrisHammesfahr interesting. Does it not look weird from the front? This tutorial is quite old and I don’t purl like that anymore. I still put the hook in left to right but I don’t wrap the yarn I just lift it with my thumb and use the hook to pull it through. Much faster! I will try your technique too, see which I prefer.
@ It is not my technique 😊 I saw it in a German YT vid by a crafts teacher who showed it both ways- the difference is teeny small but the garter stitch back is divided in columns and looks good, too. I made a large 2,4 meter shoulder wrap like this and it looks good from both sides. I also realized that many knitting patterns call for a twisted purl stitch. 🌸
I just picked my knook hooks back up after not using them for a few years. Made myself a pair of mittens. Definitely easier to knit in the round 😊. You do the pearl stitch differently than I did. Will have to try that. Maybe my ribbing will be more elastic.
Great to hear! There needs to be more knookers in the world ❤️
Fabulous thank you!
With only a few stitches might seem ok but with a 100s of round sweater for example it is cumbersome to turn it and slide all over. A nice knitting with double pointed needles can not be surpassed.
@@nonamenoname2767 well in the round you don’t turn, so you just knit and knit and works just like circulars. I’d be scared of stabbing myself with DPNs 😂
@@emilysmith2784 ahaha no you dont stab yourself with doubles, you may even produce your own short long whatever thickness double needles from bamboo sticks sold everywhere, all you need is just a pencil sharpener. I will this in round since I could not understand how it would be in round I dont have a special hook like yours but may attach something in place
@nonamenoname2767 I stab myself with my doubles on the regular. I keep point protectors on the ends I'm not working off which helps. Though this is great for those who have issues with knitting with needles. You can knit sweaters and even socks in flat panels and seam them together.
@@crystald3655 the trick not to stab yourself with doubles is to pull the stitches on the needles to its tip at every turn. I would never knit something tubular into flats to join them later but again everybody has their own methods and needs. Happy knitting or knooting👍🏻
I finished a knooked sweater in four days ( worked Raglan in the round). Quick and easy. I learned knitting with two needles but never liked it.
I'm thinking of trying this. Thanks for the tutorial. 🙂🧶
Good luck. Let me know how it goes 🙂
Thanks 👍😊 alot!!!❤😊❤
thanks for this video! now I can 'knit' lol now how to do this left handed. I can't figure out how to make the video do a mirror flip so I can do it left handed, but eh I can't do it. my right hand is struggling lol when I try it left handed, what comes out is the front and back side alternate. its pretty I love it but I still want to be able to have a solid face and solid back side
I have actually been trying to do it left handed so I don’t have to purl 😂. Ill keep working on it and post if I have success.
@@emilysmith2784: I crochet left handed and do _most_ of my knitting right handed. I do a little left-handed knitting in situations where I don't want to turn around a big piece of work just to do two or three stitches and then turn the thing back again (like when making bobbles). You do have to watch out that your left-handed stitches don't end up worked "through the back of the loop" to use a knitting term. Once you are aware of this, it's easy to work around.
How clever
@@lightowl4345 thanks. It’s really easy though
Where do you find the hook? I’ve never seen one like that before
@@Bruiser89 I got those ones on amazon. Just search for knooking hook. I got a new set from Temu. Try Google if neither of those work for you.
Why not use a double pointed knitting needle more stable than that cord
@@darceyschultz2370 you could try that. I actually bought some interchangeable knooking hooks recently and they had a type of wire rather than cord and they hurt my forearms so much. I just don’t think my current mobility can handle anything stable. I need the flexibility of the cord but that’s one thing I do love about fibre crafts. There are sooo many options out there to really make the craft your own 🥰
Could you PLEASE do a video on how to add stitches in the middle of the work? I’m totally struggling with how to do this so the cord goes through these extra stitches
Sure. I will add it to my list 😊
Hi Lori, I have just uploaded a tutorial today on how to do increases, I show 3 different methods. I hope its helpful for you. ruclips.net/video/Dx-coNt5Ljo/видео.html
Had a discouraging attempt at knitting, so I might make this special hook out of wood and try knooking instead ^^
Also, since you're not moving the hook far enough backwards as in crochetting puffs, the flip-flop mechanism for repairing dropped stitches can be added aswell.
Good luck. I used wooden crochet hooks with holes drilled in them too, when I first started.
Hard to understand.
Sorry to hear that. I am happy to help, which part are you struggling with?
@@emilysmith2784 Don’t know if you can because it is the actual audio. It is hard to understand even with the headphones.
@@pelagiastachurska2855 yeah not much I can do about that. Have you tried watching with captions?
This is afghan crochet hook
@@perisun3572 they have lots of names 😊 It’s good to have another term to search for though.
This is so time consuming.. Traditional knitting is the preferred option for me
@@rosesimani I ‘knit’ just as fast as the traditional knitters in my knitting group 🤷♀️
Too fast
@@AmruthaT-m3u you can use the speed function to slow the video down if you need 😊
Too much work for nothing¡;!,,,,,!,,,!!,,
This is slow and tedious and in no way makes any sense. Knitting is fast and comfortable, just learn how to actually knit.
That’s your opinion. My experience is different, I tried knitting and it just didn’t work for me. I prefer this, it’s fine if you don’t but it not very nice to be completely dismissive of a craft because you don’t understand it.
I tried to knit for 10 years (off and on) and never could get the hang of it. Picked up crochet and it clicked right away. Then I found out about knooking. It is the best of both worlds for me. You said things that are obvousily true for you, but not necessarily for other people.
This is a tutorial so it’s slowed down. Knitting tutorials look just as tedious lol
I've been crocheting for a year. Then I learned tunisian crochet. Then I learned knitting. I personally will not continue to pursue knitting much further since its so slow and not worth it to me. I love exploring new ways of getting that look. Some people have different preferences and thats ok. Please learn that. Empathy is a great thing to have
Do you think you could use a cabled Tunisian hook with a nice flexible cable ?
