Why did I walk away from this job??

  • I attended this job after reports of a smell of gas where the tenant had been trying to trace it themselves with a can of LDF. They had the mentality that if they couldn’t smell the gas was coming somewhere then it didn’t matter if it was leaking!
Have a watch and see how many leaks I find and what causes me to walk away from the job!
Please, if you’re not Gas Safe Registered, do not tamper with your gas installations - call a professional!
    Thanks for watching!!

Ldf the hob injector - the gas sniffer can pick up residual gas from the gas tap- held in the bundy pipe. Cadent often cut off a gas hob - i follow behind them to find the leak else where. Totally agree with you returning, as you said it was your name on the job as last registered engr on site. Great content.

That’s a fair point and I probably should have shown that in the video! I sprayed some Regin Leak shot on it and had some bubbling. You’re 100% right I often have this with the gas sniffer almost being too sensitive - once picked up readings on a gas pipe that’s been dead for 25 years!
Really appreciate you watching and commenting 🙏🏽

Great video. Made me laugh when you said about tenants been noisy... I fit 3 radiators other week and when I filled it up owners decided to start running the taps and have the loud telly on, it's not what I needed as I was on high alert for the sound of droplets! This house was like a show house aswell and radiators upstairs... we need complete silence when doing these types of jobs.. sound silly but your hearing and senses are on high alert, you could hear a cockroach fart.

You’re so right! I thought I was unusual but I never work with music or anything - especially if I’m doing something unusual or how you’ve just mentioned! Question is…were there any droplets? (I have complete confidence you were fine!)

I only went back to take more time stamped pics so I could prove how I left it again - otherwise I wouldn’t have even attended a second time - got paid for both visits though 😅 Appreciate it! Thank you for commenting!

Thank you! Turns out the “repair” on the hob was just the fact they couldn’t smell gas coming from it directly (not sure how they knew as it was less than 1m away from the boiler anyway) despite the gas detector picking up a reading from the burner! But because in their head they couldn’t smell it from there, they got a friend to reconnect!

Bravo for binning that one off mate. I bet that would have failed when testing anyway, as both boiler and hob look to be connected using 15mm pipe down below the hob with the boiler tee'ed off. My eagle eye also spotted the pan supports around the wrong way on the hob also, the support would be sitting directly in the flame if used like that.

Didn’t even spot that myself but you’re right! In all honesty, I have no doubt that they got it reconnected the minute SGN left! Very shoddy and as bad as it sounds, glad they attended after me so it’s not my problem 😂 thank you for watching!

I feel the pain best think to walk away when you know someone is willing to tamper. With these types of situations we never get paid enough for our time.
