So I don’t know if I qualified as a DTS fan. Initial fandom came from sim racing channels and esports. I did watch DTS to get caught up but I ended up with a F1TV like two months later to watch full races.
it is important to emphasise that fans who came into the sport from dts are different from 'dts fans'. i think old f1 fans can be really toxic about actual passionate fans who got into f1 from dts. there is no issue with fans who got into the sport from dts if they actually know f1 they know the teams they have knowledge from pre-2017 etc. however the 'dts fans' are the ones that know nothing and only care about max and the las vegas gp. not everyone is priveleged enough to have gotten into the sport from age 5 because their dad watched it in the '80s. but if the fans who want to become f1 fans start from dts, and end up being proper passionate fans like everyone else, it is very different to 'dts fans' that, to be fair, we all hate.
I was introduced to F1 by DTS. I still watch DTS every year its released, but I also watch every race, every quali, every practice session. I follow all the car launches, and keep up on all the drama. I know a lot about the sport, how push/pull rods work, aerodynamics and general knowledge. Im still a fan of DTS but i’m an F1 fan.
There's a fine line between gatekeeping your favorite sport as opposed to watching the 'fanbase' get ruined by shit people. Honestly, the amount of shit content being hashed by 'fans' on TikTok and other platforms in unreal. People that have no interest in any motorsport, let alone cars, engineering, etc are suddenly clinging onto this fake spectacle of F1. It's great that the sport has fans, we need fans. But I also wonder if the drivers all looked like NIkita Mazepin, would we have the same popularity.. lol
Exactly so well said, F1 is a motorpsport, and should be followed by petrol heads and car enthusiasts, now it’s just a bunch of bandwagonners from tiktok that don’t support the actual sport itself and the action, and instead support drivers and teams like it was football or another team sport 🤦♂️
I was introduced to f1 through dts a few years back but when I actually started watching f1 I abandoned dts because is was so cringe how it would dramatize everything and spin divers words to make it seem like there’s beef. Also the only fans more annoying than dts fans are f1 twt fans 🤮
I came in through DTS. I have since then learnt basically eveything there is to learn about the sport. I look the same on DTS fans as "OG" F1 fans do, but I do think most people after actually watching races, interviews etc try to learn, like I did.
I think the reality is a lot of people that came from Drive to survive are just not wanting to learn and as someone that’s been watching Formula One my entire life anytime I meet someone that’s new to watching from Drive to survive I have a tendency to ask them who their favourite drivers are, and fill them in on things from that drivers past, and their career that they would not be aware of. I find that the ones that genuinely want to learn and are invested and interested in learning, the sport are the good fansand that expanding the fan through people that are interested and want to learn and grow with the sport is perfectly fine I just don’t personally at all like the ones that are so ignorant that they don’t understand anything and don’t wanna learn
I’ve always seen the problem as new dts fans seem to think the sport is a drama/reality show for Netflix when it is a dangerous sport that is all about cars, not drama

I've wanted to get into F1 but had difficulty knowing where to start. Then I saw DTS come out and I was like wow finally something that helps me get familiar with F1. I thought it would be a summary of the race and some drama. But when I started watching I was like why tf are they switching from team to team and skipping the entire race? It made me even more confused, so I hated it even more. Now I watch DTS on a pirate site and just laugh at how they make everything drama. Also, that weird interviewing guy, states the most obvious thing imaginable ie. if you start at the top it's easier to win. Like no fucking shit Sherlock.
the problem is that "DTS fans" stick to DTS, they don't try to learn about anything besides the DTS drama,,,
right, they’re DTS fans not f1 fans
