Some of these old movies remind me of how great America was back in the used to be, before the fools tock over.
When you say “how great America” was back in the day but it wasn’t so great for all segments 😢 nonetheless I try to ignore that and just enjoy the movie. I’ve loved these since early 60s 😊
compared to now, America was great back in the day.
@@terryhansen5928 great for only a small segment of the population
@@adamnoman4658 make it plural-people of color
People could spell back then too 😂 😂 😂
THE LATE DENNIS O'KEEFE WAS A HAND SOME MAN. AND A GREAT ACTOR. This A GOOD MOVIE!
These old movies are so much better than this modern crap
100 % correct.
Yes!
I love seeing the clothes, the cars and the decor of the past.
You get!
Agreed!!!
Love a good ending, and it wasn't forced. Well written. Well acted. Good thinker film.
I like that a good thinker film
Barbara Britton was extremely pretty. And this is a good movie.
Indubidubly 🙂
Quite gorgeous.
She became Revlon spokesperson on TV and with Richard Denning starred in Mr. And Mrs. North in early fifties detective series.
May I be so bold as to say Barbara Britton is, shall we say, FETCHING. 🙂
She looks like a big, broad smile is just below the surface ready to burst out Truly lovely.
Whoah there, let's keep it clean pal.
Wm Bendix. Very good actor
Yes! And can play the creep, the dangerous villain, the loving uncle-type and the common man with equal skill. Depraved or divine.
AMEN!! Loved him in "Kill the umpire" and in the TV show "The life of Riley". Very good at picking roles that he was made for. I have never seen a bad movie with William Bendix in it. One of the best!
@@bobroth1951 Was he also in, "something Hongkong,, of something ? He was a good cop,,,,,
Yes, I agree !😊
When I watched him talk, it was amazing how much he resembles Jay Leno.
Dennis O'Keefe is aways good, Love these movies
Okay, this is a good movie! This one has a great story line, film quality is top notch, it's one of those plot thickens kind of movies, good directing, great acting. A true Gem. A must watch.
Barbara Britton had that 'wow' factor going for her. Very beautiful.
Outstanding movie! Well worth watching! I have watched it several times.
pretty good film for 75 years old.. especially liked her reflection while replacing the Luger.
This is a nice unexpected combination of mystery, comedy and romance. The small town boy makes good and returns to a small town hook was a plus.
Hilda was doing her part for humanity..& her peeps.
When movies made SENSE n people could learn a thing or 2 . Thank you
Love this movie. Interesting re the sheriff telling the insurance agent he smoked too much. Dennis died from lung cancer at the age of 60. He was in fact a heavy smoker as were many actors of this era. Anyway, this is my third time watching.
My 5th time watching. They sure don't make like this one anymore. Fine movie to enjoy
Amei o filme, realmente não se faz mais filmes assim!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
None of three main stars lived past 60.
Sorry but Dennis who? They didn't start with credits
@@minoosethna4615 Dennis O'Keefe
These are wat you call real movies wholesome and meaningful, HEARTFELT ❤
I must have seen the beautiful Barbara Britton a thousand times during her Revlon commercial days during the '50's and '60's.
Excellent film thanks. 👍
What a Gem the cast were fantastic the plot was excellent the leading lady was a real Peach thank you for this priceless movie ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Indubidubly 🙂
Always liked Dennis OKeefe. He could do drama and comedy as well. He was very handsome too.
Enjoyed the film!!
Indubidubly 🙂
1:11 the way the bus driver grins throughout relaying the news of the suicide ... times were different back then.
These movies not made anymore, so glad we can still see them
Well this is a great watch. Thanks for the upload 👍👍👍👍
Dennis O’Keefe and William Bendix in a Noir? Count me in!
Thanks for this. First I'd seen or known of it, although I'm a longtime fan of Bendix and O'Keefe.
This brings back memories of how people lived and behaved when I was young- when decency wasn't considered to be a dirty word. Good story, well acted- TY!
Can't believe Donovan bought that little story at the end.
So Dr Gerrow didn't do it right? It was the dad?
@@davidday6736 No, it was the saintly left-handed doc.

This was great! Thank you
There was a big fat bully in a little town in Missouri many years ago. He was shot down by several, maybe most of the menfolk of the town. To my recollection no one was ever charged for the murder.
