- The Pilot gets a new trim for 2021 from Honda. Under the hood is the tried and true 3.5L V6 that produces 280HP & mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. On the outside the Special Edition brings blacked out trim to the grill, wheels, side sills and rear bumper. On the inside there is a ton of technology and well laid out interior. Honda likes to bring out an “SE” edition occasionally to satisfy everyone’s budget. Twenty years ago I had an Accord SE. Most trouble-free car I’ve owned. Thanks Joe, nice job! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸

Just purchased this model 2 weeks ago. This trim was perfect for me. Went with the dark gray. I absolutely love it. Coming from a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. It’s so easy to drive, Everything has a button, very smooth with a great turn radius. Only complaint would probably be the operating system. Jeep/Chrysler has them beat there I’d say.
Why would you ditch the new Jeep for this?
mct8888 my lease was about to end. The little Jeep served me well. I was looking to buy this time and I knew I wanted something with a straight v6. I also needed a bit more interior space. I’m happy with the pilot for sure.
@@GirthGod congrats! I have a Jeep WK2 and if it weren’t for Honda arm-rests, I would have purchased a Pilot or Passport by now.
We bought 2006 Pilot and had no issues whatsoever. Gave the car to our nephew and figured we upgrade to a fancier car. Ended up with 2021 Pilot SE AWD and LOVE it even more! Be safe everyone.

The Pilot was a SE with the face lifted first gen 2006 to 2008, I was so excited to see Honda bring the SE trim back
Just bought a used 2021 Honda Pilot EX-L SE AWD with 51k miles. So far I love it, larger V6 engine. Not a fan of the radio, needs a tuning knob too.

My wife couldn't find a replacement for her totaled Highlander, so she ended up with a Pilot SE. It's great. We love it. AND, much more room than the Highlander. My uncle as well, just got a Sport trim and he loves it.

I had been looking at an Edge, Nautilus and Explorer to replace our CR-V. None really fit the bill so I started looking at the Highlander (I owned a 2016 XLE a few years back) and Pilot. That led me to this video and we now own a used 2021 Pilot SE as of tonight. Really happy with the ride quality.

@@izzycontreras4357overall still happy with it. I wish we would have gone with AWD. Not a fan of the push button transmission. Ride quality is good and so is driving.
We just leased this pilot, I really do love it and now I know a bit more about it makes me love even more

If it's speed you want on the side because you recently owned a sports car or something fast and you have to migrate to family SUV but don't want to spend lots and lots of money. Honda Pilot is pretty good and because in some cases and certain conditions there is 60 happens in 6.2 seconds... Highlander 7.0
I'd say the Toyota Highlander for more style and much updated modern interior. Drives very nice also. The pilot is simpler and..... The arm rests are tempting. The Highlander is uncomfortable on the arms dinner my elbows don't reach the door rest and center... The Highlander for me passes as an adorable luxury. ,(Though I haven't driven the pilot)

Another great video Joe! The Pilot is nice but the interior needs a refresh. I have a 2019 CR-V and the infotainment Center is very laggy. It even freezes up if you go to fast pushing buttons. I’m loving the Telluride!
If I wanted a minivan, I would get an odyssey…. So why did they start making Pilots looking like minivans? Bring back the traditional SUV look. I’ve owned a 2007 and 2009 and loved the more squared body

Even though the Telluride is a very good looking SUV with lots of technologie, as a car journalist/RUclipsr you should give rational advice and not recommend the Telluride until they fix these problems. But still love you.

I wasn’t expecting 0to60 in 6.2. That’s honestly really good
There was a test on a passport where the 0-60 dropped after 6 months of usage to 5.x. LOL. Happy passport owner here. I might've preferred a passport for overall resellability.
Also, the pilot's spare tire is mounted outside, while passports is mounted insdie.
@@bluewker maybe like an engine Breakin period thing? Sure Honda knows what they are doing because they makes the worlds most reliable engines.
Agree on the chrome accents around the windows. They should have kept it with the matte or gloss black.

I love this guy! This is the best value midsize suv and you can get a discount and not pay over msrp like the palisade or telluride. I cant justify the 8k difference.

Yesterday we bought the exact some car the same color and interior and its really impressive i recommend buying.
For the past 20 years I have brought 4 different Honda and still have 2 of them, the only cretics I like to do is they have been very slow in electrification of their cars and in Canada their Accord is not AWD unlike Toyota their Camry is AWD, OTHERWISE very safe and reliable cars

I have the 2021 Subaru Ascent. Love the 277 ft-lbs of torque at 2,000 rpms. Second row captains chairs are really nice. Dashboard layout and appearance is very nice also. The body styling is awesome.

