Reinhard, thank you for your time sharing your DIY diffuser. The resulting images (from your other video) look amazing with such beautiful light. Even though your flash and lens length may be different than others, would you share your measurements and templates for the 3 pieces that make up your diffuser? I think I can measure my flash and lens dimensions and make adjustments to a template you have. I am new to macro photography and want to try making things such as this for the 1st time. Those cone shaped things that one puts around a small dogs neck. Silver on the inside...black on outside. Wrap around lens. Then figure away to attach a diffuser. White cloth cut in a circle....draw string maybe to tighten.
Also a possible solution, of course.

Nevermind I made one today just by look of this diffuser👍 Mine is out of thick paper and 4pieces. Now just need to add something on the front.
Thank you! The thing is depending on your flash also the other dimensions of the piece in front will change slightly.

What is the advantage of this over ‘a cone over lens’ type?
I think both types work great. An advantage of the type I use here coould be that all light from the speedlight is hitting the front surface and no light is lost to the sides, but you don't need a lot of power anyhow.

Welche Silberfolie/ Karton hastdu verwendet,im welchen Winkel hast den Karton geschnitten,ich habe auch einen Yognou56o III u.Makroobjektiv 100 mm.Vielleicht kannst du mir weiterhelfen.Finde die Idee super!
Ich habe diesen Karton unter "Spiegelkarton" in einem Künstlerbedarf-Laden gefunden. Ich weiß nicht genau, welchen Winkel du meinst, außerdem ist zB die linke Unterkante in zwei Richtungen schief. In meiner Vorlage gibt's fast keine rechten Winkel. ;) Wenn ich mehr Zeit hätte, würde ich mich erkundigen, wie man auf einer Webseite einen Shop einrichtet. Dann könnte ich diese Vorlage auf meiner Webseite zum runterladen anbieten (vielleicht für ein paar Euro). Freut mich, dass es dir gefällt! :)

Nice job, thanks for sharing. How much light do you lose? For example, with your flash, synchro at 1/250, f11, minimum focusing distance: what ISO setting do you need in order to take a well exposed image of a neutral subject?
Thank you for the feedback. This is a difficult question that no one can answer, because it depends. It depends on how much light you have available, do you shoot in the middle of the day, in bright sunlight or in the shades... When I take macro pictures during daylight and use the flash for some fill light, I usually shoot at ISO 100. For the flash output you have to experiment a bit. I suggest you to also try different shutter speeds and apertures to see the effect.

can you share the template with the same dimension as yours, I tried to do it on my own but it not came as yours.

The dimensions depend on the flash you want to use. For the yongnuo flash I use, I have chosen a cuboid of 72mm by 47,5mm that slides 53mm onto the flash. The rest of the dimensions depend on the size of the front surface you want to have and also the angle you want to use, different lenses have different length and might influence where you want to have the lower front edge. And the dimensions are also difficult to describe by text. Hope that helps.

I designed the diffuser myself and created the templates. If you use a different flash the templates will not fit.
