I cooked this dish today. Sooooo yummy that it went off in a blink of eye and I had to cook again for the second time. My family and guests just loved it. I did not add wine or baking soda. I added cubed bell peppers after the chicken was almost cooked. I added fish sauce and oysters sauce. Thank you for this winderful recette. 👌👍😀
Dang that must really be good
Looks easy and great. But i don't think anyone says Asian At Home any better than Seonkyoung! I just can't help smile every time she says it.
This is pretty great, I calculated the nutritional values (Varies on brand, but should be same ballpark)
Total Values:
Calories: 308
Carbs: 16g
Fat: 3.5g
Protein: 64g
Sodium: 3,384
I split mine into 4 portions with 2 breasts for meal prepping, which
=
Calories: 77
Carbs: 4g
Fat: 1g (Actually less, but rounded up)
Protein: 16g
Sodium: 846
While it is a tad high in sodium it is still quite healthy, especially for the taste
I used Basmati rice with it, which made it even better.
how do you get that calculation? I use my fitness pal , 4oz of chicken raw is 110 calories so your numbers are way off!
1 lb of chicken is about 120g of protein, not sure you 64
Adam Joshi , what about sugars? tryna figure out if this is diabetic friendly.
I’m late but you’re missing the oil.
That is awesome. Thank you, alot a lot
WARNING: Chinese restaurants DO NOT put baking soda IN THEIR MARINADE! However, they do prep the meat by tenderising WITH baking soda first for 10-15 minutes then they rinse it off under cold water. This helps minimise the metallic taste and the sodium content then they proceed with the marination.
If you put baking soda in with the marinade, it changes the flavour of the dish completely.
Also, baking soda tenderising method ONLY WORKS with chunks of meat. Never attempt to tenderise grounded meat with baking soda, and do not tenderise the meat for too long. It becomes inedible!
You need to quit - seriously lol. This woman has her channel and people like you come along and attempt to appear only suggestive when your actually in need of attention so you surf and throw your 2 cents, literally 1 cent, and shows your lack of manners. God get your OWN channel and get your attention - such a keyboard lion I'm sure lol
zuma6820 wtf the guy wasnt even saying anything bad. i appreciate the tip especially since hes not the only one whos said the same thing.
creme - people are ALWAYS ready to attempt to be intellectual and give their little alpha suggestions over another persons space. It's "passively" rude - learn about people creme
Oh no zuma6820 you've unleashed the dreaded intellectual keyboard lions lol, I find them a bit redundant but comical at the same time. The key is moderation concerning baking soda, IF one is overly concerned with using it. It doesn't take a huge discussion really. I've cooked for decades, at times I use it in various amounts, other times I rinse. I don't sweat it, the taste is my concern. If you want to eat healthier and expect less baking soda to extend your healthy lives then rinse thoroughly.
Its just gross for me to think that baking soda still in my meat
People please baking soda warning! While is is the best and fastest meat tenderizer I've ever used, please use it first let the meat sit in it for fifteen minutes then wash it off before seasoning to your liking. You'll get the same results minus the massive sodium spike!
I didn't know it was bad to eat baking soda :/ At least I think that's what your post implies, right? Thanks for the tip, I'll try to remember it next time.
+91Muzzle Baking soda is fine it's just super high in sodium which can be bad for your health especially for those with high blood pressure and heart related illnesses. But yes do be cautious, heart disease and high blood pressure is no joke.😊
Remy N. thanks for the tip 😊
Remy N. can I use baking powder instead of baking Sosa and if I do will it do the same
I've never done that but I think the best way to do this is to marinate the meat with just the baking soda for fifteen minutes, give it a good rinse, and then season it up. By rinsing off the baking soda you keep the velvet texture but not all the excess sodium, that just goes down the drain, works every time.
This woman is the most precious thing! And what a chef she is! I love how she uses easy-to-find product brands from the supermarket.
If you can't take the salt, and this dish is pretty salty (baking soda, soy sauce, hoisin) then try velvetizing the meat with an egg white mixed into the cornstarch and chicken breast - leave out the baking soda. Personally, I think the baking soda gives the meat a weird rubbery texture. Egg white does the trick. Thanks, Seon! Great vid!
