    What is the Use of Meg (Mono Ethyl Glicol ) ?

    • @SpektrochemResearchLaboratory
      @SpektrochemResearchLaboratory  2 года назад +2

      MEG can be used to provide open-time as an OTE-additive, however PG (propylene glycol) is more commonly used. However, due to the classification of PG as VOC, the best solution are dedicated additives that extend drying and wet edge, such as special OTE-additives

    • @SpektrochemResearchLaboratory
      @SpektrochemResearchLaboratory  2 года назад +2

      The gloss in latex paints is closely related to PVC and the proportion of fillers that reduce gloss. An article on gloss and sheen adjustment in latex paints will be published soon, but we don't know yet when the publication date will be (we suspect 2022).

      @SpektrochemResearchLaboratory  2 года назад +1

      It is one of the most common coalescing agent (TMPDMIB), trade name by Eastman, that is used to lower MFFT in acrylic-based latex paints and styrene-acrylic emulsions. Its dose depends on the set level of MFFT reduction which is determined in accordance with ASTM D2354 using the Rhopoint MFFT-Bar, and then the dose should be verified and the dose should be corrected based on the prepared paints and the LTC (low-temperature coalescence) tests performed to verify that the coalescent dose is appropriate to form a paint film on a porous substrate at low temperatures (below the link to articles on how important it is to properly define MFFT and LTC).

    Is it correct to mix the paint on the last stage with high speed? Because waterbased acrylic dispersions are not resistant to high shear forces

    • @SpektrochemResearchLaboratory
      @SpektrochemResearchLaboratory  Год назад +3

      What you wrote is not entirely true. Most high-quality acrylic dispersions today are resistant to high shear forces, however, during let down, the anchor mixer used in the video does not cause shear because it involves using a dispersing disc, which causes potential shear.
      High shaft speeds when using an anchor mixer do not cause a problem here. So everything is fine.
      A bigger problem is the frequent addition of polymer dispersions to mill-base, which causes disturbances in the surfactants present in the dispersion and their coagulation, therefore polymer dispersions must not be added to mill-base, only mill-base to polymer dispersions.

Firstly, dispersing agents selected well in terms of the type of additive and the dose established by the lab. Moreover, rheology modifiers that provide stability over time.
