@wach3610 definitely isn't. I flied with ITA airways last month, never again. Ofc with annoying screaming kids on the plane every flight will be awful. But having comfort in your own seat and good earphones is still a good start.
One of your endearing qualities whether on land, sea or air is that you do not hesitate to have seconds or thirds when you eat. You’re just like me. If I’ve paid for it, I’m eating it. Love your reviews. Cheers, Colin.
I live in LA and I thought the people in Japan around the Tokyo area are taller than we are here in the states. Statically they are 1.5" shorter as a country, but I think it's different in Tokyo as I was surprised to see so many people there over 6 feet tall.
@@Saidakine The Asian carriers are way more humane to passengers than Western ones are. All JAL Sky Wider seats have a minimum of 33 inches and up to 34 inches. My WestJet 737, 787-9, Air Canada A220, and 787-9 economy seats only offered 30 inches.
Yes agreed. JAL has the most spacious economy seats of ALL airlines. The space can match premium economy i must say. You need even more space? Stop whining & pls buy business class seats.
It seemed like you had a lovely, relaxing flight back to Japan. Solo san brings a smile😊 to my face when he tries his first bite and we see the double '!!' 🥰...Impressive amount of food he can pack away!
Your travel videos are the best and the only ones I watch anymore! There are so many reasons why. I love the written out captions, which eliminates trying to understand someone's foreign accent. Plus if there's a word I've never heard of, I can pause the video and look it up. Your sense of humor is hilarious! And the wide variety of places you showcase, from Canada to the Swiss Alps, and of course Japan. And your photography is so professional. Thank you so much for all you do to take us to these beautiful vacation spots!!
I'm afraid you're being confused with other creators. I have not been to Canada or Switzerland in my channel. I would appreciate it if you wouldn't confuse me with anyone else. Thank you very much. STJ
The first time i took JAL was when as a kid, i won their haiku competition which had me flying to japan for a haiku summit on their airlines. It was such a memorable flight because the crew took great care of me and it was overall a great start to a once in a lifetime experience (meeting kids from other countries, writing haikus together, playing at the beach, going on a mountain retreat(??) etc hahaha) Thanks for this video!
I once travelled by British Airways Dreamliner from Chennai to London by Economy Class. Seating was cramped, bad leg-space. The ten hour journey was quite uncomfortable. Dreamliner with 9 abreast seating is inhuman. Someone should have gone to court to prevent the airlines to do these atrocities
Do the 3-3-3 seats still sell well? It's hard to imagine any airline deliberately upsetting customers with inferior comfort if it's going to cost them money. Are the cramped planes still good enough value to keep 'bums on seats'?
Very nice video of your JAL Flight to Tokyo! Wow, economy class is spacious! I worked for Delta Airlines @LAX for 20 years and would often eat at the nearby IN-N-OUT 🍔 🍟
This is exactly what I’ve been hoping to see! I want to use JAL for my trip to Japan next year and I was curious to see what their economy flight was like from LAX. The fact that they employ a 2-4-2 seat configuration makes a huge difference in terms of comfort and space. Thank you for sharing another helpful video 😊👍🏼🌸
It’s an airplane. That’s it. A plane. With check in. security up your anus. Never pleasant. Even private, still sterile cramped unchimp friendly. We need boats. Trains. Specialty regional restaurants , not commercial freakin plane.
Retired now, but NRT was one of my "stop-overs" on my way to other Asia/Pacific countries (company rules that any flight travel over 8 hours bumped us to business class, so never flew economy). Although 11 hours isn't all that long........not when one has a 27 hour flight, not sure I would opt for economy. 😊 NRT is a GREAT airport for a lay-over, by the way. Thanks for the journey, STJ! It's fun traveling with you! P.S. Not sure how you stay so thin! 😍👍👏✨❤

I hope you had a pleasant visit to Orange County! This video is very helpful for us, since we usually fly economy to Tokyo. We actually have some decent curry restaurants around here, it would be fun to see you do a curry video from SoCal on your other channel sometime. :)
My favorite international economy seat among all the airlines whether it's operated using the 787 or 767. Even the premium economy on the 787-9 is by far the best premium economy
The music when you board JAL is my absolute favorite. David Foster captured the feeling of going home so well! You really can't settle for any other airline after flying JAL.
I usually fly JAL (a fantastic experience all around) but recently flew ANA on an 8-hour international flight and back. No comparison. The experience was much less than wonderful. I'll be sticking with JAL in the future.
When I first flew JAL LAX-HND in 1976, it was on a B747. The oshibori were rolled individually, not in cellophane wrappers, and hot. That was just the beginning. The difference in the caliber of in-flight service between JAL and US airlines was stunning. They even managed to make the return flight on a "stretched" DC-8 relatively comfortable -- and that was no easy feat! Since then, it looks as if JAL fell behind ANA, but they seem to be making a comeback. It's good to see.
