    It's always interesting to me when I hear people from the city talk about walking places. If I walked 30 minutes I would make it to the end of my road and still have nothing to show for it but a few road side flowers and the compliments from the cows 😂😂 I need to visit a big city some day.

      if we ordered them, they must be pretty good, my boss knows her stuff, she can spot bad felt without even touching it, she says no to sooo many dealers who come in trying to sell their hats,literally dozens of comp aides from all over the globe, they make special trips to NYC to visit whatever hat shops are here,and we say no to all of them..we rarely take on new companies, she’s really picky..Borsalino,Stetson,Biltmore,Rochè,Akubra..it doesn’t get any better than that, we only carry the best, and no China.. she’s crazy picky.

    Hi, Kevin. Thanks for this video. I just got my first Borsalino. It's called the Film. Are you acquainted with this hat? It's very nostalgic--a higher crown than, say, the Stetson Temple. I understand that it's now being sold for twice as much on the Borsalino website under the name Bogart. For $300 more you get a fancy box and sweatband. :-) Do you know if JJ's will be getting in any hats like this?
    How would you compare the Borsalinos with the Roche hats you sell under the JJ label?
    Keep up the good work! Love your videos.

    • @quadrogong1111
      @quadrogong1111  3 года назад +3

      The Film is a hat we sold for many,many years.. I’m.very familiar with it. I’ve sold and shaped hundreds of them.
      I don’t know exactly what a JJs ordered, for the first order in many years, we might have kept it simple, it’s so, so many thousands of dollars invested when we buy Borsalino and we haven’t had the brand since about 2015 when they stopped shipping. The highest series, “quality superior” has always been the best, best of the best, best performer, best w longevity,everything..in my opinion, nobody ever has made felt that equals it, not since the vintage days..Bach then, almost all the hats were like that,
      I haven’t seen the new batches since they had their bankruptcy, I’m assuming it’s the same old quality again, if the boss ordered them,though,
      They maintain have kept it simple,a few models,bro, sizes and colors.. No idea if the boss ordered Films again, I know we ordered the Antonio, which is a smaller 2” Sinatra type brim with a baggy crown, and the Classico,which is the signature hat,like a film with the standard, Classic more modern, Borsa crown.
      You’d have to email or Facebook them to find out, it’s 5 am now so I can’t do that,but I don’t really foresee us getting too fancy the init order after so many years. If you do the math, just ordering one style, in a few colors and all the sizes costs us so many thousands of dollars,if you add it up and start factoring in a few styles, and colors in each, and all the sizes.. it’s just an enormous investment. I’d assume if all goes well. The second time we order will be more extensive..

      Thanks! The Film is a very handsome fedora. I prefer it to the Stetson Temple/Pinnacle because of its higher, less tapered crown. What can I say, I simply look great in it! 😎 😉😛

    • @quadrogong1111
      @quadrogong1111  3 года назад +1

      A decent custom hat maker is more than that, more like $750 and up.
      And a lot of them buy the same, generic Czech felt from the same suppliers..I know where many haymakers get their felt from, there are few sources.
      The felt in these hats is far, far superior to any other felt I’ve seen in my twenty years working in the heart of the industry. Try doing all the stuff I just did to those hats with a $500 custom hat,
      just because something is “custom” that doesn’t make it good quality, it’s just made to order, and there are a Lot of ripoff hat sites on the web, I wouldn’t pay $400-500 for a random custom hatmaker myself, but I’ve also seen the. Ugh ares that pass for custom hats, I recently helped a viewer get a refund from a real predator, his hats were. $400-$1250 and no photos of the inside of the hats..when his hat arrived, there was no sweatband, the guy claimed his hat was art, and it took a month of negotiations to get a refund .
      Buying a fine hat is a blind item, no client knows whether the felt is good or absolute crap, they go on trust..and buying a well respected name that performs well is a sensible way to weed through all the ripoff artists online, be careful what you buy..
      I get mine free,so I don’t need spend a lot of cash on hats, but if I did..I’d go with a solid name.
      Thanks for your input,you make a very Good point though
      ..these hats were $350-375 back in 2016, which was way less than $550. It’s a big investment, yes.
      but These hats I demonstrated with are from 1994-2014, they’re holding up perfectly, and have a lot more mileage in them..that’s a lot of time..
      Thanks again for watching ☮️ kev

    Hey Kevin I'm looking into straw fedoras. What are the best affordable brands and do you know of any that have that sharp flange and a little tighter pinch that I like? I'm definitely going to be watching your videos on straw types and that new Borsellino line. Side note - I showed my mom your review on the Stetsonian. You were talking about how only certain people can pull it off because it looks massive. She said it looked great on you!

I really like the bleached Borsalino and Tesi panamas, but I like. Lot of them, the inexpensive stuff from Capas Headwear NYC is nice, too.. classical,affordable and has all the cool protective features..they’re always nice,
      like The Bogart ,The Classic Panama, The Pioneer.. But most of the newest stuff has yet to be revealed yet

    Hey Kevin, I so want the black Borsalino model hat you have.
    What is the model of the black Borsalino?
    Will it be one of the Borsalino hats coming in the fall at the shop?
    Do the Superior shapeable hats need to be ordered opened crowned, and not steamed, in order to shape it to any shape at home?
    The ones that are coming to the shop this fall, are any of them able to be shaped by hand like yours?
    I'm hoping for a model of the Superior shapeable hats to come with a two inch brim.

