Another stellar review by the king of midi controllers! I recently bought the oxygen pro to compliment my larger 88 key controller and i couldn't be happier. On another note (pun intended), it would be amazing if you would consider adding affiliate links to Thomann as well, which is where many of us Europeans buy our gear. Thanks!
Thanks John, very helpful video! You're the best in giving a good comparison between all these different keybeds.
Man , you are a mind reader. I was just thinking about comparing these two yesterday. clutch my G.
Thank you for your videos. You have been a big help as I look to upgrade from a Yamaha PSR E363 to a dedicated MIDI controller. (Amateur bedroom dude here not looking to be a pro, just create my own music for YT vids) I'm looking for two controllers. One for travel and I've settled on the Novation Launchkey Mini MK3 25. The other is a dedicated office board. It's down to the MKV vs Oxygen Pro. This video has helped a lot. One question please. How big is after touch for someone who is not a pro? I did some research and it sounds like you can add after touch in the software. Or is that not a good idea? If after touch is not a game changer and I can add it to software later, the MKV 49 key is my decision. I was thinking it might be a good idea to spend the extra money on the pro to have headroom but I don't have a need for MIDI out, like what you have to say on the key feel and seems like for just being an amateur and happy at that spot, the MKV would be a good buy, for me. Again, thank you for everything. You've been a GREAT HELP!! Be safe and all the best.
Man, loving that console mixer throw pillow! Where did you purchase?
I found a used Oxygen 61 for 80 Euros (84 USD) that i'm picking up tomorrow. It's temporal till i get the Native S61 MK2. Glad to hear the Oxygen has a decent keybed.
I know which to buy, I going for m audio oxygen pro 61 for my reasonstudio, thank you John for you video, it help me to choose
Thanks John, Your videos help a lot. Had a question and I cannot find the answer in most videos. I am looking into my first midi controler and these are my two options. And as a guitar player, I feel a little lost but as mentioned, your videos really help. Hope you can help out, I plan on using this mainly for key drumming (using the keys not pads), entering bass lines and slowly getting into a little piano work. I was wondering what would be better, synth key or semi weighted for what I plan to do? And I can't try them since no store locally have them side by side.
For key drumming I would probably go with the synth-action
I bought a pro 49 and its worth pointing out the after touch usage is the best i have used. Normally after touch you feel like you are breaking the keys, nektar - breaking the keys, novation - breaking the keys, m audio pro - after touch feels right. I may consider doing a video on it with NI massive and after touch usage. (Roli is going to be best for AT but in terms of regular keybed this pro AT is good)
What do you think of roland A800...is it better than M Audio?
@@permanentwave Rolands are brilliantly intuitive when it comes to midi channel mapping. A800 is probably better as for the synth feel, but won’t have direct integration with daw like the m audio. I have a roland EA-7 arranger keyboard which actually has the equivalent of upper 1 upper2 lower1 bass, midi interfaces all on separate channels, so with that you can actually layer 4 tone generators together with dedicated mute buttons for each midi channel. Ive never seen any other midi controller be able to do this (possibly studio logic). But it depends what you are wanting to do.
Can you do a series of " everything and how to use the M-audio" 61 and how all the buttons and knobs work??
Theres no videos anywhere for that!!!
how does the keybed on these compare to the code 61 model ?
How does oxygen mkv's keybed compare with novation launchkey mk3?
Good explanation in short terms.
Thanks. I like the ordinary one more. I love the keys and pads. I don't really care about those other things that come with the pro.
🙏 thanks 🙏 Especially your thoughts on the feel of the keys 🎹 Very helpful. Especially your comments about the expressiveness, or ease of playing, and your observation on noisiness. These bones are getting older and were told play guitar. All of the extra keyboarding we do these days adds to the wear. And these ears are used to listening for details with amps up. Any click clack or clonk clonk distracts from playing for fun 🤩
Was so up in the ‘oxygen’ juggling the options. You assured and confirmed. Expressiveness and peace in playing. Thanks again 🎹 👋
Awesome T-short!
I have the 61 key, for some reason My faders are causing a glitch and it causes me problems to where in I cannot even play the board , got it brand new ,after a couple months it started .sent it off it worked for a couple months
How can i connect speakers to the oxygen 61 mk 4
the problem with the oxygenPro 61 is it feels CHEAP.... and is it true the keybed is Aftertouch only on the White keys ? thanks for the video btw 👍👍
I had the pro 49 and got the pro 61 and its way different in terms of velocity and play ability the keys give you a real velocity feeling......and its a beast on my vst synths like pigments
Are you sure the keys are different? That’s strange, I assume the 61 key version was the better one?
@@MediaMusik777 appreciate the quick reply, would love the MPK but it’s out of my price bracket in NZ, thinking I’ll get the oxygen pro 61 unless you would recommend against that generally?
I'm sure I'm a bit of an oddball here with my needs, but... I have the Oxygen Pro 49 and I've never been in love with the keyfeel, they do feel clunky and noisy. I also have never found myself needing to use the clip launcher or various other controls - I just assumed they were nice to have. Finally, the desk I have set up for my music gear is not especially deep and this thing takes up most of my available space. I've been using Playground Sessions to learn to play piano but it's probably rare that I'll ever play on a 'real' piano, so I'm debating whether semi-weighted keys really matter. Can you recommend a 49-key MIDI controller with the best keyfeel (with full-size keys) and smallest desk footprint? I'm wondering for example about the M-AUDIO Keystation 49es MK3, Alesis V49, or the Roland A-49? I'm happy to pay more for better quality, so price/value isn't my main factor here.
