    It's crazy how she can mesh pop, hip-hop, r&b, jazz, blues and house in one album and still have a cohesive sound. She is crazy talented, so talented she can't be contained to one genre of music stylistic choice. In my opinion she is already one of the best artists to haver exist in the 21st century, and this only her debut album.... She's going to be a legend one day.

I love choreo and special effects, but I feel like we were getting caught up and that and I am so glad there are people like her who are helping us bring back these more intimate, awe-inspiring, back-to-the-roots performances! She is a force to be reckoned with for sure! Thank you for reacting and analyzing! ❤

      Same same! I think people forget that artists are leaders and executors of their visions. A competent artist will draw out all the best out of their bands, effects and backup singers to execute the vision of the live performance they want. I feel like this is what happened. Like the band arrangement of her songs feels heavily influenced by her visions.

    Do her Tiny Desk Concert next pls, you’d love it. It’s very Jazzy. There’s a part where she’s teaching the audience how to sing a part of a song and she gets a bit “vocal coachy” about it.😂

  • @GraciesMom
    @GraciesMom 9 месяцев назад +22

    I like the “twang” you talk about. Kelly Clarkson also has a distinctive twang. It makes singers sound real…like a voice imprint (instead of a fingerprint). For me, it adds individuality and is interesting. It tells me where you’re from. I love that.
    As for Raye, she is a prodigy-as someone else stated. She is so distinct, with a beautiful voice and the ability to be of and in the musics beat. And the lyrics feel so painfully true, which makes me sad. But that’s part of the point of the song. To transcend sad to feeling powerful and speaking the truth. She’s brilliant! And yes, the NPR Tiny Desk Concert!!!

    i cannot convey how amazing her full performance at the royal albert hall was. since you're from the UK, its free to stream on BBC1, honestly not even for you to analyze it or make a video about it but just because i think you'd like it. she takes the performance so deeply seriously & shes so genuine-its so powerful to watch. she released the live album on spotify & its wonderful but watching her preform on stage is an entirely different experience, its honestly healing to watch.

    i saw her perform live at radio one's big weekend a few weeks ago, her first time headlining the stage, and i have NEVER seen such an incredible performer. she is someone who i genuinely believe was born to be a star. she spoke a bit about 'ice cream man', saying she doesn't like performing it because it makes her confront feelings she kept buried for a long time, and that's exactly why she does it - because she refuses to stay silent about what happened any longer. her vocals live are absolute mind-blowing, i was lost for words in a way that does not happen often. she truly loves what shes doing now, and it radiated through the crowd. at one point she said she almost turned down the offer to be the headline act because she thought she wasnt ready skill-wise; i heard multiple people say something to the effect of "if *shes* not ready, then who is?" ive never heard a louder cheer from a festival audience (though that might be because i was making a lot of the noise myself lmaoo)

    The feeling of the ice cream truck coming down the street and know I’m going to get a ice cream of my choice and him saying I don’t have that flavor so here take this one instead it taste better. We all know what that means. Great songwriting. I just love her🎵🎼🎶🙌🏾

    When an artist like Raye comes along, we realize we could have been more judicious with our use of language like genius, legend, icon or generational talent because suddenly we lack a superlative grand enough to capture what we are witnessing and adequately characterize Raye’s greatest. I’ll just go with Raye is both the moment and the future. We’re all living in Raye’s world now 👸🏾
    ETA - I meant to say that I absolutely love this reaction. The part where you’re just laughing like what the F is even happening right now that was all of us I think. My brain almost doesn’t know how to understand that something could be so good and be real. It boggles a bit

    So i don't claim to know a thing about vocals but i do know that positioning is key for lung capacity. The lungs are longer and bigger at the back, and the upper most part is the most inflated. By bending forward she's in theory increasing capacity, so i wonder if this gives her that extra little bit of oomph at the end?

      Hey Kate! That is a really great observation.However, when we want to belt or sing in a louder or higher vocal quality, we don't actually want to have a large amount of breath under the sound. Usually, when singers bend forward, it is about the emotion. In this, what is quality?We actually want less air in order to keep the pressure under the vocal folds stable.
