Marcus, you somehow know how to stay in the joy of being a little boy on Christmas morning, letting the cynicism of getting older roll off your feathers. I absolutely love your channel and look forward to every video you make! Even your intros and outros are entertaining! My husband recognizes your voice and calls you “the surfer dude”. Haaa Word of the day: travelable - a 22 oz light stand
Your childlike enthusiasm and excitement is what I enjoy. At 50 myself, that's what keeps us young! Have fun with the simple things. Now if I could just find the success you've had...🤔
Omg. I remember when you mentioned hacksawing it. Great to know. I may pick up a few of these now. Fantastic! Great design concept to add height with more strength. So great! You definitely are a dedicated techie to come back with this add on clarity! Awesome!
Something that might be of interest to people is the Alzo extension rods have a 16mm diameter. AKA 1mm thicker than a typical 15mm rod on most camera rigs.
Loved this episode because the whole sha-bang is so lightweight Mr. Markus! BTW, if folks are afraid of hack-sawing off a bit of the 1/4" long-thread...You can add a number gaskets to use as "spacers" and achieve the same effect (without sawing a bit off). Or you could simple buy two of the extensions and have both (a regular length, and a sawed off length), as it's certainly budget-minded enough. Great video!
Yeah... I was left wondering about that longer screw length and thought it was for joining other bits for strength. I'm glad I was correct! 😊 Thanks for doing a demo for us, Markus! 🏆
Could be interesting to tether them end to end somehow, so they all stay together when disassembled. And have something like a cable strap attached to pack them together for easy transport.
You missed a trick Markus...Ever heard of the Tamrac Zipshot Mini? It's the worlds most compact folding tripod and one of the lightest...Only 265g (9.34oz)! Or about half the weight of your Aoka tripod base! It's only 9" long when folded and goes instantly up to 73.5cm (29"). I have an ultralight telescoping selfie stick I can screw of the top to extend it to over 6" and it only adds about 100g, giving me 6 foot + light stand / camera stand that weighs under 13oz!!! Tamrac have stupidly discontinued it so you will be hard pressed to find one now. I live in the UK and had to order both of my Zipshots from the States but I had to do this through a freight forwarding company (Stackry) as the first seller refused to post it to the UK and the postage would have cost too much with the other.
These videos are very useful. I have been looking for new light stands. One of the issue I have with mine is that the base legs are connected together at the bottom and I'd prefer if the legs were separate like the one you are showing and that the stand can go low so I can have lights not that high up as I sometimes need lights that are just above waist high. A stand like that would work great for me.
Watching this episode... Wait a minute.. that's my back scratcher haha the Alzo is pretty strong. I have used it as a small dolly (gimbal + alzo + tripod)
As always very useful! I've watched several videos on RUclips about feathering the light. For example 2 ad600 with good reflectors pointed from two sides to model or couple not straight but up to light them with the edge of light and don't spill the light on the ground around them to much. One is few stops less. So soft light with like a "shade" from other side. Background is underexposed as needed for example for saving the clouds or just 2 stops less to make accent on subject. Do you have videos on such technic?
Your next challenge if you choose to accept. Create the most portable setup for a boom pole with a mic and camera stand combo for talking head. It must fit in a backpack.
... and the reason for that is what (?)... because other RUclipsrs use boom poles? And why do they do that? because they see Hollywood people doing it. There is almost no reason for people to use boom poles nowadays. Don't be a sheep and do something just because everyone else is doing it. Isn't the Fosoto light stand (shown in a previous video) roughly about the same weight and size when both collapsed? 🤔It's also more versatile, just cannot guarantee the longevity as it has moving segments... but just the other day I used it instead of a heavy bulky tripod for a normal sized camera to film b-roll and static shots in a forest, and it held just great 😄
Markus, can you recommend a portable setup to record video with a fluid head? Tired of lugging around my big heavy video tripod to my kid's recitals and sports games.
Would you say that the Telescoping "Selfie Stick" poles work just as well in this combination or would you recommend this individual pieces for stability?
The telescoping selfie sticks are more fun to use and can be adjusted quickly. The Alzo sticks are strong and cannot accidentally collapse but take longer to set up and unscrew each section.
Love your videos... more on sound please. I always seem to struggle with filming in even light winds and frankly I am useless at using Audacity to clean it up. Your sound is soooo crisp and I would love to get mine as good as yours

Question for shooting in high wind, such as on the beach with large modifiers and big lights Is adding weight and size the only real solution to deal with it?
Depends what you call high winds. You can't use large modifiers in high winds. But for moderate wind, I use Impact light stands and put heavy weights on the feet. There are almost always rocks or something around. ruclips.net/video/QulvwOxuMGc/видео.html

@@bobuk5722 ive got sandbags that im just going to fill right there on the beach for obvious reasons. Im just not sure a 150cm softbox isnt just going to laugh at sandbags in the wind though. These light stand videos are awesome! Such a practical unconventional idea!

How well does a light light stand stand? (I just wanted to say that.) Cool video!
Thank you!

Very cool Markus!
This is pretty neat

I could use this to video volleyball games. Mount a GoPro and raise it to about 10 or 12 feet. Perfect.
You should take that to a state park and use it for Camp lighting and shoot your film inside its illumination in between ranger patrols.

Oh nice! The aoka has a weight hook! Sold haha.
Started to think about making my own rods :)
If you have aluminum rods and a lathe, go for it

Another solution would be guy ropes and tent pegs - at least on wet sand .....

What is your preference between this and the Fosoto FT-190B?
The Fosoto height adjusts quickly obviously vs unscrewing multiple Alzo sections. The Alzo setup is more compact but a bit more effort to set up