Smallest footprint would definitely be the keystation 49
Alesis V49 sucks...key springs kept coming off under use and I had to keep rebuilding the keys. And mine shorted after a few weeks of light use....The Alesis V49 is total junk.
Oxygen Pro 66 or the KeyLab Essential 66?
hey john do you think the pro 49 key is worth it for a person that just makes hip hop music and would mainly use it for synths or do you think i should just get the oxygen v 49 key one
Either would work fine for that
Nice video.
Tell me something if you know.
I want to use as a stand alone midi controller with old rack synth via MIDI out.
Power ? Should I connect it to a charger for mobile phones? Is that ok?
Yup I’ve done that before
Hey John .. I love your comparison.
Please advise what type of midi keyboard for s best for home studio.. 49keys..
Thanks
Depends on your budget
I have 150
@@fimbo_moto it will be a bit more money but I would go with the Oxygen V...it’s $179
@@Johnmike thanks.. am sure I can manage that
trying to decide between the oxygen mkv 49 and keylab essential 49 . seems like you're a big fan of both keybeds. are they pretty similar in terms of feel/ noise ?
I am…and they do both have close to the same feel
Which one did you get? I’m torn between this two right now!
@@TomGrimmy I chose the oxygen. I really liked the keyboard, but it had midi disconnect issues with my daw that I couldn't figure out unfortunately so I returned it. I actually switched it out for the keystation 49 mk3 which has the same Keybed to my understanding which feels great to me and has no disconnect issues. Plus I never used the additional controls. I never tried the arturia but have had issues with their hardware in the past so I was hesitant. Hope that helps you decide.
Does Oxygen 61 keybed have the intial sticky sensation and noise issue like on keystation 88 and 61?
No it’s a different Keybed
@@Johnmike Thank you!
Which one is a better pick? M-audio code 61 or M-audio oxygen pro 61?
(Better in terms of quality, keys, functions and so on)
Pro
@@Johnmike ty very much for the answer
(Btw. Sry I posted this same comment on a few of your videos to increase the chances of getting an answer, but then again I guess that helps the algorithm)
Software os not a turn on for me, however ,I would love to know if mkV supports after touch or not?
No it doesn’t
Pro does tho
Ok, thank u ❤️
i'm confused, which keybed is better?
It’s subjective...if you want semi weighted action with aftertouch...the Oxygen Pro is the best...if you don’t care about after touch and want a smooth quiet touch then the oxygen V is better
So is the semi-weighted keys + aftertouch obviously better suited for piano playing?
Going to be so glad when M Audio finally gets us a firmware to fix the mod and pitch wheel lag issue and resolve some of the DAW features not working right on the Oxygen Pro boards! I like my Oxygen Pro 49 plenty well to play on etc. but anxiously awaiting first signs of supporting this product still as of this post. They know about the issue if you call them, firmware update allegedly on the horizon. But it has been months and nothing yet, we'll see.
Edit: forget it. I returned it for an MPK249. Very happy, can't recommend the Oxygen Pro at this time. Mine got screen burn in in under three months as well as the mentioned issues. Maybe just a bum unit, but I couldn't accept the lack of support and issues.
i wish they had the midi 2.0 system like the axiom where i could assign any cc to any hardware control
@@MediaMusik777 Honestly man the way things went with the Oxygen Pro 49 despite it being one of their pricier prosumer keyboards I probably would not buy another M-Audio prosumer product. It was overall a really poor experience for me, and the Novation Launchkey MkIII 37-key next to me and Akai MPK249 in front of me have done so much better (and, I've owned the Launchkey MkIII 37 since before, and the Akai MPK249 for longer than I had the Oxygen Pro 49). I appreciate what they were trying to do with the product but I feel at least in the case of mine they fell very far short of the mark. I am very grateful Sweetwater worked with me to get the faulty unit exchanged toward the MPK249 despite it being outside of the normal return window, they really went the extra mile for me and I will get my next keyboard from them out of loyalty for that I think.
Hi, is there anyone here who has the version NOT PRO version, I would like to ask something(?)👋
Hey i wanna ask about the build quality which one is better?
Both are pretty much the same
@@Johnmike how about for long terms? Its gonna be my first i dont wanna messed up lmao. Btw great videos!! Subscribed already
@@dustivlokol1502 thanks for subscribing! I’ve had both for over a year with no issues
@@Johnmike thanks john for the review and information i'll go for oxygen 49 since i'm on a tight budget. Hope its gonna be good as yours.
Hi, Can I connect it directly to my cell phone, without the need for the cell phone to be charging? In other words, only the power of the cell phone. Oxygen Pro
can i use the oxygen pro 61 with reaper?
Yes
@@Johnmike 😁😁 thanks
Hello , i respect your work but you don t talk about the bugS on oxygen pro and the fact that m audio support doesn t answer to question and has not provided any firmware update...don t spend money on m audio this company is not what it used to be ( i had keystation and axiom back in 2k6)
I'm sur I can sample your voice and make a hit 😄" the controooowl, you're not loosing much in terms of a control"
I'm going straight for the pro even tho I'm not a pro lol
Lol
Too poor to take it cheap :P
pro all the way!
I like my keystation 49 feel not so much on my kestation 61 so which one is closest to kestation 49 , I recently bought Arturia keylab essentials 61 mi3 its the worst keyboard I ever owned returning this junk so thinking about getting m audio oxygen 61
