Happy New Year, even though this was captured in November, it's great seeing you and your old friend together again. The patience paid off and the colors of the video and the stills were terrific as usual. They are amazing creatures and after watching another encounter I find myself pulling out your book by the fire and turning a few pages.
Dear Steve I like the way you behave in nature, really like an animal lying and wait, observing and enjoying, being and respecting, appreciating what is coming. I also see that the animals know that we are watching them and I inwardly ask, to be allowed to photograph them because they are just so beautiful. Have a good day... Regards Nicolaas
I'm glad to hear you follow the same wildlife approach as Morten Hilmer. Sneak in, observe, and leave without disturbing them. I try to follow that too, and it spoils it if they run off because you startle them. Well done.
Great video, made me smile because my most rewarding experiences are being alone with any subject, owls in particular, and just finding the comfort zone and waiting patiently for them to do their thing. Living in the northeast, celebrity birds like owls (especially snowy owls) draw crowd of photographers and it's common for them to be surrounded by photographers on multiple sides or have someone squeaking to get them to open their eyes or even pushing them get flight shots. You have to accept that everyone loves owls and wants their picture and not be the bird police. But there's nothing more satisfying than finding an owl on your own, waiting for it to "give" you the good shots and leaving it where you found it. Thanks!
Happy New Year, Steve! It is a wonderful privilege and honor when a wild animal allows you into its space. Reverence and respect for the animal not only lends itself to better photo opportunities, but more importantly impacts your heart, mind, and soul with the rich gifts of an encounter with another sentient being with whom we share this beautiful planet!
Steve …your vlogs and photography is awesome don’t worry about the intro & wow that owl is amazing the heads just like a submarine periscope as he scans the horizon..👍
Great video, I'm glad you brought up the topic of respecting the owls space. We have become gatekeepers when it comes to our owl sightings to prevent the owls from being harassed. Those Grey's are a beautiful species for sure.
Man Steve, you attitude is contagious. Watching and listening to your art and entertainment makes my day more enjoyable. Thanks for doing this for us all!
Excellent group of photos!! The forest is a wonderful place to exercise one’s senses. Oh, my 6 month old grandson was captivated by your post preamble.
Thanks for another great owl video. I love owls and I am lucky enough to live outside of the city and have a nice little population of them living around me. We have barred owls for the most part, and this time of year great horned owls have started visiting my neighborhood the last couple of years. 2024 was great, I had a barred owl in the spring that would hunt the property across the street from me every night at the same time. I would go out every night and just stand and watch him hunt for about 2 hours. I even got out there early one night and had him fly right over my head coming in to get his perch for the evening. The biggest thrill for me was getting to take my twin 4 year old grandsons out to watch it hunt when they were visiting me. Sat them on the fence and they watched with me and were all excited. Please keep the videos coming so I can live vicariously through you. I can't wait to visit the Teton area again some day.
Appreciate your videos! It’s fun, and I am a landscape photographer who’s now wanting to capture more wildlife. I just purchased a Sony 200-600mm lens and have gone out a few times looking for owls. No luck thus far. But it’s part of the challenge that I enjoy!
Steve, I love your videos! I just got back today from a trip to the Sax-Zim Bog in northern MN I've never photographed or even seen a GGO until 3 days ago, I saw 5 different GGO and took numerous photos. It was such an emotional experience, I now know why you love them so much! Happy New Year.....Bob
I find it is no coincidence that I see more wildlife and interesting behaviour when I'm alone. Whenever two or more people are together the noise levels increase and concentration decreases. Hence why I rarely mix with other photographers (specially when wildlife is the subject) although many people simply believe I'm a miserable, anti-social old git 🤔😁. Grand video as always. Best wishes and belated New Year's greetings from Wales.
Great video! In the spirit of patience in the forest… I once came across a big bald eagle sitting on a fairly low branch. I was over the moon to get a chance to take a picture. I waited for little while thinking he probably would hang around long, but after what turned out to be me waiting to get a takeoff shot for 6.5 hours I had to relent and call it a day.
Steve, how can you tell it's the same owl? It's really cool for you to just let us watch it for a while as you shoot. Well, the owl may have been lost for the day, but you did get some awesome photographs. The Great Grey really is such a great mass of feathers! So fluffy and the wing feathers seem extra numerous and long. Amazing!
Appreciate your approach to photographing wildlife. We have a Bald Eagle that has visited our local park’s lake for the last 8+ years. She is easily identified by her deformed beak and massive size. Curious to know what causes you to recognize this specific GGO?
Admiring your patience, persistence and, of course, your photographs. I was also admiring your cold weather gear because it looks like I probably can learn a few things from yourself about dressing for cold weather, especially in windy and wet conditions like those we are currently experiencing on the gulf coast. A friend of mine hunts and tells me you have to know how to dress for it but he's hunting from tree stands and not moving as much as you do. Any tips you can pass along?
It’s 10.30 pm in the U.K. and your blog went live just before I was about to go to bed. It was a pleasure sharing the Great Grey with you. What are the chances of two guys turning up in the middle of nowhere? Great video and I would like to wish you a Happy New Year. Here’s to the next one.
Great video as always! Would love to take advantage of your Teton workshops but a little too pricey for my budget. Guess I’ll have to be content with your beautiful RUclips videos.
They're nocturnal, that's the secret..😅 You still have a chance at photographing Diurnal and Crepuscular species. Thanks for this video it was fun, I enjoyed it. 😎
Thanks for watching! And great grays are not nocturnal, they can be found hunting at all times of the day but mostly mornings and evenings, so crepuscular is a better description.
Oh. That scratch at approx the 6:05 minute mark. Second hand satisfaction from that.... Also. People throwing stuff at wildlife. Despicable. Not a fan of baiting, but of the two, whatever. But seriously, throwing something at an owl for a photo? Bleurgh.

Thanks! I appreciate you picking up the book.
Rambling😂😂😂 we've come to expect that Steve, don't apologize or change your way. That's one of the things we enjoy. Great shots as always.
Haha glad you enjoyed it!

Your images are beyond amazing! Your philosophy is perfect! Thanks for taking me along!
Glad you enjoyed it!
One of your best vlogs Steve. Patience. It's a virtue.
Thanks Bill👍
The right approach. Lovely photos and footage of a beautiful owl. Thank you!

I’m booked with you in May. Can’t wait. I was just thinking “how is always so alone” when you told the part about the 2 dudes….
Haha, yeah, you never really know who's out there.

about 12:00 in I noticed what I thought was a road in the background? If so Nice to have such a great experience and not walk 3 miles to find it.
Nope, no roads nearby.
Great video. I really like your easy going attitude and the way you approach your subjects. Well done!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
Those facial expressions at the five minute mark are incredible. Great video hope to see a Great Grey soon.

Can’t say with certainty unless you get dna. But based on its specific territory and behavior, I am quite sure.
Alwayd great work and happy new

Nice one. Enjoy your soak in the hot tube.
Yes I did👍
Loved another video Steve. Man, where do I get those gloves ? :) They seem to fit and work very well to handle the camera ?? Cheers

I must ask. How do you identify an Owl that you haven’t seen in a year!
Great video, Steve. I just wish the Bard Owls in south Louisiana were as cooperative as that Gray Owl was for you.
Yep, great grays are special…
Oh. That scratch at approx the 6:05 minute mark. Second hand satisfaction from that....