Ken Rex McElroy, in Skidmore, Missouri. Sixty minutes did a report about it. It was all over the news in 1981.
there was a book written about the killing too.
@@jeanesingsjazz And the great Brian Dennehy played him in the 1991 made-for-tv movie, In Broad Daylight. It's pretty good.
Great pipe smoking movie! Sharing with the YTPC!! (RUclips pipe community) Great pipe spotting movie!! Identifing brands and shapes!! Men in suits and ties and hats! No bums!! No dirty tee shirts, sweat pants worn by big boompa straoompas!!
Don’t listen to the negatives. This is a great movie
Ending is Vomit.
Nice little movie with my mother's idea of the prettiest actress - Barbara Britton. They never really explained why the dead man was as disliked as 'Ole Man Potter' in It's A Wonderful Life. He didn't want his niece to marry a man he didn't think good enough and that was it. Altho there was a banker who made loans, he loaned money to the sheriff - nothing said on repayment pressure. But the killer had had enough and popped him. Maybe he kicked puppies.
Film and sound quality are great. Well written fine film. Enjoying it very much.
Who would have thunk it would end up being a heartwarming Christmas movie😊❤
What a great movie!!
"Merry Christmas"
I'll always love those words!
Great movie thanks for uploading 💚
i think i remember that insurance doesn't pay off at all for suicides............????..
They do now. But you can’t kill yourself for two years.
@@Blt-rr2lm All I can hear after that comment is a paraphrased Homer Simpson, "But I wanna do it now!"
And a casing can't identify a particular gun ,only that it might be and most likely was an automatic ,but ,errors on the surface flow ,but he who would seek the pearls must dive below
@@ronaldrayner5049 semi-automatic, or autoloader is the correct term, which the Luger is. The firing pin imprint could prove a negative, but not a positive. That is, it could eliminate a particular weapon, but not establish definitely that is was the one that fired the round. Also if there was a headstamp, while not conclusive, if identical, would be incriminating.
@@expat2010 The bullet , not the case would match the rifling to the correct gun . The Sheriff had both from the crime scene . If the bullet is not found , then the ejector marks on the case might work .
Thank you for sharing this wonderful old classic Gem . 😊
I watched this movie for the first time last week. Excellent movie.
I have watched this movie several times..
Very gripping...
Good movie. Reminds me of a case where a whole town took care of a bully and protected the killer.
The dude at the station telling her about a suicide while smiling widely.
I noticed that too. He was tickled pink.
Great restoration of any. High quality good movie.
I’m 20 minutes in and the sheriff and that whole town could have tried just a little bit not to come off as if they were guilty 😂
Frank was singer Russell Arms, who was one of the singers on the 1950s TV Show, "Your Hit Parade".
Be Happy Go Lucky.
Very suspenseful, mysterious, great movie. I enjoyed it very much. Thanks for the upload.
Amazing to see the storyline. When Dennis initially arrives at the police station and William Bending makes a comment about Dennis smoking too much, you can see through the movie that he was constantly chain smoking.....Dennis died from lung cancer in 1968, age 60...
Thank you for a wonderful movie love the ending❤
Good movie.
My first exposure to William Bendix was way back in the early 50's. When the whole population had to have a TV. 'The Life of Riley.' I Have always liked him as an actor. Wouldn't mind watching 'Two Call Johnson.' Once more.
A great movie n great cast I love eating these classical old movies thanks to my late mother who introduced me to these movies at an early age 😀 😊 😉 😄 ☺️
Quite a twisted little plot, LOL. Dennis O'Keefe (who played Sam) got a writing credit for it.
Great movie I really enjoyed it.
Thank you so much .
The movie was great! Thank you.
Well written. Well acted.
Barbara Britton was such a fox, loved her also in Mr and Mrs North
Very good movie! Thanks. Love Dennis Okeefe! But the credits are missing.
Very good movie ! Have not seen much of O'keefe ( Alan Ladd look alike) enjoyed his role Bendix was fantastic as usual & Barbara , a doll as always !
Which one , or who , played the Sheriff ? He was really good .
1.13 and I still not sure who done it.
An excellent movie.
The Sherrif was the Star of 1950s tv's Life of Riley. Wm Bendix. I used to watch as a kid.
