    A forest can be a Great teacher. Sounds like it has taught you a bunch about soil. Comfrey is also beneficial to plant next to your fruit trees. Love the videos

      I have comfrey, and some rhubarb planted as companion plants around the trees. I use the comfrey as a chop and drop amendment, and one of my GSP's likes to grab a bite of comfrey from time to time.

      Thanks for watching. I will do my best to bring some videos. Almost ready to at least visit my riverfront land and off-grid cabin to give an overview of the work ahead at each location.

    Great tips on planting daffodils and garlic near the fruit trees. I love how the chipped wood protects from weeds and nourishes the soil. I am going to get some cedar chip mulch this year instead of black-colored hardwood mulch for the decorative beds around my home. I believe it will help reduce fleas and ticks from coming inside on my dog or on people. I'm going to surround my raised beds with cedar mulch as well to help rebel bugs, weeds and keep grass from growing. I heard PennyRoyal plants keep bugs away from homes when planted near entrances as well. I love growing herbs to help the garden. Every year, i plant French Marigolds around the vegetables in the raised beds, especially near the Tomato plants. I never have a bug problem. Also Cayenne Pepper plants are so healthy and ward off bugs too. I like using neem oil as well. It's cool that you have your own Kubota with all the accessories to haul out the trees. All the best 🌾

      They are awful destructive. Keep after 'em to keep the population in check.

    Rick, do you put bat boxes up to help combat the bugs? They sure can be brutal there and must be the number one deterrent for people moving to rural Maine. What do you do to combat them?

    • @richardtheriault7624
      @richardtheriault7624 9 дней назад

      Well I do have bat boxes around, but a few years ago our bat population took a drastic turn downward from something called the white nose syndrome. Our bats hibernate in caves in VT and NH and this fungal illness devastated our bat population. So there are not as many bats around anymore. Now it is a timing thing. There are times of the day and temperatures that are worse for bugs. I just do something else if they are too bad to deal with. Those times are few as I can tolerate them pretty well most of the time.