Because of your channel, I am landing in Narita next Monday!!! I am beyond excited! I started watching your awesome little mini movies over a year ago on binge mode, then over again. I obsessed until I took control of my destiny and booked a flight to Japan. I’ve made my own Itinerary and purchased my JR pass before the price almost doubled, and thrifted my ultra Japan wardrobe, and I’m ready to LET’S GO TOKYO (Kyoto, kofu/Yamanashi, and Minobu too!) 🫶🏻 Thank you for all of the beautiful inspiration.
Nice trip report, thank you. It does look much better than most economy product. Also if you buy economy flex fare or premium economy you also get lounge access which I don't think any other carrier does this!
You really lucked out not having someone next to you on such a long flight. Surprised that they didn't offer earplugs. I flew Qantas last month and they offered them both ways. Looked like a fantastic flight.
Sorry for your delay. Jal has one of the best on time performances. Any explanation what went wrong this time? I appreciate that when the captain apologizes and explains. This what makes airlines get good ratings too. Thank you for eating well also. I would have gone back to the lounge and get a first class lounge lunch by the way
I love JAL. Economy class seats are spacious. By the way, I took the co-share flights on AA. Not too bad as I prefer the night flight to arrive to the destination in the morning.
I haven't had the opportunity to fly with JAL, but I have flown long haul (10+ hours) with Lufthansa, SAS and KLM, all in Economy and in my experience, Economy on long haul flights is generally really good (especially compared to shorter flights) I've done my long hauls in Airbus A340 and Boeing 747 and I much prefer those aircrafts over Boeing 737 or the smaller models of Airbus used in short to medium flights. I do find A340 to be more comfortable than 747, but both are good even on a 10-11h flight. Not sure if I'd fare as well now though as I have (more severe) chronic pain now compared to when I went on my long trips and I now struggle to sit for long due to pain so if possible, I'd go with business class if I have a long flight simply to be able to recline the seat more, I really don't care about the other bonuses of business class or first class, Economy is all good in my book, I just need to be able to lie down or semi lie down due to my condition. That said, I'd be happy to try JAL Economy one day, maybe even to Japan if my boyfriend and I are able to go there sometime. The seat looks like it might even be somewhat comfortable for my boyfriend who's about 2 meters tall (Dutch) and for me at 174cm tall (I'm almost considered tall for a Swedish woman) the extra leg space would definitely be nice compared to my previous long haul flights that were good but definitely could have used a few more cm of leg space. But for my boyfriend's sake, I'd probably try to book seats with extra leg room in Economy just because of his height. I'm also one of those maybe weird people who actually likes the in-flight meals when flying. I don't get why people complain so much about the food onboard, it's an airplane with very limited space and over 1000 meals on board (if you're on one of the really big planes), it's not a restaurant with a full kitchen... In-flight meals are really good for what they are. The food on this flight looked really good imo
Solo san, I am incredibly sorry about your Big breakfast at the start of your trip. Thats kinda small for Australian Standards. Our big breakfast in all our cafe's in Australia Fill up the plate, almost overflowing. That bacon was a questionalble colour unless its the lighting. I like your optimism during your delay, Some of us would have lost it by now xD AND your right, that economy class is awesome. Maybe i should try a Japanese airlines from Aust next time.
The meal at the lounge looked a little sad despite also looking decently tasty or something I would put together myself. You just got us so used to prettier plates it seems :p
Flying international, ANA is really good too. JAL tray table design will be better if they have a small cut thru hole that can secure their drinking cup and won't move around on the tray or the passenger don't have to hold onto the cup. ANA has the cup hole on the tray and a 34" leg room that no other international airline has it.
Over a 46-year business flying career I travelled almost 1.5 million miles. That's not much compared to serious "road warriors," but it was enough to expose me to the best and worst flying experiences. The best was between '86 and '93 when I did 22 trips from Phoenix to Taiwan in either business or 1st class. The worst were the later trips to Europe and within the U.S. in coach, especially after 9/11 when security lines and other issues made the airports hellholes. I don't miss it a bit, but do enjoy your videos. They are exactly as close as I ever want to get again to air travel -- thank you for them.
Every time I look out of my kitchen window and see the sunflower I can hear the sunflower ferry song 😂 It’s growing in a small gap in the path, a seed dropped by a bird. I didn’t have the heart to pull it up
Yes, you should try In N Out the next time you're in California. They're an icon, particularly in the southern part of the state. Opinions vary but most people enjoy the very fresh lettuce, tomato and onions they use.
Another pleasant journey, although I had to rush into the kitchen to make myself a chicken Madras [curry] with turmeric rice and chappatis after watching this. An STJ video without a yummy curry course just doesn't seem quite right, somehow... 😁
Even though I was watching this in the afternoon, that breakfast you had looked amazing. Were you in Anahiem for the Band-Maid show by chance? I don't know when you filmed this. The 2-4-2 configuration looks really comfortable. I've flown JAL from NRT-LAX a few times but always in the 3-3-3.
In the case of Boeing 777, other airlines use 3-4-3, but Japan Airlines uses 3-3-3. This is to make the seats wider, similar to the 2-4-2. I'm Japanese, so I'm sorry if my English is not good.
