I'm from the area originally and when the Students of WVU are there it's great, in the doen town area, but as soon as the kids are gone on breaks and for the summer it's a totally different case. Gay bashes happen, drive by homophonic slurs are a regular thing Shops in town who show support with pride flags or symbols take them down until the students come back. It's like night and day.
I live an hour east of Morgantown. Garrett County, Maryland just had our first Pride ever. On June 15. Probably smaller than Morgantown but it was nicely attended and very positive. I’m a gay Christian and my church will have a table at Cumberland Pride next weekend.
I grew up in Preston Co in Masontown. I left when in started college and didn't look back until my mother needed cared for. The LGBTIA+ Community would exist if it weren't for WVU. When the kids are gone everyone else runs back into the closet.

No one is pushing it on kids... but it's important that kids DO know it's ok, if they're LGBTQIA+ and that they know their parents will still love them. There's far too high a number of kids dying by suicide because of their homophobic family.
@@Countryperson666 Some leftists may push it on the kids, in the schools and libraries especially, when kids should be learning Math, Science, Reading, Writing, Critical thinking. I'm also apart of the LGBTQ (Bi) and this is my opinion. IMO, I would put LGBTQ education in health class for 11th, maybe 12th grade (ages 17-18) which is when kids start developing more and are getting out to the real world (i.e.-Trade school, undergrad, etc.)
