Slade’s obsession with bothering teenagers needs to be studied
preferably from a watchlist
At least it's not comic slade, mf went way way off the deep end by Judas contract.
In the comics, his vendetta against them is more of a personal one, because they accidentally killed his son. He is still a p*dophile, though.
It gets even worse, the comics have confirmed that it’s canon that he’s a pedophile. And it’s heavily implied that he sexually abused Terra by enticing her into bed with him and willfully committing statutory rape despite knowing full well that she was a child and him basically grooming her which explains so much about how he had such a hold on her to get her to betray The Titans to begin with. Knowing that makes me wonder in hindsight given his obsession with Robin. It may strongly suggest that his disturbed lust for minors swings both ways regardless of gender. It reminds me of something someone told me a while back that Robin’s relationship with Slade and abuse at his hands is eerily reminiscent of underaged male victims of grooming by older men. But it’s really no surprise that someone is twisted as Slade is basically someone who should not be around minors to begin with. And it was in this episode Birthmark where a lot of the subtext really begins to bubble to the surface of what’s been being implied all along in just the way that Slade speaks to Raven throughout the episode, The sicko sounds like he’s getting off on it and that sounds completely consistent with his disturbed character given the other examples I just mentioned.
Dude a pedo goddamn 2000-era cartoons ain't hold back@@limelightraver5690
"Birthmark" was such an iconic episode. Raven's season was always the greatest to me.
My fav season tooo
Same. It's my favorite by far out of all the seasons.
Yeah. I think most can agree that season 4 is the best in the show 😂

Love how robin returns from his training to see all of them dressed as him and the first thing man does is go “ you know, robins” 😭
I wish I had that level of chill
Slade returns from the dead to immediately be a creep again. Other than that he's extremely badass here
The writers of Teen Titans straight up sat down and went “How close can we push this guy to being a straight up child predator without Cartoon Network realising”
He is the childhood menace😂

That scene of him holding Raven at the top of that tower looks like something else an an adult
Slade comes, immediately chases and undresses a teenaged girl, refuses to elaborate further, leaves. Yeah, that tracks.
Cartoon Network censors must've been asleep or bribed or something, the fact they managed to let that slide when they didn't even want to call him Deathstroke because of the death in his name is unbelievable.
"the dont even mention batman" because legally, they couldn't. WB and DC have this really stupid policy that if one character exists in one show, they cannot appear in another show in any shape or form "so the audience doesn't get confused".
So while Teen Titans had robin, no other show or movie could use him. If Batman is being used in one show (in this case the 2004 The Batman cartoon), then he cant be used elsewhere until the show is done.
Known as "The Bat Embargo"
Which was the rule they broke anyways. I know Teen Titans is the whole alternative universe, but they had Killer Moth while Batman 2004 was airing at the same time and had Killer Moth too, the only differences were the designs and roles.
@@stingerbrgI keep forgetting thats what they called it
@@ashesGeekKiller Moth only appeared because Teen Titans ended by the time that episode premiered.
@@anansidragon6132 Ahh, yeah, my bad. I thought Killer Moth appeared in 2005 but not half a year after Teen Titans ended
The episode where all the Titans dress like Robin really showcases the adoration each of them have for him. Leadership aside, Robin has been a legacy hero within DC for a long time so it’s only natural for younger Heroes to look up to him too
Yeah, assuming Grayson is 16 in here, he has like 7 years on the rest of them as a superhero. That’s crazy to think about.
@@vashtinayagar1325and it’s the same in young justice too! He started off as Robin at age 9 in YJ and was 13/14 in the first season- despite being the youngest, he’d been a sidekick the longest
@@devineggins4 I do that YJ showcases that pretty well tho. In the first season he was probably the most capable member of the team other than Aqualad. In that episode with Artemis in the cave when they were being attacked, he was the one who stayed calm and made a plan and in the episode where they lost their memory, he dealt with his adversaries much faster than the rest of the team, who had to run away.
