Hurricane lamps in recent years have been ignored by most campers. I really like the soft glow they produce and how well they preform in all weather conditions. My only complaint is that they do not transport well when still full of kerosene. I would like at some point determine how much fuel my lamp actually needs per hour when lit so I can just put enough fuel in it to last the night only. Yes the sounds we enjoy while at home although nice are not the sounds we need while in the outdoors. Nature has its own sounds, it does not need any help.
Hi Bazz, yes I agree that the good old hurricane has been overlooked and that's a shame as you can't beat that ambient soft orange glow. It brings a homely feel to wherever we may camp. Yes Bazz I noticed the lamps burn very little fuel over long periods, it goes on how much wick is visable I guess. But it's a great idea to actually work out how much fuel is burnt per hour and get exactly the right amount for one nights burn time... Find an old innertube from a bike or car, whatever, and cut circles that will just fit inside the fuel cap of your lantern. You'll have to take them out for use, but it should solve your travel problem...
For transport open the latern, and move the glass asside. Then remove the wick/burner /adjust device by turning. take a whine cork and isert into this opening of the petrol tank. Problem fixed.
Rain on a tent is music to me, One of my favorite things. I have an east facing door to a balcony in my bedroom which is always open all year because I love to watch and hear the rain and watch the sunrise, I need the connection to the outside.

I've done the solo camping thing many times and really enjoyed it, being at one and close to mother nature. Unfortunately, mother nature as said, enough is enough. When RUclips came along I thought it would be a good idea to start collecting cool names on channels so I have a book filled with about sixty or so with names like 'Literally Hitler' and things like that. so I have loads. I was posting a lot of vidioes back a few years mostly my songs and me talking about things but someone complained that it was just my opinions and I took down most of them but I left me songs and some other things I do that's on JUNKYARDOGvideos. Hi Martina, the pup tent is a favourite of mine, so very quick to erect and sounds strange but very homely. There to me is something extra special about canvas tents, I maybe more than a little crazy hahahaha! 😂 Thank you, yeah that netting is very useful on a stealth camp, I'd carry it more but it's so very bulky in my pack. I may get a compression sack for it to reduce it down. Hi Andy🖐🏻😊 Thank you mate..Yeah the pup tent is so very easy to put up, just button the two sides together, prop it up with pegs and poles...I use a taughtline hitch to tension the two guy ropes at either end. Yes mate it's so peaceful listening to the rain pitter patter on the tent or tarp isn't it. Thats funny because as i was watching this video i was wondering if you listen to the radio or watch things, play games on your phone. There's nothing on the Television so thought that I would look up the German Army Pup Tent as I have one that I have yet to use - enter it into RUclips search and who comes up - my new found Mucker, Black Country Woodsman. Loved the film, loved the editing and especially the music and will be searching for what was playing around the 40+ minute mark. TIP - on one half of one of my Pup tent/poncho pieces, some German soldier has taped the armhole with quite good duct tape on the inside so very difficult for water to get in now if lifting the side as you did. I think it a good idea to seal one and keep one open for air and/or sticking an Ammo Box Wood Burning Stove chimney through as I plan to do sometime in the future - time permitting. The problem of leaking throug the armeholes is solved easily by sewing them shut. on this okasion it is wise to sew also a loop on each side in center of the Zeltbahn. This is used to prevent sagging in and gives more space inside.

good video mate, i sometimes take my kindle when i go camping so i can read a book, the type of camping i do is not all that exciting so there can be long periods of time with nothing much to do. on my last camp i watched a film on my kindle. i would never bother with radios as i find all the pop music rubbish.

I love my hurricane lamp they give the warmest light so reassuring.
Hurricane lamps in recent years have been ignored by most campers. I really like the soft glow they produce and how well they preform in all weather conditions. My only complaint is that they do not transport well when still full of kerosene. I would like at some point determine how much fuel my lamp actually needs per hour when lit so I can just put enough fuel in it to last the night only. Yes the sounds we enjoy while at home although nice are not the sounds we need while in the outdoors. Nature has its own sounds, it does not need any help.
Hi Bazz, yes I agree that the good old hurricane has been overlooked and that's a shame as you can't beat that ambient soft orange glow. It brings a homely feel to wherever we may camp. Yes Bazz I noticed the lamps burn very little fuel over long periods, it goes on how much wick is visable I guess. But it's a great idea to actually work out how much fuel is burnt per hour and get exactly the right amount for one nights burn time... Agreed my friend, the sounds of nature are unbeatable by anything man produces.

Find an old innertube from a bike or car, whatever, and cut circles that will just fit inside the fuel cap of your lantern. You'll have to take them out for use, but it should solve your travel problem...
For transport open the latern, and move the glass asside. Then remove the wick/burner /adjust device by turning.
take a whine cork and isert into this opening of the petrol tank. Problem fixed.
Watching this has got me in the mood to get out this weekend, no kids and a new spot reccied and ready to go!
Rain on a tent is music to me, One of my favorite things. I have an east facing door to a balcony in my bedroom which is always open all year because I love to watch and hear the rain and watch the sunrise, I need the connection to the outside.

Hi' Mike Pol here [this is the channel for my band] I like to re watch your posts over on all my channels cos it gives you more views and likes, At the weekend I made the classic mistake of having my hurricane lamp sitting in my tent, not on, but I knocked it over and got lamp oil everywhere, But regardless of my foolishness I still love it way more than any other lighting device. Oh heheh! Yes I've done the exact same thing with my lamp too! Oh the stink and its so darn hard to clean the parafin/ lamp oil up isn't it mate. I agree it is the number one perfect ambient light for a wild camp, trouble is its just another largish kit item to have to carry in. Lovely soft orange glow, makes camp so homely.

