  • Today's video shows basic outline of the study program for titanium dioxide pigments in architectural paints and wood & trim paints. Tests are carried out on paint samples prepared in our laboratory in accordance with ASTM standards.
Our studies are used to determine the applications of titanium dioxide grades in accordance with the ASTM D476 classification, as well as comparisons to other manufacturers and to demonstrate differences through laboratory tests

👨‍🔬 The laboratory is located in Poland, but provides global services to producers of raw materials for architectural paints and paint producers from around the world.
🧪 On a daily basis, we test raw materials in various latex paint formulation systems. We specialize in case studies to introduce new raw materials to the market or to determine effective doses of existing raw materials.
📊 We prepare start point formulations, ladder tests and case studies for R&D departments, technical marketing departments and sales departments of raw material producers.
🔬 We also conduct independent tests on request for market paints, laboratory samples at the R&D stage, as well as benchmarking tests

Can you tell me what is the Dosage of Tatanium Dioxide in Matt paint ?

It is depending on which type of base you want to formulate (white, medium, transparent). Please find more details about formulating paints based on PVC and CPVC in our blog article paintlaboratory.wordpress.com/2022/10/12/formulating-of-latex-paints-using-the-relationship-between-pvc-and-cpvc/
There you can find some examples about amount of TiO2 in latex paint formulations

As a painter we encounter many different paints that used to have great opacity and now not so much... I was thinking of adding Ti2O, propylene glycol and emalsa bond together in common paint. Paints already have these components in them and I figured adding an aftermarket binder would be appropriate... am I just wasting my time? TYVM

No just buy a good expensive paint.

Do not add anything to the paint you have bought. If your paint does not have good opacity, change the paint. Adding TiO2, glycol and other ingredients without proper grinding will reduce a number of other properties, because you will reduce the binder content in the paint. I think you are wasting your time. Thanks and best regards, Artur Palasz

Well you can at add Titanium to white paint by just adding white pigment in the form of machine colorant- 4 oz of what in our color system know as KX color does indeed add a good amount of hiding power for those formulations that never had enough to start with. In our factory we would put about 2.6 lb of TiO2 per gallon, but most brands used less.

Hi, is it possible to know water capacity ratio for the 1kg tio2 powder that is suitable for painting productions?

    • @SpektrochemResearchLaboratory
      @SpektrochemResearchLaboratory  Год назад +2

If you want to prepare suspension of TiO2 for paint production, you have to prepare TiO2 concentrate (ca. 75 % by weight) but not only in water. You have to use surfactants as dispersing agents to separate all particles, appropriate grinding process (in bead-mill or cowless dissolver), defoamer, in-can preservative and thickners for stabilize particles.
My article about TiO2 grinding processes should be helpful for you flickread.com/edition/html/free/61a9fe2971ad0#28
      Good luck

If you are a novice, you need to use start point formulations, but well-prepared, that is, those with a lot of ladder tests results, i.e. different dosages of raw materials, different reference raw materials, etc. Then you can recreate such samples in your lab and see what changes if you start to adapt them to your needs. Use the starting recipes and case studies provided by the producers of raw materials for whom we develop such technical materials. Read books (such as Vincentz publishing), participate in webinars and conferences to be up to date with regulations and the latest new raw materials --- and of course subscribe to our YT channel.
      Good luck!