The scene where Slade starts ripping off Raven's clothes is just...ughhhh. Honestly I'm impressed with how much they were able to get away with. They referenced the disturbing aspects in the comics without making it too obvious.
Yea. Seeing that scene now as an adult just makes me feel more disgusted 😰
@@firemiracle in other words they made the villain pretty well!
I’ll be frank; it NEVER occured to me what was being implied when I watched it as a kid. Sure I was a pretty oblivious kid, but it’s still amazing I never got an inkling
soft asf, all of you
Yeah, even as a kid, long before I had any idea what sexual assault was, I watched that and thought “okay, this is VERY wrong”
"Ever had one of those days where you just feel happy to be alive?"
Yes and the opposite
Season 4 is my favorite season of Teen Titans. Raven-focused, Slade has never been more menacing, and the stakes are high!
Edit: I just remembered that this powered-up version of Slade is supposedly still one of the weakest versions of him. I don’t remember everything about Deathstroke in the comics, but I remember hearing how much more upgrades he got that make this already powered-up version weaker by comparison, which is insane.
I just think that is how things go in terms of power hierarchy with different versions of heroes and villains. Comic > Animated shows > Live Action. It has to do with what is entertaining and what is feasible to animate or create using special effects / CGI.
I mean, Superman in the comics is basically a god who can do anything and everything. Superman in the animated series, justice league, and justice league unlimited is still incredibly powerful, but mostly just shows incredible strength. And then you have DC movies right now, which is just... meh.
Not sure where you got that idea as this version of Slade is actually pretty high up there considering this show is based on the original New Teen Titans. The modifications Slade got in the original comics made him pretty much immortal and put him on the low end of superhuman. That’s the strongest version of Slade. The version of Slade here in Teen Titans when he’s got the full power set is actually immortal and is probably the second strongest version. Modern Slade is pretty much all tech and skill with no actual powers, his enhancements are minor compared to the original and basically buff his suit more than him. If you took original Slade’s suit away nothing would change he’d be just as hard to kill. If you took modern Slade’s suit away he’d be fucked
In terms of sheer power, this Slade outclasses any and all Deathstrokes I've seen. Heck, Slade before his resurrection was aiming a lot higher than Deathstroke usually aims, since he's usually just in it for the money as a merc or for personal vengeance. Good fighter with good equipment and light healing factor, but Deathstroke isn't even close to the silver tier of powerhouse villains normally. More than mortal, but not by much in a world with people who can casually atomize entire buildings.
THIS is why you don't kill your villains. The only thing worse than Slade is fire-blasting zombie Slade.
Lol true
Damn, I can’t believe Control Freak just spoiled Buzz’s backstory in Toy Story 2 like that. 😔
Reactors who actually compensate for missing a week?
I am shook. Thank you.
Another reason that they're one of the best. (And deserve WAY more subs than they got)
Ohhhh that makes sense now. Sweet. 👊🏼
Oh it’s not that we’re just uploading Teen Titans bi-weekly with 4 eps now instead of weekly with 2 😁
@@sortastupid
Oh.
So now I gotta wait another 2 weeks for the next batch.
Oh Billy. 😭
@@wcdchannel guess they might alternate between this and Scooby doo 4 at a time...
Yall need to see Superman vs the elite movie so yall get to see how dc combats the whole “heroes should kill people” argument (also I love control freak as an villain and character)
I swear to god it’s like every ten years DC needs to release another story about why superheroes just killing their enemies is a dumb idea. Kingdom Come, What’s So Funny About Truth Justice and the American Way?, Underworlds Unleashed, etc.
Because they'll keep teaching the message when people don't underrstand. They'll teach it as many times as they have to.
And then they'll teach it another 10+ times if current trends continue with event, plotline, and title rehashing continue.
