I know this is a late reply, but maybe someone comes across this: After many years of study, I've found that the best workaround is to set up your workspace before it's time to study. Clear your desk. Open your book at the right page. Have pen and paper ready. Then go do whatever procrastinatory activity you feel like. It's ok. You've completed your task. Now it will be much easier to start studying, whenever the motivation is there!
Also very late answer but maybe try the pomodoro method. Basically do 25 minutes and then 5 minutes break and then repeat. For me it makes it easier to start because I'm only commiting to working for a short time. If you still find i difficult to start try doing even shorter time periods or just a very small task like writing 2 sentences or making 5 flashcards. Hope this helps (:

I've always been that student that is good enough, but never the best. I think its because I always do work with just enough effort, I'm going to try harder next semester! Thank you again!
How to study for 14 hours: - motivation : small successes leads to motivation, and that by breaking up tasks to smaller tasks and using time tables. - Avoiding procrastination : use time tables to have everything planned and eliminate choice . - flow : a state of complete focus and contentment. To reach it you should be relaxed doing your work. - switch between subjects and tasks to not get bored. - have a motivational routine.

Doing this everyday, for a while now, is making me achieve this flow state you just mentioned. Much love from Brazil, Ruby! :)
My problem is that the amount of work I want and feel I need to do is WAY more than I actually have time for, so I immediately feel like I’ve failed before I’ve even started. And like the fear of putting in a lot of effort just to fail anyway, for example it’s happened so often that I’ve tried so hard revising for a test and still got a D or a U, or attempted to have a productive day and completely wasted it, or was productive but one topic took far too long and I didn’t do everything I needed to. I just know I can’t do things so it makes me not even want to start.
First thing is you need to forgive yourself , be kind to yourself, have positive selftalk and encouragement but at the same time you should look at ur tasks as your small goals for today
this was surprisingly helpful, i tend to think of motivation as being almost a myth & as a resort you kinda just have to force yourself to do the thing. but then it becomes so unenjoyable, so i’ll try to follow your advice ❤️

honestly, listening to you, it feels like I'll be able to accomplish anything...thanks ! I'm huge perfectionist and I'm so afraid of failure that I procrastinate a lot...your video was just so comforting !
I used to procrastinate a lot in highschool, the way we were taught subjects would bore me and the pace would just stress me out, which would only fuel the procrastination. Post highschool, i am in the process of retaking the courses and i am actually motivated now to study and to learn because of two things: Now that I've been given the chance to do things in my own pace, it has given me the time to actually decide what career path I want to take. I have a clear goal that i can work towards. The second thing that has helped me a lot is to reinstill that childish curiosity I used to have when I started school. Actually start asking why again, and to actually search for answers. Lovely video, and good work!
I used to study for long and unhealthy periods like this, but I stopped because I became mindful of health. Started going to the gym, socialising more, being creative and other activities. Hi Ruby! Your videos are great, I always watch one before I start studying to get my motivation up. I would love for you to do a video on how you approach writing big essays. This makes me think of every article I've read about the effect smartphones have on our ability to focus. I remember reading something like this: "When I was younger, I was able to read thick books and not lose my concentration. Now I feel myself losing focus after [smaller time frame, in my mind something like barely 30 minutes]. Focus is trainable isn't it? I think you're able to focus for long periods of time because you're well-trained, reading quite a lot of books and being used to those relatively long study sessions. Nice video!❤
This reminds me of a time where I had one month to do a university project... but me being me I decided to do it in 2 days, or 32 hours of work, with just 2 hours between those 32 to eat and "sleep". At the end I felt I was going to die, I started hallucinating due to the lack of sleep and food, and even had a vision of me marrying certain pop singer (luckily, not Justin Bieber). At the end, I finished my project, but I do not recommend doing that to anyone. No homework is more important than your health.
What helpes me is to have the motivation of learning pretty. Writing slow and beautiful and clean, on a clean paper helps me think and understand more what i write, and treating everything i write down as suuuper important and precious, to make it pretty. I am happy if i sucess, you get in a flow, you THINK about more what you write and HOW your write. And when i finished some papers i can look at them and have the success-moment of looking at a pretty page i understand and did myself! And i keep all these papers and treat them really well, still! Helped me too :)
I've done 14 17 hours before and I swear every single thing you said was soooo true and relatable. Nowadays I'm struggling and I thought maybe this video would help but really what I ended up realising was that I can't study because nowadays I'm stressed and depressed... Well time to work on that :) Love ya Ruby ❤️ Your 14 hours study video was the first ever video I saw.
I needed this badly today...i wanted to complete one unit today...but i couldnt focus...now i will do it...thanks ruby...ur videos comes on time i need it
On "Switching subjects": I always put a timer on 1 hour in which I study for one specific subject and after that I decide if I want to continue with that subject (if I´m in a flow) or change it (if I get bored). Perfect for me because I often don´t know beforehand
as someone with adhd i found doing lists and breaking work up into sections has worked really well for me, i would recommend this for others but if you find it particularly tricky i sometimes find that rewarding yourself and doing small exercises in between can train yourself to associate studying with something positive.
I've been following you since a long time and you remind me of myself when I was younger, I think you said EVERYTHING about this topic. Good luck dear Ruby ! Lot of love from Morocco

My method: 1. Choose to write your final year 8,000-word maths dissertation on x squared plus y squared equals z squared. 2. Wait until 48 hours before the deadline to start. 3. Work from 7pm to 6am two nights in a row, with a huge jug of coffee and Bob Dylan CDs for company. 4. Hand it in 30 minutes before the deadline and get 45% for it (a pass!).
@@username-yn5yo you had to get 40% to pass it. My overall mark including exams was 50.5% which scraped a 2:2 degree in the UK. If I'd worked harder and got 59.5% average, it still would have got me the same degree.