Hi, Seonkyoung! I made this dish tonight and it turned out REALLY well! I didn't have many of the ingredients on hand so I did a lot of substituting; May Ploy Sauce for Sambol Sauce, white onion for green onion, powdered ginger for fresh, but it was great! Thank you very much! 감사합니다!!!
I've made this recipe twice now and both times it came out perfect. My family loves this dish! They actually got excited when I told them I was making it for dinner tonight.
Love this recipe!, Only saw this video last week and already made it three times lol Tastes like a really good take-away but guilt free..Thank you!
I actually added 1/2 - 3/4 of an orange's zest to the sauce before adding to the chicken to cook for a stronger orange flavour
I was thinking of doing that but didn't. I will definitely be doing that. I want more orange flavor next time. I love it as is but sometimes I want a more orange kick.
Literally typed in orange chicken not fried and I found this video! Exactly what I was looking for!
I JUST MADE THIS AND IT LOOKS AMAZING SMELLS AMAZING AND THE TASTE IS OUTTA THIS WORLD! It's faaaannnntastic! Seonkyoung your chanel is my new fave!
+Payton DeLuca I'm so happy to hear that Payton DeLuca!! :-D 💕
This is an awesome recipe! Cooked twice already, and my husband just LOVES it served with jasmine white rice.
I’ve cooked this twice and I love it! I omitted ginger because my local small town grocery store didn’t have any. I’m cooking it for dinner tonight for Father’s Day.
I just made this but messed up on portion size. I doubled the sauce for the 1 pound of chicken (so I made a side dish of stir-fried veggies to make up for the shortfall in chicken). I also used the thickener (cornstarch/cornflour) in the sauce instead of on the chicken directly. But then I thinly sliced a seranno chilli and added it to the ginger and garlic b4 adding the chicken. OMG it was amazing. The chicken was sooo tender and the chilli added just a hint of heat to cut some of the sweetness of the orange in the sauce. LOVE this recipe Seonkyoung. Your recipes have been such an inspiration and happy/sunny note daily during this corona time. Lots of love from Canada.
I just made it... And it was AMAZING. Simple, fast and good! Really recommend this recipe. Thanks a lot for this video!
WOOTWOOT~!!
Seonkyoung Longest
@@SeonkyoungLongest I just made it too!! i followed the recipe and I was amazed with myself! thank you for the help!
OMG I LOVE ASIAN AT HOME
hi just want to say thank you.. I love orange chicken. I used to have orange chicken a lot when i was living in america but now i live in australia and we cant find orange chicken here... thanks to your video now i can make it my self at home in australia.. it brings back memories when i was living there.. so so so thank you
That baking soda method is honestly magical
It works soooo well
Thank you for this delicious and simple recipe! I'm allergic to wheat and am trying to avoid dairy, and your amazing recipes are a lifesaver!
soysauce has wheat in it. Might want to look out for that.
+Johng2476 Not all of them. I use GF soy sauce at home and avoid it in restaurants.
ok cool. Just trying to be helpful.
Hello everybody. I just finished my Orange Chcken and I have to tell you. OMG OMG OMG!!! IT IS SO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you very much for this recepie.
YASSSSSSS!!!
I made this yesterday and it was delicious! Even a relative who was upset that I hadn't picked the recipe I usually use (chicken in a sweet'n'sour sauce) loved it! I also made your "fried rice" recipe with jasmin rice, peas, edamame, carrots, a red bell pepper and lots of spring onions - delicious and it fit really well!
I used a little bit more than 2 pounds of chicken (1kg) and followed a tip on your website to use the juice of 2 oranges/pound (so 4 medium sized ones in total), then also added a Tbsp of honey. The sauce was good but it took a while to cook it down (plus a bit of corn flour), so I'd recommend not using too many oranges but instead maybe reducing the amount of sugar or replacing it with honey.
I just made this for my family. My kids are super picky trying new dishes. My wife and I told them too bad it's going to be good and you're going to try eating it or eat nothing! lol..... So I followed your recipe, used siracha chili sauce instead of the garlic chili sauce, used white cooking wine because we didn't have the rice wine, and added red pepper flakes= ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! My 10-year-old had 4 helpings and my 8 yr old had 3 helpings and they said It was the best thing they have ever eaten and want to know when I'm making it again! LOL...... To thank you for making such an easy to follow an easy recipe I have subscribed! Keep it up!!!
