I like what Damon talks about when he mentioned his plans for Mr Eko being ruined when the actor wanted to leave the show and essentially shifting the entire story arc to Desmond. That is basically called a "trap door". It is something J. Michael Straczynski, the creator of Babylon 5 used to do. He would always have a plan B that if someone wanted to leave the show, he brought in another character to essentially continue the story arc he intended for the character that would get written out of the show. It blows my mind to think how different Lost would be with Eko doing all the stuff Desmond did. Maybe the spiritual ending may have gone down better if Eko was there to lead the viewers into that. As it is the desmond story almost forced people to think on a moer scientific level instead. which may have caused the animosity towards the finale.
nolan palmer It's surprising he said Eko's arc went to Desmond when he and Carlton have said multiple times Eko leaving meant Ben filled that void. But maybe that's more screentime than plot. Interesting. Writing this comment before finishing the video FYI.
It is insane the amount of BS Damon gets from untalented people who can't write. It sucks that people do not understand metaphors and need daddy to hold their hand threw a tv series explaining them things at all times.
It's been how many times since I've finished Lost and have rewatched it entirely a couple times and I still do not go a day without thinking about it. Even my own writing is loosely influenced somewhat by Lost, which is really hard to not do.
I think it's pretty evident to other writers and people with imagination that Damon is talented, and you can tell from the intricate setups and payoffs in Lost that he reads a lot of books. Too bad there's so many dumb people giving ignorant opinions that have muddied Lost's reputation.
If all stories are only cyclical pastiches in the mold of hip hop -- which is subservient doggerel to something that has genuine literary merit: poetry -- then why pretend to be original at all?
Relevant storytellers? I thought his thing was to make his stories as vague and convoluted as possible, and then write an ending that's totally irrelevant and undermines the six year storyline entirely just so he can make 3 girls cry. But then I only saw Lost. Since then I've avoided his work, so maybe I'm not the best judge.
Hey, we only have 500 characters. I can't speak to all of this guy's work, nor would I care to. I'm pissed off because I got around to watching Lost 2 years after it was canceled and the ending was the worst piece of shit ending I've ever seen to what was otherwise a pretty decent show. People go on RUclips to vent, fight, or express their joy, not to write a thesis. I was venting. I could give a shit about Lindelof in the big picture. He should be deported for that Lost fiasco.
That was a very revealing interview. It would have been great to see Mr Eko's character develop further on Lost.

Most of his arc meant to Ben. As in a spiritual rival to Locke

This talk was held at Walt Disney Feature Animation.
very cool.

Disney? is this disney animation or something? or corporate?
I used to! :)
X-Filian. Nice.
You seem to be seeking out vids of Damon on youtube. Seems you still think he's relevant...and you'd be right.

If you think the Lost ending was 'a piece of shit ending' then you are literally a piece of shit yourself
They weren't dead the whole time.