I like FT. Lauderdale. Was down their in 2017 on a job assignment during Hurricane Irma. That area has alot of nice high end luxury and exotic fast cars.

I upgraded to this from a 2011 Pilot EX. I like this vehicle for its ride and power, but here in SW Fla the AC is not strong enough. I'm at 20k miles and its been to the dealer for AC repairs to fix an O-ring. Does not cool well above 90 degrees. Takes miles to cool the car off. I'm going back to the dealer, but I think it's a factory design flaw. Yes the armrests suck and that auto-stop feature is a major nuisance after 6 months of driving this SUV. Otherwise its a great vehicle. 🙂

I believe that Special Edition trims come out on the last model year of its generation. Honda should be coming out with a new generation for the 2022 model year. I could be wrong, it's a pattern I've noticed on the Accords since the Mid Late 90's.
Usually when Honda have SE (Special Edition) meaning next year will be a redesign. I am assuming 2022 will be redesigned!

Cool car, but the Honda Accord infotainment is way better than all updated honda's. Just some hard buttons and only a volume knob. Where's my tuning knob?
It used to be rugged, now it’s a lifted up mini van 😭 still looks good though.

Looked at this and a highlander I have to admit it's more functional. Better cargo space for what I'd need to haul. But can't handle the looks. Although I have to admit this color does something for the style.
Thanks to you I checked out the Kia line and discovered the soon to come to America, Carnival, and that is EXACTLY what I'm looking for.

Great review Joe! So the SE edition doesn't have DVD Entertainment system? 🤔 l just find the SE edition is missing options. l do like the color and black 20" inch rims. Overall I don't think it's worth the price, definitely the redesign needs to come sooner than later.

I love my 2021 pilot BE, style a little outdated but it looks sporty more features center infotainment for kids safety features, i choose this over Highlander 2021 Xle .

I bought this exact color and model except I got the AWD version. The only Zonk I have is MPG, I averaged 19mpg the first 1000 miles and I baby the car, NEVER get over 3000 rpm. And the last 1000 miles I have driven almost all highway and I'm only at 21.1mpg. The first fill up the range said 408 miles, the 2nd fill up the range was down to 360. Has never been over 360 since. So I'd say the mpg on these is a bit worse than stated. Also I'm thinking about having the black edition interior swapped in because the grey interior just kind of throws it off to me. Should have went with Black interior for sure.
Bought my wife a 2021 Black Edition Pilot this past Wednesday. I try to steal it to drive to work everyday now. I keep getting in trouble.
Very nice 2001 Honda pilot. They have a lot of features on the inside Japanese always mix the best car SUV. I like it a whole lot.

Nobody wants their twinkle smashed too. To the car, for $40K it's good for everything you get. The only thing missing from the Touring would be the Nav, RES, full LED headlights, better audio system too I think which is around $45K. You do get blacked out items with the SE though which would be extra. The SE isn't that much more then the EX-L too so we'll worth it on my opinion. The standard LED headlight projectors are pretty nice though and tbh probably better then the reflector LEDs if the higher trims.
Also Joe, the special editions are not meant to replace the touring or elite trims so you expect high end items like ventilated seats at $40K. This isn't Kia or Hyundai 😊.
Hey Raiti, if the Pilot has idle stop can it be turned off/ disabled? Oh, and as much as you love your snax maybe you should consider doing a review of top rated car vacs. I'll trust your opinion over their ads any day.😄

Had to take mine in twice since I got it, 1st time was for breaks, 2nd time the driver side mirror was loose and it seems to be a common problem.
I looked at the Toyota highlander and I like the pilot better. Also the pilot has been fine, just the 2 minor issues. Also don't care for the armrest on the front seats.
Usually when Honda releases a special edition. The following year the vehicle gets a refresh or redesign ... right?

For the brand? Yes. But the exterior styling? Gotta lean toward the Telluride. And definitely the Durango.

Hey, there is an cigarette lighter port in the 3rd row on the left side. So you can buy the lighter port that has 1 or 2 USB to plug in it. I bought a lighter port from dollar tree that has 2 USB in 1. And the kids and I looooove it!!! No arguments here. 🤗