Art Baker had a TV program for ages and was on so many other radio/TV shows - I suppose his voice was liked. But I remember he played a baddie (a politician) in The Farmer's Daughter movie - really surprised me.
20,000$ in 1949 is the equivalent of 250,000$ in today's value.
That Barbara Bretton is one fine looking dame! I don't much remember seeing her in other pictures, could my memory be that bad?
She was in the movie " The Virginian ", and the TV show Mr. And Mrs.North".
She was the Revlon girl in the 1950s.
Looked up Dennis O’Keeffe he died and of lung cancer not really surprised judging from the amount he smoked . Good movie.
When you see the insurance salesman approaching you must dive for cover.
Very nice movie.
I JUST LOVE THE DEEP DIRTY SECRETS OF A FAMILY LIFE! MOST OF US HAVE LARGE FAMILIES. MOTHER, FATHER, SON , DAUGHTER OR TWO DAUGHTERS OR TWO SONS. AND ONE OF THEIR CHILDREN IS ONE WHO IS SO CLOSE TO THE FATHER! AND BY BEING CLOSE HE OR SHE CAN"T LET FATHER GO TO JAIL! NO MATTER WHAT HE DOES OR DID!
These old movies have all kinna actoresses without a stake in anything but their kuck to have lived when they did.
The continuity was off in this movie oddly but the story was a good one on a bit of vigilante justice when nothing else worked as is often the case when one or more malevolent weilds unjust power over the rights & peaceful lives of others. I see absolutely nothing wrong with this. There is an actual case file of a town where this exact kind of thing happened where a man had terrorized everyone in the town for his entire adult life & yet never paid any significant price for any of his crimes against anyone. Went on year after year until finally he was ended by an unknown person. As much as investigtors grilled the townsfolk they couldn't find a single witness or sufficient evidence to single any one person or persons out to charge for the demise. To this day it remains justifiably unsolved & that evil remains in the ground where he should have been long beforehand.
That's for a jury to decide.
Quite enjoyable. Thanks.
I had never heard of William Bendix before. Loved his character in this movie. He would have made a brilliant Al Bundy. Thats all I kept thinking every time I saw him. 😂
@6:20, William Bendix utters a prophetic line ~ Dennis O'Keefe, a heavy cigarette smoker, died of lung cancer in 1968 at the age of 60.
One of the problems with the old movies is that the actors, and often actresses too, were too old for the roles they play. Guys in their 40s and 50s playing roles of people in their 20s and 30s.
Art Baker in You Asked For It. Barbara Britton in Mr. and Mrs. North. William Bendix in Life of Riley. All in early 1950’s.
Great movie
Great film thanks for uploading
A great movie. I would give it a 10. A 'murder' movie with a happy ending. A different idea of justice.
Very good I couldn't figure it out myself so I was surprised but now I can't remember who the doctor was I'll have to watch the beginning again. Some smokers don't think that smoking kills did you notice how much Dennis O'Keefe smoked one after another so I did a little detective work myself LOL I asked my Alexa app what Dennis O'Keefe died of she said lung cancer at the age of only 60 in 1968 now is that a coincidence I think not. I'm glad I never smoked I'm 90 years old now lungs are clear just saying.
This was such a a great movie
This is so good thank you.❤❤❤
Good movie. Thanks
Such a good movie!
So to recap a man was murdered and they all had a merry christmas, very very bizarre ending I'm not sure if I like it but it was somewhat entertaining.
Good movie thank you
Amei!!! Amo ver as cidades do interior dos EUA, ainda mais antigamente.
Também amo esses, filmes antigos, não achei tradução em português mas assisto assim mesmo.
Hilda, recognize that voice from Billy Wilder films.
For sure, theye all I watch.
A GREAT movie!
Of course an insurance investigator would successfully throw his weight around with law enforcement.
Watching again.. didn't notice conductor..smiling & laughing about someone commity suicide ..just smiling away...oh I think town didnt like how m.. but still

Virginia Christine, I think. She was in so many movies.

Beautiful movie..i wonder if Sam came back to stay and got married to that gal..
Wow.... Someone noticing another fellow is smoking too much in a 1950's movie... Whaddayasayyyy !
12 dollars for a Xmas tree in the 1950's ??? That's what in today's money, 60-70 $ ???
