This brings back memories of how people lived and behaved when I was young- when decency wasn't considered to be a dirty word. Good story, well acted- TY!
TY, I've always liked Barbara Britton. Very beautiful and a nice personality. I agree with you about today's societie's lack of appreciation of moral decency. And many of post babyboomer generations are not sure what the word decency means. Even many babyboomers have discarded what they have been taught as children about basic moral principles that come from the Bible.❤
I wish it were like that today. I'm so glad my parents brought me up on these films (only black and white's and old cartoons). This is all I watch and what I plan to play for my future children. Things weren't perfect, nothing is, but they were so much better then. I wish we could go back❤

Okay, this is a good movie! This one has a great story line, film quality is top notch, it's one of those plot thickens kind of movies, good directing, great acting. A true Gem. A must watch.
When you say “how great America” was back in the day but it wasn’t so great for all segments 😢 nonetheless I try to ignore that and just enjoy the movie. I’ve loved these since early 60s 😊
AMEN!! Loved him in "Kill the umpire" and in the TV show "The life of Riley". Very good at picking roles that he was made for. I have never seen a bad movie with William Bendix in it. One of the best!
A great movie n great cast I love eating these classical old movies thanks to my late mother who introduced me to these movies at an early age 😀 😊 😉 😄 ☺️
Amazing to see the storyline. When Dennis initially arrives at the police station and William Bending makes a comment about Dennis smoking too much, you can see through the movie that he was constantly chain smoking.....Dennis died from lung cancer in 1968, age 60...
The great Doro Merande played the part of the maid. She made a career of playing supporting roles like this. Always small but memorable..! She was often mistaken for Margaret Hamilton..?!! Sadly she passed away in 1975 aged 83. Fondly remembered..🙏🙏
Love this movie. Interesting re the sheriff telling the insurance agent he smoked too much. Dennis died from lung cancer at the age of 60. He was in fact a heavy smoker as were many actors of this era. Anyway, this is my third time watching.
Nice little movie with my mother's idea of the prettiest actress - Barbara Britton. They never really explained why the dead man was as disliked as 'Ole Man Potter' in It's A Wonderful Life. He didn't want his niece to marry a man he didn't think good enough and that was it. Altho there was a banker who made loans, he loaned money to the sheriff - nothing said on repayment pressure. But the killer had had enough and popped him. Maybe he kicked puppies.
My first exposure to William Bendix was way back in the early 50's. When the whole population had to have a TV. 'The Life of Riley.' I Have always liked him as an actor. Wouldn't mind watching 'Two Call Johnson.' Once more.
Great pipe smoking movie! Sharing with the YTPC!! (RUclips pipe community) Great pipe spotting movie!! Identifing brands and shapes!! Men in suits and ties and hats! No bums!! No dirty tee shirts, sweat pants worn by big boompa straoompas!!
There was a big fat bully in a little town in Missouri many years ago. He was shot down by several, maybe most of the menfolk of the town. To my recollection no one was ever charged for the murder.
You want us to respect each other in the comments, but you don't have any respect for the people who actually made the film you're showing because you omit all the credits. Respect works both ways.

The continuity was off in this movie oddly but the story was a good one on a bit of vigilante justice when nothing else worked as is often the case when one or more malevolent weilds unjust power over the rights & peaceful lives of others. I see absolutely nothing wrong with this. There is an actual case file of a town where this exact kind of thing happened where a man had terrorized everyone in the town for his entire adult life & yet never paid any significant price for any of his crimes against anyone. Went on year after year until finally he was ended by an unknown person. As much as investigtors grilled the townsfolk they couldn't find a single witness or sufficient evidence to single any one person or persons out to charge for the demise. To this day it remains justifiably unsolved & that evil remains in the ground where he should have been long beforehand.
Art Baker had a TV program for ages and was on so many other radio/TV shows - I suppose his voice was liked. But I remember he played a baddie (a politician) in The Farmer's Daughter movie - really surprised me.
I JUST LOVE THE DEEP DIRTY SECRETS OF A FAMILY LIFE! MOST OF US HAVE LARGE FAMILIES. MOTHER, FATHER, SON , DAUGHTER OR TWO DAUGHTERS OR TWO SONS. AND ONE OF THEIR CHILDREN IS ONE WHO IS SO CLOSE TO THE FATHER! AND BY BEING CLOSE HE OR SHE CAN"T LET FATHER GO TO JAIL! NO MATTER WHAT HE DOES OR DID!
I had never heard of William Bendix before. Loved his character in this movie. He would have made a brilliant Al Bundy. Thats all I kept thinking every time I saw him. 😂
No gratuitous sex!! No vulgarity!! No absurd special effects!! No blood thirsty over the top graphic violence!! How the hell did they make such a good picture. BLACK AND WHITE TOO.
So to recap a man was murdered and they all had a merry christmas, very very bizarre ending I'm not sure if I like it but it was somewhat entertaining.
One of the problems with the old movies is that the actors, and often actresses too, were too old for the roles they play. Guys in their 40s and 50s playing roles of people in their 20s and 30s.
Very good I couldn't figure it out myself so I was surprised but now I can't remember who the doctor was I'll have to watch the beginning again. Some smokers don't think that smoking kills did you notice how much Dennis O'Keefe smoked one after another so I did a little detective work myself LOL I asked my Alexa app what Dennis O'Keefe died of she said lung cancer at the age of only 60 in 1968 now is that a coincidence I think not. I'm glad I never smoked I'm 90 years old now lungs are clear just saying.

Barbara Britton was extremely pretty. And this is a good movie.
Indubidubly 🙂
Quite gorgeous.
She became Revlon spokesperson on TV and with Richard Denning starred in Mr. And Mrs. North in early fifties detective series.
Okay, this is a good movie! This one has a great story line, film quality is top notch, it's one of those plot thickens kind of movies, good directing, great acting. A true Gem. A must watch.
Outstanding movie! Well worth watching! I have watched it several times.
When movies made SENSE n people could learn a thing or 2 . Thank you
Dennis O'Keefe is aways good, Love these movies
pretty good film for 75 years old.. especially liked her reflection while replacing the Luger.
Some of these old movies remind me of how great America was back in the used to be, before the fools tock over.

This is a nice unexpected combination of mystery, comedy and romance. The small town boy makes good and returns to a small town hook was a plus.
Hilda was doing her part for humanity..& her peeps.
May I be so bold as to say Barbara Britton is, shall we say, FETCHING. 🙂
She looks like a big, broad smile is just below the surface ready to burst out Truly lovely.
Whoah there, let's keep it clean pal.

Wm Bendix. Very good actor
