@@iagoArgentinaCABJ absolutely it’s a GREAT shame the two of them missed out. I can understand the Makelele omission as they’d back then ready established defensive anchor midfielders the likes of Karembeu, Petit & of course the skipper Didier Deschamps but Cantona’s stubbornness costed him a World Cup medal as Aimé Jacquet asked Eric to come & plays as Striker #9 but he declined the offer (mistake of his life)
Barça fan here. Prime Makelélé's (2000-2004) contribution was at 1 point in time the X factor of Real Madrid's success. Simply put, Real performed, as he performed. A BOSS in the midfield. The key piece of that Galacticos squad. Top 3 DMF of all-time with Rijkaard and Matthäus IMO. Never got the well-deserved recognition and respect from the club's front office though. What a pity...Should of came to Barça instead
The original N’Golo Kanté before Kanté himself was invented A late bloomer but what career to have Real Madrid on your CV & to one CL/La Liga as a Galactico 1st generation. Such a great shame as he arrived late (at 27) & departed early 3 years later. The morons in England didn’t know who Claude was till he signed for Chelsea at age 30 I spit the man was world wide Galactico playing for the most attractive/luxurious club in the world back then & a full France international player (the only knew Vieira) wow
Avec Vieira en 2006, c’est peut être la meilleure paire de milieux défensifs de l’histoire... j’essaye de trouver un duo aussi efficace qu’eux dans le domaine défensif, je ne vois pas... 🤔
They were thinking 'who needs a tactically balanced side when we can buy Beckham and make a massive profit from jersey sales and grow the Real Madrid name exponentially'. And people wonder why they only won a single UCL in that period
Flo understood the importance of Makelele and promised him a raise, it was the sporting director Jorge Valdano (according to Makelele himself) who had made him leave, because of racist disrespect. Funny how Mourinho got Valdano fired immediately in 2010.
Good player, that's all. I've never seen anything special in his football. He was a strong and fighting midfielder who had some skill with the ball, practically a "worse" N'golo Kante
good player my ass... I've seen him dominating the midfield several times, and not just playing for Real Madrid, I didn't forget him in Celta de Vigo making Juventus entire midfield, Deschamps included, looking like juveniles in the UEFA cup... Kanté is the lesser version of Makelelé
World-class defensive midfielder. One of the best of all time in his role. Legend!
one of the best defensive midfielders in the world
In history
Late 90's and early and mid 2000's great defensive midfielder...always underrated by media but well valued by teammates.
I love the soundtracks you choose for your videos.
You're certainly an 80's or 90's kid. This is sublime

You right so much fitting for the era. Something you would here in a fifa game
Fantastic Video. Also Chemical Brothers "Block Rocking Beats" is utterly perfect for a prime Makelele highlights vid.
Thank you!
I love this generation from France Barthez , Thuram , Vieira , Makelele , Zidane , Henry and Trezeguet they won everything 🇫🇷🇫🇷
Just a little correction my friend Makelele wasn’t included in either France 🇫🇷 98/2000 Euros unfortunately
@@DR-uq4hn I know but he should be like Cantona but unfortunately He retired too soon

@@DR-uq4hn Unfortunately Cantona cannot be part of this team but this generation of France beat the Brazil team in 1998 and 2006 Brazil had no chance
Was it their golden generation?