Slade returns from the dead and proceeds to be by far one of the creepiest MF’s ever. Also this season I never understood when I was growing up, but now this by far one of if not my favorite season of the show
Say hello to Slade now literally on demon time and more teen titan trauma
Also I love the bit of them all wearing Robin's outfit it's great

not the heroes responsibility, its the justice system's responsibility to do that stuff if its needed.
Like with Gotham City, people like to blame Bruce for not killing his villains, ensuring that they'll eventually escape... But not really, its the justice system's job to do this, to decide if they should be imprisoned or face the death penalty.
You forget that heroes, especially publicly residing ones like the Teen Titans, are not above the law. Its not their decision to decide what their punishment should be, it's the justice systems
I feel like people forget this so much. Also I recall Bruce mentioning before that he himself knows if he kills one villain he will literally not stop at one and go for killing even the common thief. Like he knows what will happen if he kills one so he doesn’t.
Yeah, if a cop arrested a serial killer, you wouldn’t blame that cop because the justice system didn’t decide to execute or otherwise properly punish the killer.
That’s a poor excuse because Heroes have no responsibility. No one says they have to fight crime, they’re vigilantes they already don’t follow the rules
The problem with Gotham and Batman is that the creators of Batman along with DC’s Editor in Chief realised after 12 issues of the Joker killing people and getting away without repercussions made Batman and the police look incompetent. So they introduced a rule that said Recurring Villains are NOT allowed to kill people, ONLY one off Villains can kill people. This way one off Villains could be executed or sent to prison and never seen again, while recurring Villains could be sent to prison and eventually reformed. Something Batman used to actually be known for was helping cure and reform his villains, which is why he never killed any of them because they had never crossed that line and had the potential to turn their lives around
This lasted for several decades until a writer and artist came along that decided to break that rule and turn Joker back into a murderer. The writer and the artist were quickly chewed out by Bill and Bob who were not happy that a problem they solved decades ago had been recreated. They warned the writer who was about to do a Joker solo series that he was absolutely not allowed to let the Joker kill anyone in his solo series
Unfortunately these two breaking the rule started a chain reaction that lead to the rule about recurring Villains not being allowed to kill people getting twisted and warped into Batman isn’t allowed to kill people, which was never a rule. The only rule Batman ever had was no guns. Both Batman and Superman were prepared to kill if necessary in the original comics. Superman even used to train with guns and swords in case he lost his powers and needed to defend himself
The whole point of that original rule was you cannot have a broken system where killers regularly escape and run free because it makes the police look incompetent for not being able to catch them, the justice system incompetent for being unable to punish them, and the heroes incompetent for allowing this broken system to continue
Over the years a number of writers have tried to rectify the problem by introducing concepts like Arkham where oh the villains are all insane so they can’t go to prison or be given the death penalty. Along with expanding on Joker’s insanity so that he’s unfit to stand trial. However none of these solve the actual problem of making Batman and the police look incompetent
@@ShinoriDelfrimThat was an excuse created by modern writers to allow them to keep breaking the rules set in place by the creators of Batman. Bruce never had a problem with killing or a rule against it he had a rule against using guns
The no killing rule was never for Bruce it was for recurring villains like the Joker. Bill, Bob, and DC’s Editor in Chief realised after 12 issues with the Joker, having recurring Villains kill and then return 2 issues later made Batman and the police look incompetent. So they created a rule that said recurring Villains are NOT allowed to kill ONLY one off villains can kill. This way recurring villains could return, and eventually with Batman’s help be cured and rehabilitated, while one off villains could be killed or sent to prison and never seen again
After several decades writers and artists began breaking this rule with the first two to do so getting chewed out by Bill and Bob for doing so. Eventually the rule was broken so much it got warped and twisted into Batman isn’t allowed to kill people which was never a rule, Batman was always prepared to kill as a last resort. Even Superman used to train regularly with guns and swords in case he lost his powers and needed to defend himself
@@TheJjcczz while you do bring up some points, you're forgetting the importance of heroes maintaining their moral codes and setting positive examples for society. While it's true that heroes may operate outside the strict confines of the law, many of them adhere to personal moral codes that guide their actions. For instance, Batman's no-kill rule stems from his profound belief in the value of human life, even the lives of his enemies. It's not merely about following rules; it's about upholding certain moral principles that define who these heroes are and the messages they convey to the world. By refraining from lethal force, heroes like Batman set an example for others to follow, promoting the idea that even the most heinous individuals deserve a chance at redemption or rehabilitation. Furthermore, allowing heroes to kill villains risks escalating violence and undermining the role of the justice system. Ultimately, maintaining these moral codes adds depth to the characters and their struggles, exploring themes of redemption, justice, and the complexity of human nature within the narrative.
