      I could be wrong but I didn't take that as him being rattled by this meeting, or by what Hank knows. How does Gus' supposed involvement in the chilean government make that line a threat? What would a veiled threat even accomplish in this situation?

    • @Lowbarful
      @Lowbarful Месяц назад +20

      @yersiniapestis5237 Gus is saying it in a tone that seems harmless. As in literally, "You'll eventually find records of me if you look hard enough."
      But since we know Gus is ruthless, it could also be interpreted as, "If you continue to find evidence that I'm a criminal, you'll be in my crosshairs."
      Hank firmly believes Gus is a meth kingpin (or at least heavily associated with and funding one) as this point in time.
      Gus is pretending to be oblivious to the DEA and police but we all know that he *also* knows that Hank is getting close to the truth.
      His statement is something that innocently answers the question for everyone else in the room, but implicitly could be interpreted as a threat to Hank if he doesn't stop digging.

      @@yersiniapestis5237 Great question. We know that Gus is capable and willing to brutally murder people. Perhaps he was an excellent killer for the Chilean government at the time. He knew that he just had to convince the PR-conscious high-ranking suits in the department of his innocence, not lowly field agents like Hank and Steve, who have no real authority to make big decisions. Of course the suits bought Gus's story, he was a huge donor to the DEA/APD.

    • @macewindau3060
      @macewindau3060 Месяц назад +3

      Gus knew the conversation was going there anyway, he knew Gale was dead, so did the cops & Gus knew there was a possibility of his prints at the crime scene. So by voluntarily offering this information he acknowledges his presence at Gales apartment, but at the same time absolves himself (in terms of the cops suspicions) of his involvement in the murder that took place there. His mentioning of the crime being drug related at the end as kind of a question also serves two purposes, one to create an illusion of ignorance regarding the issue at hand, therefore again minimizing suspicions placed on Gus by the cops & two to find out what other information the cops did or didn’t have regarding the murder, the cop mentioned in the beginning it was drug related, Gus didn’t forget that was mentioned, also he already knew it was, Gus was a slippery one indeed

    • @kronos9186
      @kronos9186 Месяц назад +1

      @@macewindau3060 Very true, however, the cops mentioned a drug related homicide and Gus apparently instantly knew it was related to Gale - Although he himself states that Gales death being drug-related was not in the papers. So how did he know that this whole thing was about Gale without being involved into the drug matter and the murder too? Pretty sure that’s what OP meant.

    • @macewindau3060
      @macewindau3060 Месяц назад

      Gus knows because the cops just told him, but the reality is Gus knew what the interrogation was about before it started. He can’t deny he wasn’t in Gales apartment, but the story Gus gives the cops implies that Gale was the one involved in nefarious activities & that he had no knowledge of what those nefarious activities were. Listen carefully, Gus never explicitly mentions drugs until he pretends to ask about it, he presents a supposition for the police & lets them draw their own conclusions. It’s assigning blame to Gale & since Gale isn’t there to dispute Gus’ account & the cops have no other evidence, the cops to accept Gus testimony which of course absolves him, hell he’s even got a legit alibi for the murder, Gus gives a masterclass in evasion tactics in this scene

      @@kronos9186 Yep exactly! The replies are confused about what we mean I think and their responses against it make no sense and keep focusing on different points.
