    HOW I REVIEW:
    As you might know from my „How I make a buying decision“ video: Rather than just looking at the pros, I like to evaluate the cons or flaws of an item and then evaluate if I can live with them. That is why in my video reviews I concentrate more on the cons of an item rather than going over all the features. Therefore everything shown is just a fraction of all the points that go into the verdict and score of an item.
    DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A QUICKLOOK AND A REVIEW:
    A Quicklook usually covers pre-production units or items that I only used for a short period of time. While Reviews cover final items that I have reviewed intensively.
    LINKS:
    For all my videos I decided not to include links for the products. Everyone is living in different countries and therefore has to deal with different shipping and customs fees. That is why I would advice everyone just to Google the product within their country to find the best deals.
    For instance: I live in Germany, It wouldn’t make sense to give you a German link while you might be living in USA or Asia. I hope that is understandable.

    The Rhake is actually an amazing bag. If anybody is carrying around their iPad without some sort of hard case in a bag then they deserve to have their iPad cracked or broken. I work in long 12 hour days and commute by bus and carry my computer and iPad on my back to and from work, rain or shine. My computer and iPad are both wearing Urban Armour Gear hard shell cases and they are both very comfortable fitting inside the Rhake with room to spare - vertically - just go up and use the rucksack part of the bag and pack higher. The outside straps are more of a style add-on with cobra buckles than a practicality but i've actually tightened them up a few times myself to keep things secure. They do not allow for external storage. The top zippers on the outside pockets do act like a bit of a water reservoir sometimes in the rain but not enough to make a big deal about it really but they have never leaked unless it's because of user error. I always make sure they are zipped and everything inside is dry to the bone even in total rain storms. My computer is totally padded and protected in the back part and even recently I slipped and fell on some black ice right onto my hip and part of my back with all of my gear and still it was all perfectly protected without a scratch or a dent even though it did take some of the impact. The bag is the most comfortable and properly weighted/levelled computer bag that i've ever owned and is incredibly useful and waterproof. I've been wearing mine every single day for the last 6 months since summer and I can't say a bad thing about it. I have 3 other Mission Workshop bags and this is by far my favourite for what I need and the most badass.

    I ordered the bag and I think I was in the second batch when they sent them out. They sent me a nice can we bump you to the next set of bags and gave me a discount that paid for the cobra buckles I ordered with the bag.
    The Cobra Buckles are so much nicer and cooler than the plastic buckles and they come off with literally a swipe.
    Having said that those buckles straps are an oddball set of compressions straps very easy to use. I kind of wish they had been routed behind the structured bags outer organizer instead over them. That would have made the organizer pockets more independent and more accessible.
    The only real criticism I have of the bag that's an issue is the top strap to lock down the role is really insanely short. It totally assumes that you have the rolltop rolled up. If you have the bag packed and want just the very top of the roll to just close over anything the strap comes nowhere near the top.
    An extra loop near the top of the bag or a strap that's adjustable would have made it usable in any other configuration.
    I've been thinking of getting more cobra buckles and just adding my own strap that's long enough
    Outside of all that I love the bag

    I love the design of the bag, I just wished the two pockets were more accessible and that the two flaps in the front could've served as external carry.
    Usually their bags are optimized for bike messengers, so I would've liked to see those two front straps to be able to carry skateboard, or a bike wheel, or an oversized box for instance

  • @bradleywoody2624

    Always love your videos, Bo. I am officially off the missionworshop band-wagon. Their designs are so self indulgent and impractical. There is virtually no depth to this pack so if you put anything fragile, i.e. an Ipad as mission workshop suggests into the outside slip pocket that sits behind those two poorly designed organizer panels, than the contents of the main bag will push into and potentially put undue stress on your fragile tablet. As for those outside organizer pockets...do those clips that you have to unbuckle serve a purpose? do they expand and allow you to strap things to the outside of the bag? I appreciate your comment about water pooling on top of those stormguard zips that seal the admin panels shut; seems obvious but mission workshop is designing for style, in a vacuum, and they would not have noticed. Honestly if Mission workshop would just let other people design their bags, they could still build them because the build quality and material selection is top-notch. Just sees wasted on such poorly designed bags. Rant over.

      I concur. Looks like a usability disaster. It doesen't even look good (in my opinion). And I don't see how the outrageous price would be justified.

    • @bradleywoody2624
      @bradleywoody2624 6 лет назад +1

      ya it is by far the least attractive thing they have ever put out. more than anything they are masterful at building up a wall of reputation to protect their very poor designs. The Sanction is ok BUT that front pocketing layout is a disaster; 3+ pockets all meet at the same place in the bottom of the bag...I get geeky about it but I see so many huge whiffs from an otherwise really well equipped company and then they ask you to pay $350 as though that somehow justifies it..

      Serious question: is there a bag you'd recommend?

