At times I felt the Yankees should have let him go. I admit it. The injuries were too much for me. But I am glad they stuck with him. I don’t care that it took like 6 years. Just an amazing at bat. That ball was just about to break to the outside, where the catcher had shifted, and, he didn't miss it. Baseball is so great in these moments, the constant cat and mouse, the emotions. Give me a great baseball playoff game over any other sport.
I think he spotted the pitcher those first two strikes so the pitcher would want to pitch to him. No other explanation for those two hacks followed by great takes and a homerun. It was genius because you have to think that gaddis came into the at bat wanting nothing to do with Stanton and probably would've been ok with 4 pitches off the plate and then to face jazz. But once he got ahead 0-2, he didn't want to lose him so he gave him something to hit on 3-2.