Welcome to my home airport. Sorry you had to eat Panda Express. We consider that pretty bad food and try to avoid it. Unfortunate your plane got delayed.
Next time you are in LA and have time, take a side trip to San Diego, find a Robertos Mexican fast food place and order a Carne Asada Burrito. You will be very happy. Not as happy as if you were having curry, but still, very happy.
When someone running a kitchen is lazy and careless enough to send out something obviously burnt , it not only says a lot about them but also about the brand they’ve been hired to represent and provide a service for.. I think you said it’s called a ‘first class’ lounge, but judging by how huge the space is with lots and lots of seating for 100’s of people, it’s not what they say it is..I have no interest in Qantas in any way.. but I’m always interested to see vlogs about JAL and how good their products are.. it seems their long haul economy cabin is indeed a cut above the competition.. thanks for showing it to us ..🙏
Gosh, they delayed your flight for so long! That didn't look like too bad a flight really. I've never been on a plane so big, only the smaller 3-3 ones. Maybe one day I'll fly JAL!!! That looked like a super pleasant flight. You'll just have to come back to try in-n-out, though :) though, idk, I was disappointed the last time I tried a new chain - five guys' fries really aren't my cup of tea, tch.
I recently checked JAL prices and they've dropped quite a bit for return fares (might just be a sale though)...just a shame one way is so expensive (was thinking of trying another airline on the way back). But yeah, the economy seat looks very good, and being 2-4-2 is very nice considering how rare it is.
Nice ride. How are you able to eat so much and not explode? Two breakfasts, desert coffee, then a snack at a take-out. I would not survive. Curious as to why you did not make use of the window seat? You could have moved away from the isle, flipped up the arm rest and taken both seats quite comfortably. It is usually not a problem on most airlines. I have heard of some Lufthansa crew getting a little stinky about such a move from a colleague in the past few months. No reason for it really. As usual, thanks for sharing. And.. noted: "I am not sponsored." Ok then. Good for you. Enjoy the freedom of travel for as long as you can.
I just realized I'm so old that i remember when air travel was fun, exciting and possibly part of the vacation!

Great to see an economy review where the experience is great. JAL is a fantastic choice when travelling economy. Nice video too.
Great to see video on economy class. All the bloggers post mostly business class which only very people get to travel on
That is why I am only subbed to Simply Aviation. It's almost only travel and review economy experiences.
Agree!!!!
I've flown with JAL a few times. The service is amazing.
That economy class looks remarkably comfortable with more leg room than usual. I am glad you had a safe and pleasant trip home.
He must be small, I am 6’2 and my knees hit the seat in front of me. JAL seats are made for the Japanese.

And I'm hungry again. Even the light meal looked better than some airplane food I've gotten!
I'll fly with JAL soon and I also choose the last row seat , were you able to recline your seat?
That’s pretty good that pretty much the whole flight was in the dark, except for departure, due to the time difference. 😀✈️
New one! Love these
The second meal looks delicious
Next time you are in LA and have time, take a side trip to San Diego, find a Robertos Mexican fast food place and order a Carne Asada Burrito. You will be very happy. Not as happy as if you were having curry, but still, very happy.
The bacon in the Qantas lounge was a monstrosity and I'm sorry that you had to experience that.
Hello. Could you tell me if, at Jal, on the latest seats like yours, the backrest can recline or if it is locked ?
Merci ❤
omg you were in Anaheim and didn't stop by to say hello?? I'm so hurt! I would've loved to go on a foodie tour with you!!! :) :)
💺 Seats Should be Cushioned & Comfortable 👍
Watching the flight map and the plane icon moves so slow makes me crazy.
JAL's Econ class is ranked #1 wth 34" pitch; van never go wrong with them.
When someone running a kitchen is lazy and careless enough to send out something obviously burnt , it not only says a lot about them but also about the brand they’ve been hired to represent and provide a service for.. I think you said it’s called a ‘first class’ lounge, but judging by how huge the space is with lots and lots of seating for 100’s of people, it’s not what they say it is..I have no interest in Qantas in any way.. but I’m always interested to see vlogs about JAL and how good their products are.. it seems their long haul economy cabin is indeed a cut above the competition.. thanks for showing it to us ..🙏
What time was the original boarding? I missed that. Thank you
What did he do in LA?
Probably visited
Why go to Korean Town’s hostess bar of course!
I love Japan Airlines
Hope you had a decent time in our neck of the woods!
Zipair is run by them and is also very affordable.
Starlux is Taiwanese and quite a good value too.
You get what you pay for.
Very nice trip; I will have to try JAL st least once. Food on ANA is also good. Air Canada was ok, but no Japanese options, too bad.
Great trip.
im jealous, i just returned from my 5 months study abroad trip in tokyo, i want to go back as soon as possible!!!
It's so funny hearing English in the background!
14:45 itadakimasuu ❤❤
Great video! Thanks