For everyone thinking about trying her recipe I recommend it 100% SOOOO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Made this recipe several times. Its almost as if u can't miss because it comes out STUPENDOUS every time! My compliments.
I made this last night and it was delicious. As usual I tripled the amount for the sauce since I love sauces. I add a splash of Orange Liqueur to notch it up a bit.
Which Orange Liqueur did you use?
@@catnip824 I added Grand Marnier, but seriously, just about ANY orange liqueur will do.
I've been making your food as long as I can remember. Maybe even 5 years now. I would buy your cookbook in a heartbeat because your recipes are foolproof. Everything is perfect. I have tried so many dishes. I made this for lunch today and It is so much better than in the restaurant. I used organic chicken. Didn't have wine so I used mezcal. Just wonderful!!! Please you need to publish cookbooks!!! We are waiting.
This taste AMAZING!! i love how tender the chicken is . It taste just like the restaurants chicken. The only problem i had was when i added the baking soda, soy sauce, and corn starch the chicken smelled like ammonia . It did not after i cooked it though it smelled great. :)
+TheGodApollosFarts Sounds like the baking soda was maybe a little too old. At least it came out right, though!
(ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ~『✧~*DELICIOUS*~✧』
Ohh, yeah, that definitely could be the case!
This looks so good! It reminds me of the orange chicken my mom cooks but she adds in orange zest too to bring out the orange flavour
Add the peel to the start in the chicken.longer you leave to soak the better the taste
Tried this recipe tonight and it was AMAZING!! The kids even came back for seconds later in the evening and asked when I would make it again! Definitely a new family favorite. Thank you for sharing.
Made this last night. Was going to use rice wine, but forgot to add. Flavors were good without. Used powdered ginger and frozen garlic cubes from trader joes instead of fresh.
Two thumbs up. Adding to my rotation of meals.
I just made this for lunch and I must say, OMG. THIS. IS. DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!
Its sweet, a little spicy and so amazing!
I made this for my husband and I, and it was amazing. Thank you for great recipes!
I have made this recipe many times, & love it so much.
If you don't have any oranges, surprisingly, it doesn't make a huge difference... In fact, when I was making it, I forgot about the oranges, ate it, & didn't even realize any difference while eating it.
I made this today and it stands up as everything she says it is. Super easy, healthy and delicious! Recommend you make slightly more sauce as it does reduce and if you plan on having leftovers which I did because I doubled the recipe the extra sauce helps to extend the dish to a rice or a vegetable etc. I experimented by adding manukau honey instead of sugar as it is less sweet and perhaps a bit more balanced👌🏻. I found that if you take a large hole’d-zester and zest in a bit of orange rind to the sauce it provides for a big whack of orange flavor and because you’re cooking it quickly it does not turn ugly brown or bitter.
You're amazing as well as your cooking. Thanks for inspiring me become a good home cook. Love it!
I enjoyed your demonstration. It is definitely a healthy version.
You have done it again!I just coooekd this for my family and friends. It was a hit. They said, "how did you learn how to cook such nice Asian dishes" and I said it's all "Asia at home RUclips chanel" :)
If you don't like this recipe then you don't like orange chicken. I have a small Chinese store down the road from my house so I do have quite a bit of the things that go into it. I substituted a few things and it still came out really great! Thank you for the baking soda idea that's a winner. And something I will never forget
I love your recipes because they are SO easy. Also, I like your accent. It's really cute.
Thank you for the baking soda tip! It works just like you said. Nice and tender chicken like I get from takeout. Awesome!!
ManSittinNext2DaMan
I love this recipe. To make it even more healthy I always add veggies - bell peppers, carrots, peas, green beans. just made it again - heavenly.
I have been watching this video since 2015, when I was a high schooler. But now it's 2020 and quarantine has made me remember this recipe. It's now a big favorite of my family's :D I'm always told to make it most nights. It's very delicious and not dry at all.
just made it :) and shopped at asian market for all ingredients thank you love.
what she said: "So we can cook it realy crispy on the bottom and we're going to flip it over". vs.