The raven episode was definitely an allegory to SA and how it can leave scars both mental and physical
You know we're dealing with someone VERY bad if Slade calls them "Master."
Now I understand why even the Justice League considers Slade a Threat.
Now We Add Child Predator charges to your List... Again
Censors at CN must've been asleep to have allowed Slade stripping Raven to get aired on a kids tv show and pre-watershed.
Slade shows up anywhere "TIME TO STALK A TEENAGER"
Bro what???? I never made that connection between Dr Light at the beginning of the episode to the prophecy at the end????? That's so cool!
Starfire, Raven, and Stephanie Brown in the comics really do prove that the Robin costume just looks better on women 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah but we're comparing them to the literal 9 year old boys who wore the costume. You can't tell me Nightwing Dick Grayson wouldn't outshine all of them wearing a Robin costume again.

Has Control Freak even killed anyone in the show? Powerscale aside, I always took him as a threat comparable to the Cluemaster, being more a goofy annoyance than a life-threatening menace.
I'm like 70% sure that it's cannon in universe that control freak got the original teen titans cartoon cancelled so if you really think about it he has the highest kill count out of any villain in the show.
He’s basically the human version of a 5th dimensional being ( Mr. Mxyplx, Batmite, and that Chibi Robin)
Control Freak is the strongest person in the entire show, and he uses that power to be an annoying dork. Gotta respect it.
No which makes their argument not make sense. It's like advocating for killing Mad Mod or Mumbo.
@@Gerald-Slayers it's not why it got "canceled", they stopped the show because there where more girls watching it than boys with the test screenings/surveys

It’s amazing how much went over my head watching this show as a kid at what was being implied about Slade all along. The comics have confirmed that it’s canon that he’s a pedophile. And it’s heavily implied that he sexually abused Tarra by enticing her into bed with him and willfully committing statutory rape despite knowing full well that she was a child and him basically grooming her which explains so much about how he had such a hold on her to get her to betray The Titans to begin with. And it was in this episode Birthmark where a lot of the subtext really begins to bubble to the surface of what’s been being implied all along in just the way that Slade speaks to Raven throughout the episode, The sadistic sex offender sicko sounds like he’s actually getting off on it and the trauma he deliberately inflicts on her while literally ripping her freaking clothes off and that sounds completely consistent with his disturbed character given the other examples I just mentioned.
I love how robin has a crop top version of his uniform just around his closet 😆😅
I think it's just because Starfire is taller than him and has a chest that it looks like a crop top on her.
Slade is back, back again. And he’s a firebender, haha!

I'd say it's more like Justice League Unlimited and TMNT 2012 is actually exactly like Teen Titans since it was made by guys who took part in writing 2003 show
@@ashesGeek if you actually watched both shows you would see the tone is the same. They also came out at the same time so makes sense why they are similar.
Yall are finally gonna see the best super hero arc ever with Ravens storyline.
"The heroes need to kill the bad guys instead of sending them to jail"
Could make a comment about the real world here.
I am a believer that thinks the death penalty and electric chair should be brought back
The problem with heroes killing is they get to decide what you deserve to die for. So you could jaywalk and be turned into a smear.