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  6 лет назад +2

      Hey Bradley.
      THanks for watching my videos. Glad that you like them.
      And thanks for the indepth comment. I agree with you on some of the parts. The design does get in it's own way sometimes. And the price definitely is quite steep, but I have to say that after having tested so many bags and having learnt a bit about how bags need to be made and how difficult it can be, I can't be that angry at the price any more. Moreover, the stitching and material choices of Mission workshop is actually quite good. That being said, from a consumer standpoint seeing the competition AND agreeing with you on the design "flaws" (quotationmarks, because this is of course a subjective topic) I can totally understand that the price seems rather high.
      To answer your question regarding the straps: THose are just compression straps and are not able to hold other items as far as I can tell.
      Again: Thanks for the comment. Really like speaking with you all about this kind of stuff.
      Cheers, mate!

    • @bradleywoody2624
      @bradleywoody2624 6 лет назад +3

      You are asking me or Bo? I acknowledge that the choice is inherently subjective. It is based on a combination of looks and features that fill the needs you want filled..You may like the way this bag looks and it may be organized and designed in a way that meets your needs. I have to believe that Someone on the MW design team felt that way or they wouldn't have even drawn it up. A couple recommendations that come to mind and that are equally if not more durable are the Triple Aught Design Litespeed; not everyone is crazy about the tacti-cool look nor the modularity thing. I owned the bag for a while and it's completely indestructible and even without utilized the modularity component, it was a super versatile day pack (only mediocre for lap top carry. I currently run a bag from Trakke and I cannot say enough about the durability and the sheer sex-appeal (not important to everyone I know) of this bag. What it lacks in organization, it makes up for in understated functionality; it's an open platform perfect for people who like poches and inception packing. Everyone raves about Goruck. I think they are a little tooo popular, too tacti-cool without having any real functional advantage for being so but they are totally bomb-proof. Maybe also check out Lexdray (more is more approach), Bedouin Foundry (sexy, again), I think Bo could comment further on the Oppose This invisible backpack; its super clean and seems smartly designed. There is always Tom Bihn. Their designs are a little "magoo" as in not that cool looking but again, placing aesthetics aside you won't find a company that takes a stronger approach to build quality and attention to detail...Also, the Hanchor Pipe-T-1 seems like a really clever urban bag and their build quality is through the roof.

    Thanks for the review Bo. This bag was on the top of my list for my next bag, but with the negatives you pointed out I'm not sure I will get it, especially at the high price. My search continues. As always, keep up the great reviews.
    Kriega bags do a great job from keeping straps from flying around while riding. I still love mine and no matter how stuffed, it still feels light weight due to it's shoulder strap design.
    The Rhake is a very nice looking bag though.

    • @bikecommuter24
      @bikecommuter24 6 лет назад

      when I get ready for another motorcycle -general use backpack Kriega is at the top of the list, I go through backpacks every couple of years, I just wish they made one with a computer sleeve-compartment but I got a case for my MacBook so it is not a deal breaker. and I like the idea of being able to add pouches and cases as needed.

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  6 лет назад

      Hey Kevin,
      Yeah, I wouldn't recommend getting this one for riding. Kriega has figured out to deal with the strapends, but Velomacchi does it a little bit better. And while Kriega is great for riding, I have found a couple of flaws already whilst testing it. The R20 is not great for a laptop for instance. THis is due to the curve in the back, which is great for riding, but makes packing my gear a little difficult. Furthermore the front buckle is far inferior to the velomacchi. I just can't close it with one hand and looking away. I always fiddle with it so much. But other than that the bag has been great so far. Unfortunately, riding season is over and I can't test it properly on a bike

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  6 лет назад

      Kriega is great, but read the comment above. I would recommend to go with the Velomacchi if you want to carry a laptop.

    • @kevinankin
      @kevinankin 6 лет назад

      Bo Ismono I agree about your points on the Kriega. The Velomacchi though is way too expensive and still doesn't advertise a dedicated laptop compartment. It's pretty looking and the rolltop is great. Kriega's R25 and R30 have ample space for a laptop. For laptop carry I'd recommend one of their messenger bags. They carry on your back while riding and looks secure. For extra space you can attach the 5 L Drybags and you'd still spend less than the Velomacchi. 😉

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  6 лет назад

      +Kevin Ankin agreed. The price difference is an issue. But considering the features I think the price difference is reasonable. However, the Kriega is very good and I will hopefully be able to do a review soon

    Great review Bo! But...for the price and the design, this bag just doesn't make much sense to me. Obviously people are purchasing the bag but there are quite a few bags on the market that are far less complicated to open that still offer plenty of organization. Just my opinion though.

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  6 лет назад

      +M. Thanks, mate. I agree with you: there are definitely some other alternatives with a better price. The price on Mission workshop bags is always quite high. Albeit granted in a way if you consider the build quality and choice of materials Imho.
      The way you need to open the front organization is quite complicated, but very refreshing in design. Unfortunately, the design gets in the way and Form should follow function.
      Thanks for watching the video and sharing your own thoughts. Cheers, mate 😉 ✌️

    Hi ! Really nice review as always ! I watched a lot of them to decide which bag to choose, so you're really helping me here ! Thanks a lot ! It's been months and I narrowed my choice to three bags : the lbb peloton and breakaway (I know that you prefer the peloton, and I do too, but it seem to be really big, and i'm afraid that it would look weird on me (i'm 1,82m), like a giant turtle walking in the street ^^) and the rhake. Here's my question : how compare the rhake and peloton in term of size and comfort? Which one is bigger? And is there a big difference in size between the peloton and breakaway (just looking at the specs they are identical) thanks a lot ! Regards, Xavier

