the little animal on the card is actually a groundhog. they live underground, and every February 2nd, they predict the weather. lol. the legend says, if the groundhog sees its shadow, it will run back in it's burrow, and we will have 6 more weeks of winter. So happy Kylo got some goodies, too. Can't wait to see what Atlanta will cook up with her new gear 😃 ps. For reference, shortening is essentially unflavored margarine (vegetable oil made solid). It's very inexpensive and contains trans fats (really not good for you). I use it to grease baking pans rather than as an ingredient. Also a "stick" of fat is 1/2 cup, 1/4 pound, or just under 125 grams
They have vegetable shortening in New Zealand. What she said is that they don't have Crisco brand and what they have (shortening or butter) doesn't come in "sticks."

A tip for rice crispy treats...I've been making them for years & if you follow the recipe,they're a bit hard. I always double it but I use about 10 cups of the rice crispiest,6 tbsp of butter & 2 regular size bags of mini marshmallows...in my opinion,they're much softer & chewier that way.

Atlanta in the US, just an FYI, we use the Glass measuring Cups for Liquid measurements and the little colored measuring cups you got in this video are to measure Dry ingredients(flour,sugar, brown sugar, etc). I didn’t know if anyone had told you but if you use the correct measuring devices for US recipes they will turn out right. I love that you are learning so many fun new skills. You’ll never have a burnt cookie bottom again! I actually keep mine in the cookie sheets and store them that way. I only use my cookie sheets for baking cookies and no other kinds of baking/cooking so they look as new as the day that I got them many years ago. I’m excited for you to try the recipes sent to you. Cookie day is before Christmas when grandmas, moms, daughters and granddaughters get together at the house with the biggest kitchen and make dozens and dozens of Christmas cookies for families and friends. It is so much fun but beware of granddads, dads, sons and grandsons. They get really sneaky around cookie day.
Yes. Here in Louisiana we have cookie day. Just pick a day in December before Christmas to get together with friends and family and each make their favorite cookie recipes. We also like to make cookie bags to pass out to the homeless and the elderly.

Rice Krispie treats are great with peanut butter baking chips stirred in. Just peanut butter as it is will not blend, but the chips do.

What a great box of gifts that you received! Such a generous gift. I was super excited to see the silicone baking mats as they are the BEST ever for making cookies. You’ll never have a burnt cookie bottom again! I actually keep mine in the cookie sheets and store them that way. I only use my cookie sheets for baking cookies and no other kinds of baking/cooking so they look as new as the day that I got them many years ago. I’m excited for you to try the recipes sent to you. Cookie day is before Christmas when grandmas, moms, daughters and granddaughters get together at the house with the biggest kitchen and make dozens and dozens of Christmas cookies for families and friends. It is so much fun but beware of granddads, dads, sons and grandsons. They get really sneaky around cookie day.
Yes. Here in Louisiana we have cookie day. Just pick a day in December before Christmas to get together with friends and family and each make their favorite cookie recipes. We also like to make cookie bags to pass out to the homeless and the elderly.
We also pick a cookie day, except that for us it's more like cookie week.