I just appreciated your outfit and noticed how nice your skin and hair looked today! :) I admire that you are comfortable with your personality and passions, even though they deviate so much from the mainstream.
This video came clutch! Have been studying for my thesis. Thanks, Ruby!
Right now I have exactly one month until college, so I’m watching as many study tips videos as possible, so I’m prepared 😂😂 This video really helped, thank you aha 🥰
Hey Ruby, I'd really like a video of you reflecting on your 14-hour-study days! :)
I think planning is the most important thing in the world. It helps me focus a lot better because I know exactly what to do and for how long.
Hi Ruby! Your videos are great, I always watch one before I start studying to get my motivation up. I would love for you to do a video on how you approach writing big essays. How it goes from a loose draft to a plan, to a finished essay. What are your tips and tricks, and how do you make the essay feel less overwhelming?
Hi! I just wanted to say how much this video and all your other ones have helped me, you motivated me and inspired me to study and read so thank you!! I'm about to finish my first term of sixth form and I'm doing the IB diploma. Currently revising for my maths exam on Monday. xx
Thank you! I love this video because I struggle with focusing.
Thank you for making this video! I had a very difficult relationship with school in middle and high school and now that I’m in college simple things like finding motivation have become difficult for me. And it can be frustrating because in middle and high school I just didn’t care, but obviously since I chose to go to university I really care about my academics now, but it’s hard when I didn’t put my best foot forward in high school. It was especially difficult after taking a gap year in between as well. Your videos are really inspiring and helpful!
We want a video about the sawyer effect

Ruby, loved how descriptive you got in the video as well as in the description. Loved your content and your persona. Thanks for all the helpful tips. Will continue following your prescriptions.

I always have problems about procrastination and that’s why I spend more time in learning than it’s needed. This video helped me so much and from now I’ll try my best. Thank you, Ruby. ❤️✨
PLEASE make a video on the Sawyer effect - greatly needed and would be appreciated!! Btw, love your videos☺️x
I am an Indian and it really helped me and keep me motivated that if u can do then why not I
The way u explained that was amazing n thanku so much for bringing such a nice video.
Love from India🇮🇳
This video is perfect for this time my exams are coming soon and I needed this 🌸
This makes me think of every article I've read about the effect smartphones have on our ability to focus.
This is a really interesting point and something I hadn't really thought about before... thank you for that food for thought Kim x
I really want you to do more STUDY WITH ME videos.
I've done 14 17 hours before and I swear every single thing you said was soooo true and relatable.
Nowadays I'm struggling and I thought maybe this video would help but really what I ended up realising was that I can't study because nowadays I'm stressed and depressed... Well time to work on that :)
Love ya Ruby ❤️
Your 14 hours study video was the first ever video I saw.
Who elses loves her accent?
I needed this badly today...i wanted to complete one unit today...but i couldnt focus...now i will do it...thanks ruby...ur videos comes on time i need it
On "Switching subjects": I always put a timer on 1 hour in which I study for one specific subject and after that I decide if I want to continue with that subject (if I´m in a flow) or change it (if I get bored). Perfect for me because I often don´t know beforehand
Marguerite de Pompadour thats a good tip!
as someone with adhd i found doing lists and breaking work up into sections has worked really well for me, i would recommend this for others but if you find it particularly tricky i sometimes find that rewarding yourself and doing small exercises in between can train yourself to associate studying with something positive.
I don't even have enough concentration to get through this video :/
Isgt Ruby when you talk it's like a big sister giving advice to the spoiled one . Keep up with the good work ily
PLOT TWIST,SHE'S RELATED TO HERMIONE GRANGER.
Potterheads forever
Ruby, we all could learn a little something about your passion for knowledge. Great job on this video.
The pressure of a deadline helps a lot to concentrate :-D
I've been following you since a long time and you remind me of myself when I was younger, I think you said EVERYTHING about this topic. Good luck dear Ruby ! Lot of love from Morocco
Thank you ruby for this amazing and useful vidéo ! You always keep on motivating us
Happy birthday Ruby. I wish you all the best in your life. lots of love
I would love to see the reflection video. Keep it up Ruby I look up to you
RUBY GRANGER = SUPERWOMAN Thank you for inspiring the world through your life's journey and who you are. The world is inspiring and beautiful because you are in the world. I also love sharing random acts of kindness to people who inspire me
My method:
4. Hand it in 30 minutes before the deadline and get 45% for it (a pass!).
con_doorman how is 45% a pass lmao
@@username-yn5yo you had to get 40% to pass it. My overall mark including exams was 50.5% which scraped a 2:2 degree in the UK. If I'd worked harder and got 59.5% average, it still would have got me the same degree.
Hello Hermione! 😍 Great video, Ruby :)
It's great to hear someone talking about enjoying studying instead of just forcing and cramming!
I really want to appreciate your positive spirit😘😘😘
Great point about timetables and how they can help you procrastinate less - by taking away choice. Definitely going to start using those in scheduling my days to help me be more focused!
I read conversation instead of concentration and I was like "Is that even possible??"
I have upcoming exam so I really need to study for a longer period of time, and I needed this video right now. Thanks Ruby!
How bad is it that I got distracted while watching this?
i got distracted reading that comment