What the autogenerated subs said: "so we can cook relief christian the father and we're going to think it over!!" :D
Just made this tonight and I accidentally put rice vinegar in the chicken marinade, but it still turned out delicious! My whole family loved it so much :) I know this is an old video but thanks for sharing!
I cooked the above referenced recipe for tea today. Gosh , what a stupendous meal it was too ! All the ingredients for the recipe can be obtained at all good Tesco stores in the UK though, at £6.00 a bottle, I thought the Shaoshing wine a bit expensive ! Interestingly, the Basques of northern Spain have an orange chicken recipe too and that is available on RUclips as well. but I have not cooked it yet. I served my easy & healthy orange chicken on a bed of Jasmine rice cooked in unsalted water. It turned out to be a superb accompaniment for the recipe. I would recommend this to anyone who loves Asian meals as it is so simple to prepare and cook.
Her accent,
OMG
I love it
This is a silly question, but what brand is your red spatula you use in this video? Where can I get one? It's so perfect for stir frying.
Trang Lickliter I asked too - u can get it from Cost plus $5.99
I can’t believe how delicious, easy, fresh, and healthy this is! Thank you so much!
I've been searching for a good orange chicken recipe and this by far is the best ! I just watched this today & made it, it's amaaazing! & it's healthy lol.
the best recipe for orange chicken

I can not wait to try this thank you so much!!!!!!
This is the best recipe ever. Everytime i make it, it tastes perfect. You're a great cook Seonkyoung
Alex Lee Thank you Alex!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I am on a blustery windy-swept coast in NFLD Canada eating your Orange Chicken. I stand by doubling the sauce- but only because it is Sooooooo good. This recipe was made for rice. (That’s why I always double the sauce. And maybe add a fried egg on the side with some epic homemade chilli oil- like you make.)The point is- your easy and healthy recipe is EPIC. I thank you once again for it because I make it all of the time, even when I’m in an RV travelling thru NFLD. It’s savoury, sweet, spicy, and so satisfying. Enjoy your travels and thank you for being true to what makes you happy.
u remind me of maangchi! so happy and cute and bubbly😁 also the recipe looks soooo gd, so trying this out. more less oil, healthy recipes pls!!^^
same here! wondered if they're related, maybe her daughter.
Agree Kam!
I am currently face deep in a giant bowl of this delicious chicken. I added some peanuts and mini carrots in mine and it is damn good with some jasmine rice.
I cooked your recipe tonight . It was a big success . My wife and our teens loved it . I will repeat. Thanks !
I took your idea of stir frying this recipe and applied it to your general tso’s recipe, very happy with the results. I love your recipes!
Thank you so much for this recipe! I've made it several times and my family loves it. I cut a little of the garlic chili sauce, though, because it's a bit too spicy for the kiddies. Still a great dish!
+Renee Fraser I'm so happy to hear the Renee!! ❤️
You are amazing and a beautiful lady inside and out! I Love, Love, Love your recipes and how you fully explain everything! Please keep your delicious recipes coming!
Yvette Ruiz Thank you so much!❤️
Made this for my husband today and it's absolutely amazing, paired it with fried califlower rice and steamed broccoli 👍🏽
I learned the baking soda trick a few years ago but for soaking beef. It breaks down the fibers for nice tender meat. Works amazing!
+Seonkyoung Longest I have finally made this with two oranges!!! OMG it smelled and tasted tremendously fabulous, my bf and housemate were drugged upon one bite, they just couldn't stop eating it! :D Thank you for sharing such yummy recipe. ;) Oh btw, and you were really cute when you said "This smell... is.. FANNN...Tastic!!!" (Hand action) :P Lol

Just returned from a trip to Asia, loved the food and wanted to cook Asian food at home. Tried this recipe today and it was delicious! Thank you for sharing. Love your videos!
We made this tonight, but with only half a pound of chicken, same amount of sauce and a little bit more samba. Very delicious . Thank you

Thank you for creating this lovely recipe. I have checked other recipes but yours is healthier and much easier!
Will be making it tomorrow!
