    Any idea how to adjust it? Your video helped me take out the old one and put new one in. Shifter and transmission lever were in park. It seamed to shift fine except wonr8go into 1st. Also when I was leaving work it acted like it wasn't going to shift. It was really hard but I forced it to. When I got home it shifted back and forth fine.....weird

    • @alyoungcuda
      @alyoungcuda  4 года назад +2

      You probably had it in the wrong position either too far back or forward..it just needs to move alittle to make the adjustment

  • @bryepayton8289
    @bryepayton8289 Год назад +1

    I removed everything as you did and worked fine. After starting and driving it for one day, the shift lever started to do the same thing before and won’t properly go into gears.
    Now ‘Park’ is reverse, ‘Neutral’ is neutral, ‘Drive’ is drive. So the issue is not being able to put the truck into Park. The cable is fine. I actually took one back and got another one just in case it was default.
    Got any ideas? O2 sensor is fine, nothing out of the ordinary was removed or taken out.

    • @alyoungcuda
      @alyoungcuda  Год назад +3

      Double check everything, I would disconnect the cable at the transmission link, manually place the transmission in park and see where the cable is , if properly adjusted it should line up.

    • @bryepayton8289
      @bryepayton8289 Год назад +1

      Scratch what I said above…I figured it out. I had to ‘lock’ the clip at the end of the Shift Cable that is connected to the transmission side. As soon as I locked it in, the gear lever worked like new. ‘Park’ is no longer reverse and all other gears shift perfectly! Thank you again for this video!

    Would you recommend wrapping it with additional heat tape?

    • @alyoungcuda
      @alyoungcuda  7 месяцев назад +2

      You can, it won't hurt, but the main culprit was the bracket that broke and sent the cable close to the exhaust manifold

  • @bigmoose2point0
    @bigmoose2point0 Год назад +1

    How do you adjust the plastic piece? Brand new cable but it isn’t reaching park.

    • @alyoungcuda
      @alyoungcuda  Год назад +2

      It's been awhile since this was done but the adjustment is on the plastic end at the transmission end, I believe you pop up a clip on the plastic part and that allows you to slide the adjuster to match your position on the shift linkage and then pop back down the clip to lock it in place.

    Hello. We replaced one last year, and it has recently "broke", so we replaced it, and the replacement broke/tore. We discovered that the manifold burned through the heat shield, and now wondering if we are supposed to some how tuck it in so it does not touch the manifold. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

    • @alyoungcuda
      @alyoungcuda  5 лет назад +2

      Definitely tie it away from the exhaust manifold..but also buy an exhaust wrap sold at the local autozone, you can wrap the cable in that area to keep the heat out..the wrap comes in a roll and it's made out of a thermo heat resistant material..works out well..try it..you did place it in the metal clip that is factory there to hold it away

    • @alyoungcuda
      @alyoungcuda  3 года назад +1

      Are you talking about the end of the cable underneath by the transmission?..its because its new plastic..some people use a pliers to squeeze it in..and apply some grease or lubricant

    My Shift cable went out as well. Only the part that attaches to the transmission broke. I took my old one out and just ordered the new cable. What position of the transmission did you attach the cable to? (Neutral, Park, etc.)

  • @edochs4505
    @edochs4505 4 года назад +2

    The toughest part of the whole replacement is getting the grommet seated back in. It wouldn't "bore" most people to have a section on that. Weak.l

  • @lambition
    @lambition 6 лет назад +1

    Is that shift cable really supposed to be rested on top of exhaust manifold? I found this problem with my truck as well. Luckily I found before it was too late and it melted outer insulation only. I cable tied it off to one of the hole on the transmission because I could not figure out how it was supposed to be mounted. Sealed melted insulation with silicone.

    • @alyoungcuda
      @alyoungcuda  6 лет назад +1

      It should be Away from the manifold..if you look closely there is a clip on the transmission that holds it away..it should be shown in the other video I made if the same truck..

    • @alyoungcuda
      @alyoungcuda  6 лет назад +3

      The shift cable has nothing to do with the engine stalling out...if you messed up the adjustment of the cable it will not start in park or neutral...I would clean out the throttle plate on your truck..a dirty plate will cause a stall with no codes or check engine light on...are you sure you didnt accidentally unplug or knocked something off?..take a good look at the area you worked near..like that o2 sensor
