Some basic troubleshooting determines where the problem is located and the chime is repaired.
Final testing shows the NuTone LA52 Chime working again
So happy I came across this video. Been trying to figure out what is wrong with this doorbell as it has never been installed, so i'm told. I have just sent in a repair request as I am in Toronto, Canada and would like to try and get this repaired for my mother. My grandmother and Aunt both have this doorbell and is functioning perfectly, hoping this one will too.

This was very helpful. I have a client with this door bell and we moved it from one home to another and didn't realize till i watched this video that the button needed the transistor once i installed that it worked great
THANK YOU! I think you just solved why the LA52 in the place we moved to stops playing as soon as you release the button! I'll have to grab a diode from my ham parts bin and see if that fixes the problem! I thought maybe it needed a lighted button but that wasn't it, it just clicked with the lighted button (thought maybe it used the power thru resistance of the light for a low power standby supply). All the symptoms you describe for missing diode perfectly match what mine is doing and I know the button has no diode.

My neighbor across the street had that exact model of that doorbell and I remember she had the temple slowed down as well as the pitch lowered because it was much easier for her to hear it on the lower pitch and I would like to hear what an LE 55 Nutone musical door chime sounds like so if you get one into the shop could you please

I diagnosed the same burned out resistor issue as the video shows before I saw this video. Great job on the video. Can you tell me what the values are for each please, and where to get them? I can't make out the values in the picture. It looks like blue-silver-black-gold (maybe even a white) but I need to be sure.

Hey, do you have a part # for that voltage regulator z103? I have the same unit with an almost identical issue with those burnt resistors.

The reason why I was asking if you could do a video of a LA 55 or an LEC 55 musical door chime I want to know what they sound like compared to the L8 52 and the LB 55 because my auntie had an LB 55 in New Mexico then unfortunately passed away and they sold that house that had that I'll be 55
Hi Michael: It would be difficult to hear the differences between the 2 Chimes in a Video - The 55 Series of Chimes have a fuller sound than the LA52 - Chris
Is there a website or store that replaces this model with new one? I've tried looking for someone in customer service or an email. I have one that a storm came thru and fried the circuit.

Where do I find the model number on my 1970's nutone door bell--it plays tunes and has a clock as well ? I need the wiring diagram to install it. Thank you---possibly will need repair--how do I contact you for this?
Hi Sid: I suspect that you have a NuTone LAC55 or LBC55 - There's a label on the inside of the door with the model number - You can also email me and send a picture of the Chime - Chris nscompany@msn.com
So today, i had the chime programmed to 1E Shave & A Haircut, i pushed the test button and it worked. Then I moved the levers to play 3D. That worked. Then put the levers back to 1E and now it doesn't work on any song on 1 & 2. 3-5 work just fine. When i have it on 1 or 2, i push the test button, and it clicks on and off-but no musical sound is heard. Any ideas on what could be happening here? Weird that the songs on 3-5 work just fine, but now 1-2 are not.
Hi Joe: I would suspect that either the slide switches are dirty/worn or the Microprocessor/firmware could be corrupted. i would try disconnecting power from the chime, then reconnecting it. If it's a Microprocessor glitch - this should clear it. - Chris

hello i have nutone model4406 the cd player do not work .on screen it shows that its playing, but cd does not move it all do you think bell its brocken?.
+nayomi gonzalez : It is unlikely that your door bell has anything to do with the CD player not working correctly in your 4406 intercom master station.
Depending on which version of the 4406 you have, the CD player may be able to be repaired.

Greetings from Canada...after adding the rectifier diode i still can get the song to play entirely. Is it because i am not using a nutone door bell button?

Hi Gennaro: No it's probably not the button. Take the diode off the back of the button - flip it around and put it back on the button - now it should work - Chris
Hi Chris...the electronic store in my area sold me a IN4004, saying it was the same as a IN4002....after flipping this diode still does not play the entire song, could using a replacement diode could be the problem?

Hi J Valdes: Any good on-line component like Mouser - Digikey - Newark will have them. You have to do more than just replace the resistors, which are really a causality of the other failing parts - Chris

I don't know how long I've had my door chime but I think I bought it in the 80s. I will pay you what you need to fix my door chime. I'm currently looking for your address and phone number. Are you still in business? I would so love to have my chimes fixed. I have a small business and the chimes have become part of the business. I sell the old Blum's Crunch Cake.