Heroes killing always sounds appealing until you think about it logically for less than a minute.
Yeah they were saying that for Control Freak. A villain that hasn't killed anyone. So it makes their argument worse since he's one of the least malleolus villains that the Teen Titans have faced.
The justice lords. "Mom and dad would be so proud"
@@cpob2013 My favorite version of a hero turning evil. I like that it wasn't just Luthor killing the flash. It was Luthor almost bringing World War 3 and Luthor saying that they can lock him up all they want he'll find a way to get out and do it over again.

They haven't gotten to Trigon yet, and Slade is only using Trigon.
20:20 this plot with them dressing as Robin is so Teen Titans Go like, 🤣👏💚
Oh here we go! The Raven centric episode! I honestly loved Season 4 the most
Take away the times when Slade's being creepy, he's a total badass villain
My elementary school still did sock hops when I was a kid, and I’m just twenty two. It’s probably still a thing in some schools today.
13:37 It is not George Takei haha. It's actually Keone Young who voices Jeong Jeong in Avatar the Last Airbender!
Also the True Master is voiced by Takayo Fischer who had voiced Li and Lo (the twin old fire nation advisors) from ATLA as well. It's so cool hearing them in the same episode!
Idk which version of Slade is the original one, but I've heard two things.
One is a Slade where the reason why he's obsessed with the Titans is because in the comics he had a son. His son had been on a contract where i think he had to kill the Titans & be it indirectly or directly Slades son died so out of a mix of revenge along with completing his son's contract he goes after the Titans.
The other is the more darker one where he's apparently into minors amongst other reasons that he goes after them so much.
It makes sense that they didn't start the season off with Birthmark, I mean, imagine if you got THAT kind of start into the season and THEN had the two sillier episodes Don't Touch That Dial and The Quest after it, people would've been furious XD like "Raven literally just learned that she's going to destroy the world soon, WHY is she just chilling dressed up as Robin with the others??" fcgvhbj
"What the fuck is this episode?" Art. This episode is art.
💙🧡💜 Oi Ruff! Appreciated the OP reference, my guy. Also, happy belated birthday, Bree.🎂🎊
FINALLY this is my favorite season I’m so excited to see y’all react to it
One of the funniest things in the TV episode, when they're looking at the channel guide and most of the entries are "Nothing". As in "Nothing's on TV"
This is the first time I am watching Teen Titans (besides one episode as a kid)
Season 4 and 5 are my favorite, 5 because its Beast Boy's and he was always my favorite as a kid
Also, Cyborg getting to fight in a sword-and-sandals fantasy setting is definitely one of my favorite episodes.
Oh yeah the theme song goes hard as fuck. It was so hard it got the artist, Puffy AmiYumi, their *own show* on CN. It didn't last long, only running from 2004 to 2006, but it was a pretty fun, inoffensive comedy starring two fictionalized versions of the singers Ami and Yumi.
Just imagine what it must have been like for kids in the 2000's who saw that Control Freak episode for the first time on their TV.
To be fair, if Raven didn’t want her birthday known, she shouldn’t have put it on the computer. It wasn’t written down anywhere else 😂
Obviously she didn’t but Batman has intel on everybody so I’m not suprised
the Old Master is voiced by Takayo Fischer, the same woman who voiced the creepy old twins Lo and Li in Avatar
37:35 Remember those hilariously stupid theories about an XBox Infinity capable of making you lunch? 😂
Deathstroke has pretty much come back as a Hellspawn.
The TV episode seems to be a reference to the finale of Shocker.
Like I said, "Deathstroke was dead… for now"
Raven,Shego and Azula and not necessarily in that order
erik’s face with that thumbnail is so funny 😂
The Bear and Snake is voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I’m not sure if I understand how the t.v. episode worked. The Titans were inside the t.v. signal but people on the program behave as if the Titans were really there.