    • @quadrogong1111
      @quadrogong1111  3 года назад +1

      They ordered a 2" brim,
      (the Antonio),yes..
      I own four of 2” brims,
      My black one is an anello. I don’t know if we ordered the Angelo, but we definitely ordered the Antonio,
      Which is like my beige and grey 2” brim.
      The Antonio is also a 2" brim with very subtle differences, they’re practically the same, it’s just slightly more nostalgic than the Annello.
      The Antonio has a deeper,wider crown and a wider ribbon band than the anello, and the edge is slightly different.
      But they’re both basically 2” brim borsalinos, almost the same.
      If we ordered the Antonio, I doubt we would get the anello.
      I like the Antonio better than the anello, actually. The deeper crown allows for more custom shaping, the anello doesn’t take the teardrop and porkpie as well.
      They come shaped just like a Stetson, or anything other brand...not open crown or anything like that.
      They're just way softer,insanely good quality, and they hold the shape very well.
      Are they like mine?..
      is yet to be seen. Only the boss has seen the samples, I have not.. but they were good enough for us to order many,many thousands of dollars worth of stock. .
      I'm assuming they feel the same as the old ones,
      the owner can find a flaw in a hat in the first five seconds she looks at it,if they were sun-par, I think we would have stuck w just the straws. Just the fact that we invested in them tells me they were nice,
      I haven't seen the new ones yet. The boss invested many thousands of dollars in them, we waited four years before we thought the time was right. I'd assume they are pretty amazing if we are carrying them again,but I haven't seen them yet. So I cannot truly comment on the quality of the new ones, just my older ones..

      @quadrogong1111  3 года назад +1

      That’s an old model, called the Anello. We are getting them in again but with a slightly different edge, a more vintage edge.. called the Antonio.
      They will be in stock this autumn again, maybe not the anello, but the main difference is anello has a raw edge and the Antonio has a welted edge, the Antonio is my oldest hat I own, they are maybe the longest lasting hats I know of,near perfect quality, mine are well over twenty years old, I own three and they all are in fine shape.

      Don't walk under the awnings and roofs either,that's where the dirty water drops off of,
      Just relax,walk home w the brim flipped up, invert it to dry, away from heat..

    I am confused. This vid is two years old yet about two years ago you did a video talking about how not so good Borsalino became because of their financial issues. "Lower quality and raised prices", is what you said, also two years ago. Which is it?? Low quality high prices or the best going, it can't be both at the same time.
    I wrote off their hats because you were not the only one saying Borsalino started putting out lower quality felts at higher prices, depending on a name made in better times.
    The stuff is too expensive to take chances with it. For the first time in my life I can afford a six hundred dollar hat if I want it. But if you spend that much and the hat is a dud, you will never quit hating and thinking badly of that company. High prices do not necessarily mean high quality, especially in America and Canada.
    I'm not complaining at you, I am just a bit confused.

    • @quadrogong1111

      They had a bankruptcy Im 2017. and soon after a couple of years,they started producing hats again. We were not happy with the quality of the hats being produced right after the bankruptcy. The hats that I wear,and the ones I am referencing here are pre-bancruptcy hats. Like my Kelly green hats. Those are pre-2017. I consider those hats to be the finest in the world.
      We were shown some more hats in 2019 which I was told looked better. I wasn’t there, but if the boss felt they were good enough to order, she must have been satisfied. Those hats never arrived, the pandemic hit and nobody was shipping. We did receive some straw panamas from Borsalino in 2020, (but those have always been consistent, they’re made by another Italian brand,”Tesi” for Borsalino.)
      Anything made pre 2017 that is “quality superior” is the top stuff, the really high end,magical stuff.. as far as newer Borsalino felts, I cannot comment on them really..I’ve seen 2 or 3 that were okay, pretty high grade, but if you find anything older, w “quality superior” written inside on silk lining. That’s the gorgeous stuff. Right now, I’d personally rather go with either Selentino from Europe, Roché from Spain, Akubra from Australia, Magill from Canada.. these are really good brands that won’t cost crazy cash, they’re high end. But reasonable. If I were to buy hats for my own shop? Those are the brands I would carry..they’re consistent quality every time..

      Esch one you mentioned is on my radar now. A Magill Ontario is on the list due to the thick felt. I had one of their straw hats that lasted over twenty years. Roche, selentino, and Akubra are one the list for the main hat this fall. I will also be getting a travel version from Stetson or another country to use for travel and bad weather days.
      One issue for many is that the Borsalino is not sold in every shop so it will probably be an on line purchase. That means you can't actually see the colour in proper light or feel the felt. The only hat store in the city I live in does not sell Borsalino hats.
      Thanks for the most useful reply. I get it that your video talking about the problems with Borsalino was made before they sent some better hats after recovering from the bankruptcy. Selentino and Roche both make some fine hats.