It's so good! instead of chili garlic oil I substituted sircaha and added broccoli, onions, and carrots came out perfect
can i use orange juice
+louie ortega you meant from a container? Ye, you can.
louie ortega

louie ortega yup I tried it one time since I didn't have oranges that day and it work just as fine 😊
Yes or no

YoreyC this kind of chubby is good tho 👌👌
this is a staple in my recipe book thankyou so much
She is just so adorable, she reminds me of my mom when I was a little girl! Coming from hawaii to michigan at 18, my mom did a lot of wok cooking, I loved it growing up!
I made this... and then I dropped it all on the floor..
brenda boothang really
Made this twice already and it turned out delicious! Even my picky father liked it which made me very happy. I can finally cook something that both he and my mother can enjoy. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe!
With chicken I've tried broiling, grilling, baking, and even choking. Very different results but all good. Great video.
I tried this today. I only used a little bit of sambal because im not really a fan of spicy but man.. its delicious. Thanks for the tip on using baking soda, the chicken is really moist and delicious.
I made this for lunch today. The flavor was really good. Thank you so much for sharing the recipe. The only thing - it took a lot longer for the sauce to reduce than I thought it would, so the chicken got a bit tough. I think next time I would either cook the chicken 3/4ths and remove it, add the sauce to the wok and let it reduce alone, then add the chicken back in ... OR, I would actually cook the sauce in a separate saucepan to reduce it so it's ready when I need to add it to the chicken.
Made this recipe tonight... my husband and son said that it tastes like a meal from a restaurant. Keep up the great recipes!
1 tblspn sugar as compared to quarter cup in other recipes! This recipe is light in more ways than one. I just ate it and my tummy is happy. I added orange zest and I can still taste the zing on my tongue 😊😋😊😋😊
Great recuoe. I use blood oranges (plus the zest) and have a side of now peas, bok choy and red bell I throw in with the chicken. Baking Soda was genius!
I’ve been making this dish for my family for five years. They love it. Thank you for this recipe.
I can't thank you enough for your reveal of 1/2 tsp baking soda for every 1lb of chicken. I've always had trouble choking down chicken breast because it's so dry.
I've also been using this orange chicken recipe kind of loosely. Quickly became a fan of it. ^_^
This looks delicious, yummmm
I can’t handle the thick batter they all use, I prefer the thin layer of cornflour. 🥰🥰
I made this for my boyfriend and his family. It was a total hit!
I'm Pilipino. but I love watching you cooking show...and love watching you and your family...you always have a lots of energy and happy family 🌹🍜🌯🥙❤️❤️❤️ thank you for cooking tv show ❤️💓
I just finished cooking it .. And my mother is enjoying it .. Thank you .. They already requesting it again
Thank You for inviting us into your home to learn great Asian food ❤️
Just made this dish and it is delicious, and the baking soda made the chicken sooo tender Im shook.
Seriously this is a fantastic recipe! I made it to test it out and my wife demanded I make it two days in a row as she loved it! You have a great channel, keep up the great work :-)
Boy was you right about the soda,This was the tenderest chicken I ever cooked,I added a bit of sesame oil and honey it turned out great yummy I will make this again!!!
OK, I'm gonna try this one this weekend. I love how easy it is to prepare, and simple ingredients. Wish me luck.
Used to eat orange chicken at a chinese restaurant back in my college days. Haven't eaten it since then and that was 15 years ago! Thanks for the recipe!!!
This was really good! I did not cook the chicken as shown, just put everything together into a sauce, let it thicken up, then put my (mostly) cooked chicken on top. Was a nice contrast of spicy & sweet
Wow! I made this today and am actually eating it now. It is so delicious. It has a low spice and perfect taste. I will be making this more than once in my household that's for sure! Thank you so much for posting this recipe! I have tried several recipes of yours and I love every single one of them. This though ... My favorite. My next dish I make will be bibimbap.
I made this today and it soooooo yuummnyyyy ... But sorry to say, I did with my taste, meant, I added more orange, less rice vinegar and little bit more soy souce ... You are amazing !
+Rina Jarvinen Awesome~!
I heard her saying "Halika Na" a filipino language which means "come on". Great! And I love your easy, delicious meals.