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  5 лет назад +1

      Hey Xavier,
      Thanks for watching my videos. The Peloton has been improved a bit since my review a couple of years ago. So I can't properly compare them. That being said: The Rhake is one of my favorite bags. Really comfortable and doesn't look overwhelming on my back (I am 170cm tall). But in terms of capacity the Peloton is definitely more spacious.
      There is a noticeable size difference between the breakaway and peloton. But between the Breakaway and the Rhake I would definitely go for the Rhake. And if it's between the Rhake and the Peloton it's really a matter of the capacity you are looking for

I really like your videos and l also like to use pouches or small zip bags that I pick up in different places. I'm trying to decide between the Rhake, Evergoods CPL24, or Alpha 31 (Wait until August). I will use the bag for commuting to work with my laptop, headphones, and dslr. I'd also want to carry CF cards, batteries, chargers, and other camera related accessories. The alpha 31 and CPL24 don't have as much organization in the pockets. I'd probably have to get smaller pouches. What do you think?

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  6 лет назад

      That's a very interesting question. I haven't tested the alpha 31, but it looks interesting. You probably know, that I like to use pouches to organize my stuff, but that will obviously add some extra costs. So if you want a lot of organizational compartments then the rhake might be your best bet.

    Does the back compress when empty would it be good to pack in a big travel bag then take the Dhaka out as a day pack

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  6 лет назад

      It does compress a little bit, but it has a pretty big footprint when empty. It does depend on the size of the bigger bag. Not sure if this would work well unfortunately

  • @ernestshu
    @ernestshu 6 лет назад

    How would you compare this bag to the other MS bags? I really do not like the look...
    I also wonder why they put these clips on top of the organization pockets? Maybe it is possible to remove them or cut them off?
    I remember tou reviewed the Life Behind Bars Peloton which impressed me with features. How would you compare it to the Rhake?

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  6 лет назад +1

      The Rhake kinda is a completely different look for Mission workshop in a way. But that is why I kinda like it. I do like their other designs as well, but this one is refreshing in a way.
      The straps are indeed kinda odd. They are compression straps, but I feel like it was a design choice that got in the way of function.
      The Peloton is a different beast with a way better price value. So overall the Peloton Asphalt is a better choice.

  • @brianche
    @brianche 6 лет назад

    How do you find the size of the bag? It looks a bit bigger than the GR1 and other bags I would think of for EDC. I was originally thinking of getting the Peleton Rolltop (mainly for EDC and occasionally for cycling) but that seems too big for EDC. I assume you think that the Rhake is a nice compromise in terms of size?

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  6 лет назад

      +brianche the rhake is actually quite big, bigger than the Gr1 21L. Probably about the same height as the peloton, so your assumption was quite correct. It really depends on your size and taste. I am only 170cm tall, so the rhake does look quite big on me. But the proportions of the bag aren't that bad for my size. As it is rather longer than wide it does not look too odd on my back, but that is definitely a matter of preference of course.

    Could the Arkiv rails be utilized to attach/detach another sternum strap from another company like from GoRuck or Topo Designs? I've been watching and rewatching this video along with the R6 video. One will soon be mine. muhahaha. Other than HT500, which the Rhake only comes in, there's the 1000D Nylon (not cordura) that the R6 comes in. Decision is easy if I go with the Rhake, but still not sure what to do if I go with the R6. Granted there is the 500D Cordura black camo for the R6. Decisions, decisions.

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  6 лет назад

      I don't think you could use the arkiv rail to attach an other brand's sternum strap unfortunately.
      In regards to the material choice: as long as you don't do a mud run or something totally crazy, I don't think you can go wrong with either of the materials ;-)

    Hello Bo, I have the LBB (your video in courage me!). Do you think the mission workshop it's a better bag? Better value? Thanks?

    • @Youknowthebo
      @Youknowthebo  6 лет назад

      Hey Tal,
      That's a tough question. While both are targeted towards the cyclist (that is not to say that you can use it in other scenarios as well of course) both do differ quite a bit. But the Rhake is definitely more expensive as far as I know. Also don't forget that you probably need to add custom fees and shipping to both bags, so I would say that cost would be the most determining factor, because you can't go wrong with either of them. That being said: From a feature and visual standpoint I do prefer the Rhake.

      Kevin Ankin thanks. I’ve seen a number of the reviews of this bag. But I’m looking for something that can hold two weeks worth of clothes and a little bit of tech.

    • @kevinankin
      @kevinankin 6 лет назад

      Keegan J Solomon travel packs are for those who are minimalist travelers especially on long trips. If you don’t mind washing clothes on your trip then the AER is great. See Bo's video on the ranger role for packing clothes. It revolutionized my packing. Any bag bigger than 45L can't be carried on the plane which I believe is the true meaning of a travel pack. But I'm guessing you are looking for one of those large hiking packs if you want to weeks worth of clothes.
