I still can't believe the the guitar that got on my first try getting a silver sky SE, I know this guitar is made by CORT in Indonesia but this guitar would have never leave the PRS headquarters if Paul had seen it.

I just got one this week, here in Chile that finally a retailer brought them, and it came great. Frets are polished very well, all looks good, and I'm in the same camp as you, I really like the Silver Sky tuners.
I had the Core model earlier this year and tuners were great. And the core yes, is more refined and more premium, I remember as soon as I grabbed the core I say wow, yeah this is perfect as the McCarty 594 I had. The SE is not at that level, but it punches above its price for sure and Im very very happy, cos the Core wanted to keep it but didnt make much sensesince had another strat and couldn't justify both, but with the SE's price point its perfect and also gives me that Silver sky thing, so very satisfied. And amazing how easy to play these silver sky feels. cheers!

I was fortunate enough to choose between 5 of these out of the box at a store in Australia. Only one had a poor setup, nothing major. The rest were excellent in every respect. I chose a ‘moon white’ which is a superb guitar. I own 34 guitars, 23 from USA and 11 from Japan - this PRS SE is excellent. I would use in the studio and on gigs without worry. I agree on the tuners - I love them too - they feel great, don’t get sticky like steel ones and the guitar stays in tune perfectly.
It's a wonderful guitar, I'm glad you had that opportunity man. That's ideal. Choosing from a few until you get the one that speaks to you. I've been using mine in the studio and it's great!.
Just received mine and it looks and sounds great! No issues. That’s really disappointing that you received a bad one. Personally, I think you sound amazing on the second one! I really enjoy your playing! 👍

I say get rid of it in favorite for a brand that puts in more effort into QC. Schecter Nick Johnston is a better axe for the same money.
Sorry, but this is not my experience. I played several NJ's. 3 where sounding dead only one guitar was quite ok.
Order the same guitar (exact color as well) and after a few days of trying to fall in love with it . I just couldn’t . Quality was okay but not impressive . Order me a core model instead .

My action came a little high and I also had some scratchy frets but after playing they smoothed over some. So maybe just some crud on them, I’ll polish it off when I change strings.
Not a big deal, but I wonder if I'm expecting too much from PRS? I just got a squire strat, and it has CERO issues...
@@juancoronado yea, I was kind of expecting to not have to set it up out of the box given the PRS reputation. But at least I can say after setting it up and polishing the frets, it sounds and plays great… fretwork is nice and level as well.
My SE piezo turned up with the birds recessed & glue oozing out from under them. After going back to PRS it came back & the inlays are still recessed & look & feel terrible. Any resale value is gone. I’m trying to get it resolved but had no reply from the rep. Fingers crossed it’ll get sorted as i just bought some locking tuners & maple pickup rings for it.
Oh nooo, I was thinking to buy that one next, but, It's been a bit of a disappointment over and over with the SE models... I don't know if I'm up for more ... Too bad about that man! Thanks for sharing!!
@@juancoronado I wouldn’t say it put me off getting another SE or more PRS. I have 2 silver sky’s but they’re limited editions so I was thinking of getting an SE so I can limit their use. The problem was I had to buy from the internet as I lived in Saudi Arabia at the time so I couldn’t inspect the guitar before I bought it. Probably like yourself. This piezo came from Thomann & it seemed to have missed every QC check. I was told SE’s went to the US before being sent out. If so then this guitar missed QC at Cor-tek, PRS & Thomann. That’s a lot of steps to miss. I asked for a new guitar but they said they’re repair it but it’s not a satisfactory job. You wouldn’t buy it from me second hand if you spotted the inlays. It’s worse than a £100 guitar. But if I can get it replaced then I’ll be happy & I’d happily get another PRS be it SE or core. But if you’re thinking of the piezo SE it’s a lovely guitar. Don’t let one bad one put you off.
Interesting video, it looks like with the demand.... they are fast-tracking these guitars and quality is degrading and that will ultimately hurt the brand in the long run. I'll hopefully get to try one in a store later in the summer to see for myself as I am interested in getting one this year.

i just received a PRS SE silver sky. Sending it back. First it had swirly scratches on the body next to the right side strap button. Second, the middle tone knob wobbled when turned- so 1 was closer to the body than when at 10- third, when i tried to restring it the Nut just slid right out after i took the strings off. Holy Shit. We are getting screwed by these prices, obviously they are making these for way less than what they are asking for them.

That's too bad. I'm not sure what's with the "quality control" they talk about on the recent SE inspections at the US facility. This is crazy!

Wooooooow....... You definitely got a DUD. USA QC should have caught this 100% - I hope when you called PRS and gave em' the serial# so they can double-check that QC person's work. Those frets are so unacceptable.
oh you know! Thank you for the comment, somehow the Rep and the store managed to help me and it's all good now. but I got to say I was so sad to see this with the PRS brand on it, I'm a huge fan of PRS and this was just embarrassing!
Sorry to hear this about the new guitar. I bought a new se 2408 and it immediately needed a pro setup. I was considering returning it but the retailer wasn't getting new ones until August-November.
What's up with SE quality these days?
Prices went up, quality went down.
I'm actually surprised because they "set them up" at the main factory ,,, I think some of this guitars would not leave that facility if they actually check them up.
Thanks for the review Juan. My SE needs the action lowered, other than that all was fine. Did you just lower your action at the saddles? I am not a guitar tech so always afraid to touch anything.
Oh don't be! It's actually hard to break something lol. Yes lower the saddles until the strings start buzzing a tad and then go back up as much as you want. There is always a bit of a compromise between low action and clarity and tere is no right or wrong just whatever you like. If you have more questions feel free to ask. Good luck!

