Considering nowadays cigar boxes are small and made of cheap laminate (if not pressed cardboard) there's no other option. I even made one with spruce top.
I really like the simplicity of a cigar box style guitar, but to see one built from end to end with just the basics seems to make me believe that anybody that takes their time and puts forth a reasonable effort could build one...! Makes me want to start collecting scrap pieces and springing for a few electrical parts... Thank a Bunch and I love your video and your skills..!!
at first I didn't think this video was going anywhere but kept watching. I am amazed that you made such a cool sounding guitar out of what you have. 10/10 and a new fan and subscriber.
far out Dude ! i was thinking about Designig me a White Bird Shaped one and name it "The FreeBird" to tribute Lynyrd Skynyrd since ther my fav band that I look up to in life and keep me alive , u showed us thers hope to build any guitar out ther in our dreams and have us not risking our lives to these lowlifes that scam us for an expensive guitars , Thank U Friend ! Niiiiice build! very inspiring. i've been cheating and using cigar boxes with pre-cut red oak and poplar for necks and fret boards. but your neck build has inspired me to try something different... thanks for taking the time to make this one and share!!
Very very cool! I so want to make one of these. I bought 2 cigar boxes a couple years ago exactly for this purpose. I definitely need to get started on it! Thanks for sharing!
when i was watching the video i asked myself if i can hear how it sounds in the end,but finally it was really amazing as the great job thanks for sharing
A very effective selection of "hybrid" woodworking skills accompanied by some cool blues and a terrific outcome to the project. Congratulations, liked and subbed.
Scrap wood City no worries, it was not intended the way some trolls have spurted out. I love building from junk... I have endless boxes of junk I hope to find as good uses for as you. Keep up the great builds.
so amazing.... I just got into wood working , making a staff ..... you have so many awesome tools. I wish my highschool had woodshop as a class. I probably would have headed in a better road in life.
That was a WONDERFUL vid, my friend, and a great axe! In the sound clip at the end, it has a bit of a droning voice, a little bit like a sitar. Thanks for posting--I am not coming up with good boxes lately (cheap cardboard cigar boxes) and was thinking on the next build, to build the box too, and go all out--build the pickup and the whole thing. Your vid was a real inspiration. thanks for posting.
Hey ssup!!.. Apart from making your own guitar u also showcased some simple and advanced wood working techniques and equipment... cleared a lot of my doubts.. the box part of the guitar inspires me to make a simple case for an arcade joystick!! Thanks & God Bless!!
I'll be honest here. I really would like to make this, but even though I love making my own stuff, I'd probably REALLY injure myself. I'm super clumsy so me + sharp things = basically death.
Man I need to build one of these it looks so liberating not having to be precise with your measurements, cuts, and procedures. I build electric guitars and it can be daunting at times knowing that if the measurements are off even slightly it will have adverse effects on the build. These cigar box guitars look like fun, I'm not discounting your skills as a craftsman by the way, this is a great video. I'm just saying it would be nice to build an instrument without it having to be perfect to play. Cool video.
Thanks man. I agree with you. But that's the way it is when your an amateur and build things just for fun. Professional work is always much more demanding!
Wow! You are a real hack ! and I gave you a thumbs up for your effort, and producing this nice video showing anyone can build a CBG ! A couple years later now, since you posted... I'll bet your skills have improved, and you are entertained by this early vid ! Good for you ! I'll bet you have learned a lot! Best rc
+Rusty Case thank you very much! I believe I have improved on my woodworking and perhaps I make a revised version of this guitar one day! Who knows we'll see!
I would encourage you to continue with regular small projects in wood, no matter what your focus does become. It will keep you in touch with nature, and all that fine stuff. Pick up a new tool here and there, improve your skills, create something of lasting value, for others to enjoy... Win win ! ...Try making a kalimba using bicycle spokes. Best rc
Great video, what did you use for your electrical components? I'm wondering what I would need, besides the wood parts? Any help would be great. I don't play guitar, its for my grandson. Is that a pickup you installed under the strings? I don't even know the terminology.
+HOSSMCGILLICUTTI Thanks! Check the description of the video, you will find a link to my blog article about the guitar. You'll will find many more information on the project, there!
Derek Jolliffe i don't remember the way I tuned it on the video. I usually tune it in a way that I have a major or a minor chord triad when I hit all the strings open!
just watched again,I was hoping once you finished it,you would join in with the background music, still love the vid, gave me some ideas on my new build, thanks mate

I am glad you liked it
Considering nowadays cigar boxes are small and made of cheap laminate (if not pressed cardboard) there's no other option. I even made one with spruce top.
What you're doing is beyond art. You are giving life to the wood.I'll try to make my own guitar. Thank you for this awesome video.
Stay safe.
Thank you very much
Fantastic! I really love the headstock design! Reminds me of how I did stuf like this 41 years ago when I was 15....❤ Love it, thank you!

Muito legal quando agente faz algo atingindo nosso objetivo, fazendo também outras pessoas deslizes com músicas é sons diferentes.
Great video and process. i love the sound. The sound is the most important creation about the guitar. That is a fact.....Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching

scaring the hell out of me at 2:30. First timers don't do that! Secure the piece to the bench with clamp. Awesome video though! Cool build
Yeah, a couple of the shots where the piece is moving freely made me wince saefty-wise.
Zac Keane meeeee toooo! and a couple of the scenes with the scroll saw, too !!
Well that sounded very good for the homemade electric guitar
