this album is a masterpiece, literally no skips
I watched a few of her interviewes recently and she said about 60% of the album was written over the past 7 years. Alot of the songs were supposed to be apart of the albums her record label never released. Her original contract was for 4 albums and she sadly never relased any albums. I can only image how much material and songs she is sitting on. I cant wait for her to get the recognition she deserves. ! Also the little girl on the album is her little sister.
the production of “escapism” gave me such 2000s/timbaland type vibes so i looked up the producer, just to find out he’s 1) my age and 2) has done SOOOOOO many hit songs
So happy for Raye and love this album. The reason this is her debut album is because of horrible mistreatment from her old label and I’m so proud she’s finally being heard!!!
Rayes live performance at the Brits was the best ive ever seen absolutely unbelievable, react to it as its on youtube. She is styles on top of styles. Phenomenal artist.
Escapaism was really big on tiktok and the charts especially in Europe

I have some info for you about the album: The girl on the album cover is RAYE’s younger sister who is supposed to resemble younger RAYE.
RAYE’s old record label wouldn’t let her release her album because they didn’t think it would be successful (hence the lyric “I’ve waited seven years for this moment). So to be petty and to promote the release of her new album, she got an installation of the instruments on the album cover to be put in front of her old record label. 🤪💅
The way the beat shifts in "Hard Out Here" moves my entire body and soul

Thank you for this wonderful reaction to her amazing work. Now she's an independent artist, she's soaring, but she's earned it hard. I'm in the UK and didn't even know she had released this until I came across Escapism on RUclips then it sent me Ice Cream Man, for which I was not fully prepared. RAYE's Zach Sang interview is funny and honest; apparently she's touring with a full band despite punishing costs.
I saw her in Dublin, such a beautiful voice, beautiful band, amazing stage presence. Got me ugly crying to ice cream man and on my friends shoulders to the bops
Black Mascara is about someone she trusted & loved slipping something into her drink that ended up getting her addicted … also if u didn’t know Mandy is the powder version of crystal meth… 070 shake was the slow part of Escapism when she was saying out of reach out of touch too numb I don’t feel no way (that section)… Mauritius is a country in East Africa… also wanted to point out that in Hard Out Here she said u wasn’t trying u was sitting on diamonds 💎 (this album)

if you are interested in reacting, 070 shake has an awesome discography!! she actually does sing in escapism towards the end and i think the “doctor doctor” is her. but her albums are really creative and beautiful!
No, the doctor doctor is definitely sung by Raye. She even mentioned somewhere in an interview where she got asked why she doesn't sing in an American accent that some words like doctor just sound better in her native accent

Amazing reaction and analysis of lyrics and melodies. Check out her acoustic stuff from her previous EP and singles. I recommend secrets acoustic version where she sings in her garden when pandemic hit us. Also Natalie don't acoustic version with just her and a piano. She can turn any EMD track into a soulful jam, shes brilliant