Mine had size 10 strings and action was a little high. Finish was great. The neck feel was good. Tremolo was too tight. I’m still adjusting. It feels like a toy when I got it home but then it kinda growed on me . pick ups sound great. It’s just a wierd guitar to get used too is all I can say. Great video. Appreciate it. Subscribed.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you got a good one! I'm going to try 9s on mine to get the tone a bit brighter and sparkling, I recently found out that 10s are actually duller sounding, and some guitars benefit from thiner strings!
I totally agree , the 10 strings are a little dull sounding, I'm going for 9,s .or maybe lighter.
I bought the same colour model and funnily enough the exact same screw has been overtightened on the back plate on mine. The rest of the guitar is good so I didn't want to send it back. The issue was fixed with a bit of wood glue in the hole.
That's funny! Very cool. If it stays in tune and if the frets are somewhat polished you are good to go.
I'm glad that my horrendous silversky didn't represent most of them.
But I'm still apprehensive about another SE I was going to buy... that's sad because I really love PRS guitars.

Oh dear. I've been waiting to see these coming through in quantities here in the UK, in the aftermath of all the adoring (and sycophantic) reviews posted by retailers and others who got to play earlier releases free of charge. It may be that my suspicions are true, i.e. that once Cort began to knock them out at double speed to meet the large demand the quality control would suffer. It's made me think twice about buying one. Like a lot of people, I have to rely on mail order as I live in Cornwall and the nearest music store is tiny and doesn't hold much stock, and not guitars that I wish to try and buy. Still, we are protected by consumer legislation here in the UK and if I bought a 'nail' I could send it back. But the hassle...... Sorry you initially received a nail. I think when the retailer said it would take a year to get another he was hoping you'd accept the bad one and go away. Many thanks for the video!
Ohh no. I'm so sorry to be the reason to feel discouraged, I can't tell you if my guitar was a unique situation or happens a lot but it did and I felt I should share my experience with musicians out there even though I'm not a youtuber or reviewer. Hopefully one day you can get your hands in one before buying it just to make sure you like it.

@@juancoronado Surprised by this. I think they are rushing them out the factory.
Same thing with me.. Had to really lower the strings and the string saddles had to be replaced the screws were stripped in three of the saddles. Replacements cost me $93.00 Plus $75 for my guitar guy to replace and set up the guitar. I talked to the seller That I wont mention but not geting much response from them, (disapointed ) . said they would talk to PRS but no response it has been a month... I Have NEVER had to return a guitar before and I am getting it fixed. Hope I can bond with it after a bad experince ...Probally won"t use this Seller again and also not a PRS..
Oghhh, man. That's another terrible experience. I wonder what's going on with the quality control.
I believe Cort makes usually great instruments, but with the SE series, they are dropping the ball too much.
You never see something like this on the USA models
Wow I've come to expect better QC from PRS. I bought and sold dozens of PRS's, but rarely bought them brand new as a flipper. Moved about 5 yrs ago and stopped, too bad their QC has gone down so much. Even the early SEs we're damn good for the $
Definitely, SE products do not have the QC they deserve as part of PRS. The core series are without a doubt on the top 2 of absolute perfection next to musicman. They really raised the bar way above the classic brands we all still love, but learn to live with the flaws.
I really want to get one of those hollow body SE, but after this experience and the SE acoustic, I also had to return, I'm not in a rush anymore.
No production model guitar is perfect. My go tos are pre revised Parker niteflys. Even those I could pick apart issues...though not many. U want perfection have one custom built to your specs

Those tuning knobs really look cheap.
I wouldn't recommend buying a guitar site unseen for the couple of years. Because of supply chain issues manufacturers are playing catch up. Craftsmanship amd quality control will suffer.
absolutely ! it's not the best, but seems like that's where we are headed, it's going to be more difficult to buy certain products in stores soon, on-line is taking over!

Hahaha, I don't think he would be too worried since he would be using the 3k version of the guitar. But seriously, I just got my first squire, and it had CERO issues... and Cort is a very good factory, strandberg are made there and the quality is shockingly high. (Also, the price is shockingly high)
Just order it at a good guitar shop, who check thé guitar and set it up for you. Mine dragonfruit is 100% perfect, no flaws what so ever. Bought mine af thé fellowship of acoustics.
I'm not sure if only good guitar shops sell good guitars
is it normal to have bad guitars send out to any shop?
@@juancoronado Its not normal but Iff they dont check it personally then yes. Thomann as an example has made agreements with many guitar brands, that the factory setup is final. So they dont open the boxes, and on mass produced guitars there are rotten apples. I think iff they check it first in store, Its easier to contact PRS direct and they send it back to them. Only authorized dealers can open boxes though, iff PRS Lets them.

If you get your guitars through Sweetwater you won't have these issues. Sweetwater does professional setups on there instruments before shipping.
That's such a great service! I heard that the SE models are checked up and set up at the PRS Maryland facility, and somehow, we get these unfinished guitars anyway!
@@juancoronado Also the folks doing the setups are held responsible by Sweetwater if the buyer runs into issues.
This is not correct. They do an inspection. The setup comes from the factory. This is stated on their website. I bought mine from SW and it came as poorly setup and with many of the same problems mentioned in this video.

I bought a Zach Myers SE from Sweetwater that needed a lot of help . I took it my repair shop for a complete level and crowning, new nut, replaced the pups (my choice) pots and wiring. Now it plays great.