When RUclips came along I thought it would be a good idea to start collecting cool names on channels so I have a book filled with about sixty or so with names like 'Literally Hitler' and things like that. so I have loads. I was posting a lot of vidioes back a few years mostly my songs and me talking about things but someone complained that it was just my opinions and I took down most of them but I left me songs and some other things I do that's on JUNKYARDOGvideos. I'm now kind of dithering over filming when I'm out because I don't just want to post the same type of video that everyone seems to post But I'll figure it out eventually All the best Mike.

A thoroughly enjoyable watch and listen Mike. Yes totally agree, all we need is nature's soundtrack and your woodland oasis was alive with the beautiful sounds of spring. At 13 mins 50 secs I was having a chuckle wondering what you were up to lol. Your sock sleeve for the meths is a great idea. Hi Martina, the pup tent is a favourite of mine, so very quick to erect and sounds strange but very homely. There to me is something extra special about canvas tents, I maybe more than a little crazy hahahaha! 😂
Thank you, yeah that netting is very useful on a stealth camp, I'd carry it more but it's so very bulky in my pack. I may get a compression sack for it to reduce it down. Lol I do tend to eat plenty when on camp especially in the colder months 👍🏻🤣👍🏻🍳🥓

Hi Andy🖐🏻😊 Thank you mate..Yeah the pup tent is so very easy to put up, just button the two sides together, prop it up with pegs and poles...I use a taughtline hitch to tension the two guy ropes at either end.

Thats funny because as i was watching this video i was wondering if you listen to the radio or watch things, play games on your phone. Im the same when im out i very rarely listen to the radio, never watch anything on my phone, wouldnt know how to other than youtube app. And defiantly not any games, all that crap gets turned off or on silent. loved the shelter, lots of room. Ah mate I knew you'd be the same as me👍🏻Agreed mate. Part of the reason for being out there is to get away from most modern day technologies. Yes mate the pup tent is very spacious, I've seen quite a few vids where people just take the one half/ poncho and use that to shelter under. Thing is in reality if there was a downpour I imagine with just one half up you'd struggle to keep dry.

There's nothing on the Television so thought that I would look up the German Army Pup Tent as I have one that I have yet to use - enter it into RUclips search and who comes up - my new found Mucker, Black Country Woodsman. Loved the film, loved the editing and especially the music and will be searching for what was playing around the 40+ minute mark. TIP - on one half of one of my Pup tent/poncho pieces, some German soldier has taped the armhole with quite good duct tape on the inside so very difficult for water to get in now if lifting the side as you did. I think it a good idea to seal one and keep one open for air and/or sticking an Ammo Box Wood Burning Stove chimney through as I plan to do sometime in the future - time permitting. Winter is fast approaching and too much to do with the animals and winterising stuff. Keep up the crusade Brother.

Ah the pup is fantastic isn't it👍🏻Hey that's one darn cool idea with the duct tape, I always carry some in my kit in case of an ember burning a hole in one of my tarps. Infact it's such a good idea I'm going to do very similar, I shall use camo gorilla tape and clear silicon sealant👍🏻Brilliant stuff mucka 👍🏻Thank you for sharing....Hey it's always great to hear from you and yup I have to catch up on your awesome channel. Been working long hours recently and when I start watching RUclips vids I get 5mins in and end up falling to sleep! Oh yeah those frontier stoves are really cool, but I personally shall use the candle lantern for heat. Surprising just how much a difference a candle can make isn't it my friend. I don't really feel the cold and I know for a fact if I had a wood burner in my tent I'd self combust Lol.

Hi, Thank you very much👍🏻😊....So easy and quick to put up the pup tent, yes the woods there are absolutely teeming with bird life. The camp location is right on the top of a hill but is luckily sheltered by bushes.
Ah the food, surprising how nice the dorrito sauce is to cook with...Just shove it all in one pan Lol! Enough there to feed two people tbh.

Great stuff mate. I know what you mean about no radios I like the complete escape of rat race. Giving wildlife a chance to not know I'm there. And I like my coffee too, but I cheat with coffee bags.

Hi, I just discovered your channel. I'm enjoying your videos very much. I completely agree with you about the music. If you are going to sit around with loud music blaring you might as well be back in the suburbs. I love the immersion in nature. That comes across really well in your videos.
Hi Allotta, exactly my friend...We go out there for peace and to listen to the wildlife and the breeze blowing through the tree tops. I personally hate pop music and I find it all part of the same intention, the intention to brainwash. But then there are folk that wild camp and like to have their music on quietly, I respect we are not all the same and it's quite often people that are new to wild camping that have a little music to calm the nerves...Main thing is we need to have LNT in common.

Wonderful location. You must have been chuffed with that. I mean entry was not easy meaning very little interest from outside - but inside ideal spot! I agree with the music. Ah Yes, we all have different preferences about music whilst out there, glad to hear you're the same my friend...Nature's our soundtrack👍🏻

The problem of leaking throug the armeholes is solved easily by sewing them shut.
on this okasion it is wise to sew also a loop on each side in center of the Zeltbahn.
This is used to prevent sagging in and gives more space inside.

Brilliant camp out Mike, it looked like you were floating when you did the 360 shot. What were you reading? Your chilli type meal looked amazing, can't beat a one pot cook up Mike. good video mate, i sometimes take my kindle when i go camping so i can read a book, the type of camping i do is not all that exciting so there can be long periods of time with nothing much to do. on my last camp i watched a film on my kindle. i would never bother with radios as i find all the pop music rubbish.