And Robin is surprisingly cool with the others ruining his uniforms. Starfire looks like she alternated it to suit her tastes and Cyborg stretched it out.
This training master thing makes me realize, you all should binge tmnt 2003 cause it would be a whirlwind
To his credit, Robin always knows where the hard cam is, but I still laugh hard at Beast Boy using Raven's cape for a Jedi Mind Trick...against droids...though Cyborg's story with Sarasim did end too abruptly, proper rug pull that.
But on to our overarching plot of the season, literally not even the cold grasp of death has stopped Slade from terrorizing children.
I think you guys would definitely get a kick out of watching the old CW show Xhaolin showdown
Slade needs to be on a certain registry for sure.
(15:58) are you kidding me? They haven't mentioned Aquaman or Green Arrow once.

Slade is an absolute menace
Aw man I really wanted to see your guys reaction to the iconic line from Raven "Evil beware we have waffles"

Love how people are asking to watch Teen Titans Go, cuz that would be SO awesome 🙌🙌
This season was also amazing possibly the best
18:00 NOT YALL TOO LOL 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You really need to see Superman vs The Elite
Man I used to watch the TV guide scroll and slowly show each showing/channel a lot just so I can see if anything interesting was comping up within the next hour and a half, and just looking away even for a second could mean you'd have to wait for it to get all the way back to the channels you wanted to see. I think it was around 2nd or 3rd grade that my family got direct TV and that was a godsend in itself lol.

Also for age clarification, I will be 29 later this summer.
4 EPs WOW
10:49 ohh this moment!!! 🤣🤣💜💚
Season 4 is just the vibe at its best.
I'm glad they started it with rather silly episode rather that season plot focused one. Control Freak is the most hilarious villian in the show. I know people want more serious, edgy and tragic villians, but I think DC needs some of less threatening ones. Like, sure Control Freak may be seen as sore loser and wimp, but he's hilarious once he gets power of television. "Zinthos" social commercial is still one of most unexpected and funniest gags in the whole show.
Other Titans dressed as Robin is gold, enough said. Something we didn't asked for, but something we actually needed. Thank you, Mr.Murakami.
Despite how simple Slade may be seen, I think he's one of the creepiest villians in DC. Like, Scarecrow is supposed to be a Boogeyman, but Slade tops this dusty sandbag in that category. Plus Ron Pearlman's just adds a ton to character's intimidation. "Oh, and a happy birthday!" sounded so creepy yet funny I'm actually feeling hurt how to like this line.
Also, huge shotout to showrunners to make rape scene as non-obvious as the censorship would let slip it through.
Birthmark is legit one of the best episodes of the whole show
Earliest I've been to an upload. You're always fun to watch :)
Let's go! One of the best arcs in the show.
"Sixty people drowned that day" 😂
For the record, Deathstroke (Slade in the comics) canonically slept with a teenager. So yeah, if he comes across like a predator in this show, that's no accident 😒
Let’s put it this way 😂 “Slade’s obsession with kicking teenagers butt and bothering them” would not work in this modern sensitive society and tv audience 💀💀
This happens in all kinds of current shows, what do you mean? Lol
LMAOOO it wouldn’t work today’s “kids show” trust me that show would’ve been canceled long before season two or three would it come out? 🤣
@@edwinvasquez2509 Yeah...probably because it shouldn't work. The fact they got this through censors back then who were much worse than today is impressive. They couldn't even have "Deathstroke" as his name and violence was accompanied by flashes or cutaways to not show the hits. Shows today get away with a lot more, they just draw the line at the child molestation allegory of what Slade does here.
PLEASE watch Teen Titans Go!, it’s such a good parody of the OG
Let it be known it wasn’t Slaid, or Brother Blood, or even Gizmo that’s gotten Ruff to want death for villains. It was Control Freak
Raven never deserve this
Birthmark is the darkest episode of Teen Titans.
